Ossia Corporate Backgrounder Company: Ossia is challenging people's core assumptions about what is possible with wireless
power. Ossia's flagship product, Cota, redefines wireless power by safely delivering remote, targeted energy to devices as far away as 30 feet. Built on Ossia's patented smart antenna technology, Cota automatically keeps multiple devices charged without any user intervention, enabling an efficient and truly wire-‐free, powered-‐up world, that is always on and always connected. Headquartered in Redmond, Washington, Ossia operated in stealth since its founding in 2008, and publicly launched at TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco 2013.
Market: Only two years ago, industry analysts predicted that wireless charging systems would become a global market of approximately $4.5 billion by the end of 2014. Today, largely due to the lack of a clear industry standard, analysts have grown concerned this important new capability will remain a “niche category” for some time. Still, analysts are making optimistic predictions, ranging from IMS Research estimating wireless charging will be worth $4.5B by 2016 to Pike Research predicting wireless power products will represent a $15B market by 2020.
Technology: Everyday people use myriad devices – from smartphones, to remote controls, to electric toothbrushes and more. Ossia envisions a world where all of these battery-‐ powered devices never require being plugged into the wall or tethered to a pad to recharge, and batteries won’t ever need to be replaced. With Cota, Ossia is making its vision a reality for consumers all over the world. Cota is real wireless power.
The Cota technology uses a Wi-‐Fi-‐like signal and is designed to charge many devices simultaneously, regardless of whether a device is stationary or moving. At an effective charging radius of 30 feet, a single Cota charging station can charge the battery-‐operated devices in every room of an average home or office suite.
Under license from Ossia, consumer electronics OEMs and ODMs will be able to include Cota receivers in new products and will have the opportunity to build their own branded Cota transmitters. Existing battery-‐powered devices will be able to be retrofitted with Cota receivers. In addition, some construction and energy businesses are already exploring non-‐consumer electronics applications for Cota-‐based wire-‐free power.
