Rachel’s Vineyard Men are welcome on Rachel’s Vineyard retreats The retreats are for any man or woman suffering after abortion. “Jennifer”, a retreat participant, reveals the special blessing that men bring to the retreat: “I used to consider post-abortion healing only a woman’s issue. As you know, men grieve too…but I never knew that. I can’t tell you how much the pres-ence of men on the RV Re-treat has helped me to heal. Abortion divides us. It divides mother from child and severs the love in many relation-ships… I never realized that men suffer deep grief from this. I think we need each other to fully reconcile what this pain has done in our lives and to our relationships. The men who attended my retreat helped to restore my faith in men…and that is a miracle!” If God is calling you to hope and healing OR to minister to those in need of hope and healing here in our local community, please con-tact Lisa Petersen (509-421-7847 or [email protected])for more information. Your call will be kept completely confidential.

“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” Christ cautions us often concerning our sense of conver-sion and timing. It has a lot to do with procrastination — that is, putting something off or delaying something which needs to be ac-complished. Most of us understand the im-portance of living up to Christ’s expectations and living life in a way to which He has called us. In other words, we comprehend that we need to be His disciples, but we seem to find excuses and reasons not to totally commit to that. That is exactly the issue Jesus is addressing in today’s Gospel from St. Matthew, which is essentially the Parable of the Ten Virgins. Are we truly prepared for the return of Christ, the Second Coming? In a sense it has everything to do with death. We may not wish to think about it but we do know that death is inevitable, and have we done everything we need to do to be prepared? It was St. Augustine of Hippo who said, “God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised to-morrow to your procrastination.” Like the Virgins in the para-ble, we cannot wait. Now, this very moment, is the time for us to do what God has called us to do, and that is live lives of stewardship in service and love to others. There are indeed no promises about tomorrow, but Christ has offered us hope for eternal life. Have we done everything we need to do to be ready? From http://www.catholicsteward.com/blog) Witnessing to the Sanctity of Human Life: The Example of Jerome Lejeune, M.D. In 1959 Lejeune discovered the cause of Down’s Syndrome. He committed himself to the pro-life cause when he discov-ered that children with Down’s Syndrome were being aborted in ever greater numbers. In 1991, he wrote a summary of his reflections on medical ethics: 1). Christians, be not afraid. It is you who possess the truth. Not that you invented it but because you are the vehicle for it. To all doctors, you must repeat: "you must conquer the illness, not at-tack the patient." 2). We are made in the image of God. For this reason alone all human beings must be respected. 3). Abortion and infanticide are unspeakable crimes. 4). Objective morality exists. It is clear and it is universal. 5). In so-called pluralistic societies, they shout it down our throats: "You Christians do not have the right to impose your morality on others." Well, I tell you, not only do you have the right to try to incorporate your morality in the law but it is your democratic duty. In 1993, Blessed Pope John Paul, his close friend, appointed Lejeune as the first president of the Pontifical Academy for Life. French bishops have introduced his cause for canonization.
