*To minimize the need for more complex treatment*To help eliminate the need for extractions in thefuture *To evaluate for irregular growth patterns. But remember, any age is the right time to improveyour smile!

Enjoying Halloween withBraces
Halloween can sometimesmeanbigtroublefortrick-or-treaterswhowearbraces.
We want to remind ourpatients to follow thesespecial guidelines to keeptheir keeping braces intactwhile enjoying theirHalloween treats!
What to Avoid and What toLook For:
All hard candiesAll chewy candiesCaramelNutsLicoriceTaffyJelly beansHard pretzelsBubblegumPopcorn (includingunpopped kernels)Taco chipsIce
Of course, Halloweendoes not have to becompletely treat-less.Braces-friendlyHalloween treats canhelp orthodonticpatients enjoy the“spook-ta-cular”holiday. For example, plain chocolatecandy is okay, provided theorthodontic patientremembers to brushand floss afterwards.Bobbing for applesas well as caramelapples are notrecommended fororthodontic patients. However, patientscan enjoy thinlysliced apples, dippedin yogurt or creamychocolate sauce.
We recommendlooking for foods thatare soft, such as softchocolate that canmelt in one’s mouthor peanut buttercups. Overall, candies that aren’tsticky, chewy, hardor crunchy aregenerally acceptable
