TODAY’S READINGS First Reading - Moses said, “Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!” (Numbers 11:25-29). Psalm - The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart (Psalm 19). Second Reading - Come now, you rich. The wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud (James 5:1-6). Gospel - Whoever is not against us is for us (Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48).
The gift of the Spirit is given freely, not according to human expectations, but according to the generosity of God. Joshua wants Moses to stop Eldad and Medad
from prophesying in the camp, when they were not with the others as the spirit was bestowed on them. Moses, so close to God’s mind in the matter, wishes everyone could possess the spirit of God and proclaim it to the nations. Psalm 19 celebrates the perfection of God’s law, and how it brings joy and delight. It is better than the finest gold or the sweetest honey. Moreover, God gives the wisdom of the prophets to everyone, especially the simple and lowly ones, even to children. It is the “little ones” who proclaim the wonder of God to all. Copyright © J. S. Knights of Columbus Council 6168 will resume Sunday evening dances from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. October 3 and continue every week in the Knights of Columbus Hall along Norvell Bryant Highway (CR
486) in Lecanto. The Knights welcome couples, singles and
groups to join in the dancing. Music will be by Solid Gold on the first and
third Sundays each month, and by Donna on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.
The admission charge is $8 per person. The proceeds will go to Knights of Columbus Council 6168 which in turn distributes money to area charities.

They will Know We are Christians
“Jesus replied, ‘"Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me.’” – Mark 9:39
“They will know we are Christians by our love” is a well-known song lyric in many church hymnals. It says that our compassionate and charitable actions toward others, regardless of the person’s background or status, will be a witness that we are a follower of Jesus Christ. It is also true that a person can do a virtuous and caring act for someone else, and yet not be Christian. In Mark’s Gospel, chapter 9, we find the disciples telling Jesus that someone was driving out demons in His name who was not a follower of His. Our Lord tells them not to condemn the individual for doing something good for another in His name.
As Christians, we should know right from wrong. A well-formed conscience should tell us when we commit a sin. Many times, out of weakness or anger, we do things that we later regret. We know better, yet that sin can become habitual to the point where we are numb to it and no longer realize it’s a sin.
Jesus warns us of this danger, especially if we are guiding others down a sinful path. He uses stark and extreme examples to drive home this point. If our hand causes us to sin, we should cut it off. If our eyes cause us to sin, pluck them out. The point is to remove from our lives whatever may lead us to sin. Jesus uses these radical examples to teach us the gravity of sin. What we lose on earth is nothing compared to what we may lose for eternity. Have the courage to avoid near occasions of sin—gluttony, foul language, anger, greed, lust, stealing and more. In times of weakness, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in ways that bring out the best in you so that our faith will be shown by our actions.

Fellow parishioners, students and families are invited to stand for Respect for Life on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 2:00-3:00 pm. This Life Chain will be held at the corner of Roosevelt Blvd. and Hwy. 491(Lecanto Hwy) near Dollar General for one hour. Signs will be provided. Please bring your lawn chair if you need to sit. Water will be provided. You can hold a sign or just stand quietly in witness for the unborn. The Rosary will be prayed at the Grotto following the Life Chain. Let us show our support for life.
An Opportunity to Grow
Two new Adult Education Group are forming. Join us from 9:45-11:15 AM on Mondays or on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 PM.
Both will meet weekly in the Conference room in the PLC. Choose the time best for you. Drop in when you can. All parishioners are welcome to come and explore the Sunday readings and learn more about our Catholic faith by exploring various topics in the faith. Come and join us Monday or Wednesday.
All Ladies of Our Lady of Grace Parish are invited to come and join our group of SHAWL MAKERS. We will be starting up again, after Covid 19, on October 6,

"Pero Jesús le respondió: ‘“No se lo prohíban, porque no hay ninguno que haga milagros en mi nombre, que luego sea capaz de hablar mal de mí’”. - Marcos 9, 39
"Sabrán que somos cristianos por nuestro amor” es parte de la letra de una canción muy conocida en muchos himnarios de las iglesias. La letra dice que nuestras acciones compasivas y caritativas hacia los demás, independientemente del origen o la condición de la persona, es un testimonio de que somos seguidores de Jesucristo. También es cierto que una persona puede hacer un acto virtuoso y solidario por otra persona y sin embargo, no ser cristiano. En el capítulo 9 del Evangelio según san Marcos, vemos a los discípulos diciéndole a Jesús que alguien estaba expulsando demonios en su nombre y que no era un seguidor suyo. Nuestro Señor les dice que no condenen al individuo por hacer algo bueno por otra persona en su nombre.
Los cristianos debemos distinguir el bien del mal. Una conciencia bien formada nos dice cuando cometemos un pecado. Muchas veces, por debilidad o ira, hacemos cosas de las que luego nos arrepentimos. Sabemos que no debemos hacerlo, pero ese pecado puede convertirse en algo habitual hasta el punto de que nos insensibilizamos y ya no nos damos cuenta de qué es un pecado.
Jesús nos advierte sobre este peligro, especialmente si estamos guiando a otros por un camino pecaminoso. Y utiliza ejemplos contundentes y extremos para hacer entender este punto. Si nuestra mano nos hace pecar, debemos cortarla. Si nuestros ojos nos hacen pecar, hay que arrancarlos. Se trata de eliminar de nuestra vida todo lo que nos lleve a pecar. Jesús utiliza estos ejemplos tajantes para enseñarnos la gravedad del pecado. Lo que perdemos en la tierra no es nada comparado con lo que podemos perder eternamente. Ten el valor de evitar los momentos que te acercan al pecado: la glotonería, el lenguaje ofensivo, la ira, la avaricia, la lujuria, el robo y otros más. En los momentos de debilidad, pidamos al Espíritu Santo que nos guíe de manera que revele lo mejor de nosotros, y así nuestra fe se manifestará en nuestras acciones.
