Pasto
r’s Letter
Dear Parishioners:
As you may know, Mike Piazza was inducted into the Major League Hall of Fame in Cooperstown,
NY last Sunday. I was struck by his focus on God and his Catholic faith during his speech. The
speech lasted about 28 minutes but I would encourage you to listen to his speech. I especially en-
courage you to listen to the last 10 minutes. He said the following:
My mother gave me the greatest gift one could
give a child: She gave me the gift of my Catholic
faith. This has had a profound impact on my
career and has given me patience, compassion
and hope. Pope Benedict XVI said, “The one
who has hope lives differently.” Mom, you
are a true woman of God.
In speaking to his children, he continued:
I pray you always have peace and love in your
life. Go out, dream big, work tirelessly and
love the Lord. It worked for your dad.
Mike Piazza concluded his speech:
Above all, my religion is a source of personal
strength, not a reason to impose your will or
put down those who are different. My belief
in God has driven me since my childhood and
formed my core values of hard work, faith and
belief in yourself. It means feeling a need to
give back to your teammates, your community
and to our children.
God bless you!
Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.
In Christ,
Fr. Brian
PS: This past Tuesday, July 26, was the Memorial of Sts. Joachim and Anne, the parents of
Mary, the Blessed Mother. That also makes them the grandparents of Jesus. So, I like to
call July 26 “Catholic Grandparents Day.” Pope Francis said, “There are some things we
really need to take care of: children and grandparents … Grandparents are the living
memory of the family. They passed on the faith; they transmitted the faith to us ... How
important grandparents are for family life, for the passing on of the human and religious
heritage which is so essential to each and every society. How important it is to have inter-
generational exchanges and dialogues, especially within the context of the family.”

The Gift of Hope There are many couples who long for a
child, but are unable to conceive. They
are not alone.
Recognizing this desire, Catholic
Health Services (CHS) invites women
to reach out in hope to the Gianna of
Long Island Center for Women’s Health and Fertility based at CHS’s
Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip to learn more about our services, including Restorative
Reproductive Medicine.
At Gianna, we offer new, natural women’s health care that seeks to identify
the source of infertility and address it so conception can occur naturally. This
method has proven highly successful, even for women who have tried other
methods.
Please call Gianna today at 631.376.3232

Jubilee Year of Mercy During the month of July, let us look at Psalm 103 which links mercy and compassion.
How do mercy and compassion interrelate? Can we have one without the other?
Psalm 103: The Lord Is Kind and Merciful
Refrain: The Lord is kind and merciful, the Lord is kind and merciful.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all my being bless God’s name;
bless the Lord, and forget not God’s benefits.
God pardons all your iniquities, and comforts your sorrows,
Redeems your life from destruction and crowns you with kindness.
Merciful, merciful, and gracious is our God;
Slow to anger, abounding in kindness.
Nocturnal Adoration “Come to me all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.”
This is Jesus Christ’s invitation every first Saturday of the month. The Blessed
Sacrament is taken to the altar after the 5:00pm Mass and will be exposed up to
9:50pm. Everyone is invited to spend some time in front of the Blessed Sacra-
ment to offer prayers, petitions and thanksgiving to Jesus. Nocturnal Adoration
will follow the 5:00pm Mass on Saturday, August 6, concluding with Benedic-
tion at 9:50pm. Please come and pray with us. All are invited and welcome.

Something to Draw
Draw a picture of yourself giving one of your books away to someone who doesn't have any.
Mission for the Week
When you get home, pack three toys and three books to give to children without any.
Prayer
Dear God, help me to remember what is really important to you.
Sharing the Gospel When you put Jesus first in your life, you will have everything you need. Having a lot of stuff won't really make you or God happy. God doesn't want you to keep your blessings to yourself. God wants you to share what He has given you. Be "rich" in only the things that God cares about. The closer you grow with God, the happier you will be.
