6 Home of Peace, Love, and Welcome. March 17, 2019

Beloved, please, join me to welcome our Bishop, His Excellency, Most Reverend John Noonan on His Pastoral Visit to Our Lady of Grace to

administer the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend of March 16, 2019. Hearty congratulations to our confirmandi and their families and teachers! Continuing our Lenten discipline, last week, Jesus showed the battle ground for Spiritual Warfare is in our thoughts, feelings and desires. He underlined the place of the Scripture (Bible) in overcoming temptations (cf. Matt 13:19). Each time He was tempted, He stood on the Word of God, saying, “IT IS WRITTEN…” It is written we should not display power arbitrarily;

not use God’s power or name in vain. We should prioritize spiritual values, hunger more for deeper relationship with God and for the Eucharist (cf. John 6:27). We should desire power and glory from God alone and never make the mistake of dabbling into the world of occult, sorcerers, soothsayers and diviners. Please, commit to Bible Study. This week, through His transfiguration, Christ confirms our faith in the reality of heaven and the Communion of the Saints – Moses, Elijah and others in glory (cf. Matt 22:31-32). There is more to reality than the ordinary political, social, cultural and ideological squabbles. Ultimately, our citizenship is in heaven. Like Abraham, let us place absolute faith in God; He will fulfill His promises at the time He deems fit. Please, be convinced of your Faith (cf. 1Tim 3:15); do not let anyone use the Bible manipulatively to pervert the teaching of the Church on faith and morals. Refuse to be “tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine” (Eph 4:14). BIBLE VERSE OF THE WEEK: “Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence (1Peter 3:15). DATES TO REMEMBER: Weekday Parish Lenten Retreat: April 1-3, 2019, 7:00 – 8:30PM; Parish Lenten Penitential Service and Confession: April 2 at 7:00PM; and Weekend Parish Lenten Retreat (English & Spanish): April 6, 8:30AM-3:00PM. OUR CATHOLIC APPEAL 2019. Many thanks to those who have made their pledges. If you have not, please, kindly collect and fill out an Appeal envelope. We need you!!! And may God replenish you abundantly. Amen. God bless.

STAND FIRM IN THE LORD It is not hard to imagine, in this age of wars, evil groups bent on the destruction of humanity, and political follies, that the words of Saint Paul were so accurate, even for his time. It seems that the world never changes. Paul says, “Many . . . conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is their destruction . . . Their minds are occupied with earthly things” (Philippians 3:18, 19). The result is the destruction of innocent people and of the Earth itself. But Paul says to the Philippians, “our citi-zenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (3:20). He will “change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body” (3:21). Note that he says “body” rather than “bodies.” He is talking about the whole community of believers, who, following the example of Jesus and of Paul, will come into the glory of God. So “stand firm in the Lord” (4:1). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

(4:1). Copyright © J.
