ISRAEL’S ATTITUDE TOWARDS EDUCATION:

Education in Israel is a precious legacy. Following the tradition of past generations, education continues to be a fundamental value and is recognized as the key to the future. The educational system aims to prepare children to become responsible members of a democratic, pluralistic society in which people from different ethnic, religious, cultural and political backgrounds coexist. It is based on Jewish values, love of the land, and the principles of liberty and tolerance. It seeks to impart a high level of knowledge, with an emphasis on scientific and technological skills essential for the country's continued development.

IN BOTH MOVIES…In Strangers No More, many came from different countries and backgrounds but felt welcomed and fit in. In Waiting for Superman, the students are waiting for someone to save them because of the lottery. Both students in each movie long to want to fit in and make something out of their lives with the help of education.

NOA’S CHILDREN'S’ EXPERIENCE IN AMERICAMy family and I live in the US btw the yrs 2005-2010.When we arrive my kids were 2 and 8 yrs old. They studied in private kindergartens and then in Public Schools.Presented is an interview I made with my own kids: Note: We came back to Israel 3 yrs ago- therefore some of their memories might not be accurate, yet this is their own vision/experience.Question: What are the differences between Israel and US schools??

NOA’S CHILDREN'S’ EXPERIENCE IN AMERICA

ISRAEL Cafeteria only in High school, Expensive rates. Most kids bring food from home. Many trips and outside activitiesAfter school – most times having free play dates with friends. Sometimes would go to friend right after school.Enrichments mostly during after school program. For cost for parents.Academic assistance for returning citizens- limited. 3-5 hours a week.Students have some facilitation on HW and tests.

MISSOURI Cafeteria in all schools. School provides food in inexpensive price. Many kids eat warm food at school. My kids miss that…. Not as much field trips.Planned play dates. Enrichments as part of the curriculum. The music program which my kids had in school was much more professional than in Israel. No cost for parents.ESOL program- allows kids their own pace of progress. Every day classes. Great and caring teachers and curriculum.Much assistance in classes and significant facilitations on HW and tests. In addition- They educate students for tolerance, acceptance, help, caring, enjoying the differences between them. In my kids school there were students from many different countries. Participating in their activities and program was a blast.

SUMMER GUESTS  By: Naomi Shamer In our courtyard in the shade of olive trees usually many guests come for the summer

And each one of them has their own language and their own way to say hello. (x2)
