Some of our previous Graduates

Emma MooreRuminant Technical SupportMy graduate role within the Devenish ruminant team commenced in November 2016, following graduation from Harper Adams University in September 2016 with a first class honours degree in Bioveterinary Science. Being from a farming background in Northern Ireland, I have always wanted my career to be within the agricultural industry. As such, my association with Devenish began during my university placement year in July 2014. I was fortunate to work as part of both the Irish ruminant research team and the GB ruminant sales team within Devenish.

Having rejoined after completion of my degree, my role is Ruminant Technical Support, based in GB. During the first 6 months of my graduate position my role was fluid, allowing me to expand my knowledge of each part of the ruminant business. I have been fortunate to have already been given opportunities to further my own personal development and learning, for example a week-long Cow Signals training course in Holland in December 2016 as a result of which I am now a Certified Master. My experience of Devenish has so far been a very positive one – being a progressive company, employees are encouraged to further their own learning and development and follow their interests and passions.

Alan BristowHead of Group Quality & TechnicalHaving graduated from Queens University Belfast with a degree in Agricultural Economics and Management, my journey with Devenish started in December 1999, as the technical/production co-ordinator with manufacturing responsibilities. As the company grew in the early 2000s there were many opportunities to gain experience in other areas of the business. I spent varying periods of time working in the formulations department, setting up the Health and Safety system and working in the sales division.

In 2009 I became part of the senior management team and became more involved in industry groups in Northern Ireland and in Great Britain. In more recent years I have spent a lot of time travelling to GB assisting with the acquisitions of Hi-Peak and A-One and establishing our premix facility in Widnes and only last year was appointed Head of Group Quality and Technical.

Devenish is an excellent company to work for as they are so ambitious, seeking to be market leaders both locally and internationally, creating opportunities for their staff. You are encouraged to work with autonomy and if you bring a new idea forward they are always willing to listen and support you. Devenish is an expanding company and there are always opportunities to further your career if you have the ambition and show the necessary qualities.

Emma McDonaldFood Innovation Manager

I began my career with Devenish in August 2005 following my graduation with BSc (Hons) in Food Science at Queens University, Belfast. When I initially discovered that Devenish was an animal feed company I thought it wasn’t for me, but as I found out more about the company I thought it was worth applying for the interview experience if nothing else! It was during the interview stage that I got a real sense of camaraderie, conviviality and togetherness from the team at Devenish and realised it was a workplace and environment I would really like to be a part of.

Initially my career aspirations were to be responsible for the formulations department and to manage the team and have since moved jobs…and departments…and offices in the last few years and it has worked out well for me. I am now part of the Food Innovation team and I’m doing a totally different type of work to my previous position, going back to my Food Science background. I have a lot of autonomy over my work; I’ve been given my areas of research, but I’m free, within reason, to pursue leads as I feel appropriate. My team have a wealth of knowledge in different areas and so there is always someone to help guide me in areas where I’m not as strong.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Devenish so far, I truly feel that Devenish has allowed me to develop my career in a very successful way. The people are what make Devenish great for me, I’ve made lifelong friends here and genuinely enjoy coming into work and seeing everyone. I feel lucky to be so happy in my work.

Vincent TennantyPoultry GraduateI commenced work with Devenish in May 2015 after my graduation from University College Dublin with a degree in Animal and Crop Production. I entered the company as a Poultry Trainee and in the initial period of my role, I was actively involved in our Poultry Performance House in Northern Ireland and familiarising myself with customers, in house products and systems, while all the time learning from the experienced Poultry Nutritionists around me.

I joined Devenish as I believe it to be a unique company with plenty of opportunity to learn and progress. I also liked the fact that Devenish are linked to human health; we create healthy food for humans via animal premix.

There is a brilliant group of staff in Devenish and I find it fascinating to be working so closely with colleagues from different backgrounds. I’ve learned something from everyone I’ve met so far. You have the opportunity to really make the work your own.

Devenish has also given me the opportunity to upskill via various in house courses, attending important industry conferences and by sponsoring me to complete my Masters in Applied Poultry Science in SRUC, Ayr.
