Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, All throughout our lives, we’ve shared meals with family members, whether that be daily meals of parents together with their children (and anyone else living in the same house, like grandparents, etc.) or a special get together with extended family and friends. Usually, at work, we may have lunch with coworkers and at other times, we may be out with friends. I must say, that after nearly 3 months of self quarantining and restaurants being closed due to Covid-19, it was refreshing to be out with a close priest friend of mine this past week at a restaurant’s outside deck. It seemed almost normal again, even though numbers, masked and social distancing were still part of the picture! One of the main responses I received from many of you when I did my little “roving reverend reporter” interviews before we came back to Mass last weekend was your longing to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Another response was to be back together with your church family again. It was awesome to be back with many of you for the first time last weekend, and not have to look at empty pews imagining you in your favorite pews, but actually seeing you in person, although in limited numbers, and with masks on and maybe you couldn’t quite sit in your favorite spot, but these are minor things when we look at how wonderful it was to be together again, physically in the House of the Lord, our home and offer praise and worship to our God at Mass. And how wonderful it was to see our First Communion Children receive Jesus for the first time last Saturday morning. It was so appropriate that they be the first to receive the Lord as we had our first Mass together in the reopening of our church. First, to see them and their families in the pews actually was for me a little emotional: we are meant for Communion with God and with one another. And to see the joy on their faces as they received our Lord reminded me of the joy we should all have when receiving the Eucharist, which I saw in you in many profound ways, as you received the Lord for the first time in almost 3 months. It was very moving for me to behold! Today, we focus on the great Gift of the Eucharist, as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, or Corpus Christi Sunday. At the Eucharist, not only do we receive our Lord and celebrate together with people that we only know very well or are related to, but with our neighbors and even with some who we do not know, or at least know well. The point is that we never celebrate and consume the Eucharist alone: no matter how large or small the size of the congregation, we are one of many in the Body of Christ, the Church. Both of the responses to my interview question about what people looked forward to most about coming back to church-receiving Our Lord in the Eucharist and being together again-reflect the great Mystery of what we celebrate in the Sacred Liturgy of the Mass: We receive the Body of Christ, as part of the Body of Christ. We received the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ but as St. Paul says in the second reading from 1st Corinthians, we not only participate in the Bread, the Body of Christ and the Cup, the Blood of Christ, but in so doing we are formed into “one loaf.” As we are fed and nourished with the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, we, the Body of Christ, the Church, are called to gather more “grains” for the Loaf, to use an ancient image of the Church Fathers, as we participate in Jesus Mission each day to preach the Good News of the Gospel and invite others to walk with Christ in the Church. To quote what St. John Paul once wrote in his encyclical, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, (The Church from the Eucharist), “the Eucharist builds the Church.”(EE, 2).

"Do to others as you would like them to do to you."- Luke 6:31 Hip, hip, hooray! We finally got to say a proper "have a great summer" to our preschoolers this past Thursday. Our physically distance celebration al-lowed us to be social and safe. Each class had a special time to pick up their belongings, portfolios, report cards, and certificates as they had a chance to see their teachers and friends. A fun time was had by all. We are accepting registrations for the coming school year. You can find forms on our website at olcelc.com. We are still collecting for our Race for Education fundraiser that we were unable to do at the end of our school year. All donations will be used to defray the cost of daily expenses and for outside/playground enhancements or improvements. Every little bit makes a big difference. Please consider donating. Thank you.

We will follow our usual Mass schedule. Saturdays-5:00 pm OLC

Sundays-8:00 am OLC 9:30 am St. Malachi 11:00 am SPC

For now, we will continue to live stream the 8:00 am Mass on Sundays, that will be available for later viewing on our Facebook Page and YouTube channel.

Rest In Peace

Please pray for the soul of Lillian Helm. Pray for all the souls of the faithful departed. May they rest in peace in the kingdom of God.

As we rejoice in coming back together to celebrate and receive the Body of Christ in the Eucharist together as the Body of Christ, the Church, may we always be encouraged and joyful in remembering that God continues to provide for us as He did of old for the Israelites in the desert (see first reading, Deut. 8:2-3, 14b-16b) No more giving us Manna, He gives us the Bread from Heaven, His Son, Jesus. No more giving us water from the rock, we are quenched with the “rock” who is Christ (see 1 Cor. 10:4). In Jesus, we have Food for the Journey, a journey to eternal life which is Jesus Himself, and is at once the origin and destiny of our life. May we rejoice together in the Lord as we journey, nourished and fortified by the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus, our Redeemer! In Christ’s Peace, Fr. O’Neill
