My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes,
This year again, Thanksgiving leads us right into Advent. I invite the whole parish
family to come together for Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day to give thanks for
all the blessings we have received this past year and to look forward with hope and
expectation as we prepare to receive Christ anew at Christmas.
Next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, the season of preparation and of hope. We
have published the Advent Calendar for Our Lady of Lourdes in one page so you can
put it on your refrigerator or bulletin board and take full advantage of this beautiful
season. If you have received the calendar from us in your email please forward it to
your family and friends and invite them to join us as well.
For the first Sunday of Advent we are again inviting everyone to bring their Advent
Wreath from home to Mass and we will bless it together with the Advent Wreath for
the parish. If you do not have an Advent Wreath for home you can get one at our Holy
Boutique. Our Angel Tree returns and will be set up in the outside vestibule. The
Angel Tree has ornaments on it with the names of people who could use and would
love a little help and affection at Christmas. Each ornament has a suggested gift on it
and our St. Vincent de Paul Society will be collecting and distributing our gifts.
Fr. Alvaro Pinzon will be with us this year for our Advent Mission. The theme of the
mission is Five Dimensions of New Life in the Holy Spirit (Nacer de Nuevo con el
Espíritu Santo en Cinco Dimensiones). He has recently published two books on the
theme, one for couples in crisis. The mission will be Monday and Tuesday evenings in
the main church. He will speak in Spanish and we will provide simultaneous
translation into English.
The traditional Gritería in honor of the Immaculate Conception will be celebrated the
evening of Sunday, December 7th after the 6:30 pm Mass.
Our annual Mass of Consecration to Jesus through Mary will be on the Solemnity of
the Immaculate Conception, Monday December 8th at 7:00 p.m.
On the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, December 12th, our choirs will offer their
annual concert at 8 pm in the main church. Each year that concert grows larger and
more beautiful! The third Sunday of Advent follows with the blessings of our
expectant mothers, their children in the womb, and their families. Advent is a beautiful
time to celebrate God’s gift of life and to say yes with Mary to our place in His divine
plan.
Finally, on the 4th Sunday of Advent we will bless our Infant Jesus for the parish
crèche and invite you to bring the baby Jesus from your crèche at home to share in the
blessing.
You can see then that we have a beautiful season planned so that we might enter
wholly into the joy of Christmas when we gather to celebrate our Savior’s birth. Come
and join us!

Mi Querida Familia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes,
Este año de nuevo, Acción de Gracias nos lleva directo al Adviento. Invito a toda la
familia de la parroquia a reunirnos para la Misa a las 10:00 de la mañana del Día de
Acción de Gracias para dar gracias por todas las bendiciones que hemos recibido este
año pasado y mirar hacia adelante con esperanza y expectativa, mientras nos
preparamos para recibir a Cristo de nuevo en Navidad.
El próximo domingo es el primer domingo de Adviento, tiempo de preparación y de
esperanza. Hemos publicado el Calendario de Adviento de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes
en una página que usted puede poner en su refrigerador o tablón de anuncios y sacar el
máximo provecho de esta bella temporada. Si usted ha recibido el calendario de
nosotros en su correo electrónico por favor, envíelo a su familia y amigos e invítelos a
unirse a nosotros también.
Para el primer domingo de Adviento estamos invitando nuevamente a todos a traer su
corona de Adviento de la casa a la Misa para bendecirla junto con la corona de
Adviento de la parroquia. Si usted no tiene una corona de Adviento para el hogar
puede conseguirla en nuestra Tienda Parroquial. Nuestro Árbol de Ángeles regresa y
estará en el vestíbulo exterior. El Árbol de Ángeles tiene adornos en él con los
nombres de personas que podrían utilizar y les encantaría un poco de ayuda y afecto en
Navidad. Cada ornamento tiene un regalo sugerido en él y nuestra Sociedad San
Vicente de Paúl estará recolectando y distribuyendo nuestros regalos.
El padre Alvaro Pinzón estará con nosotros este año para nuestra Misión de Adviento.
El tema de la misión es Nacer de Nuevo Con El Espíritu Santo en Cinco Dimensiones.
Recientemente el ha publicado dos libros sobre el tema, uno de ellos para parejas en
crisis. La misión será el lunes y el martes por la noche en la iglesia principal. Él va a
hablar en español y tendremos traducción simultánea al inglés.

7 de diciembre después de la Misa de 6:30 pm.
Nuestra Misa anual de Consagración a Jesús por María será en la Solemnidad de la
Inmaculada Concepción, el lunes 8 de diciembre a las 7:00 pm.
En la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, 12 de diciembre, nuestros coros
ofrecerán su concierto anual a las 8 pm en la iglesia principal. ¡Cada año el concierto
se hace más grande y más bello! El tercer domingo de Adviento sigue con las
bendiciones de nuestras futuras madres, sus hijos en el vientre, y sus familias. El
Adviento es un tiempo hermoso para celebrar el regalo de la vida que nos da Dios y
decir que sí con María a nuestro lugar en Su plan divino.
Por último, en el cuarto domingo de Adviento bendeciremos a nuestro Niño Jesús del
nacimiento de la parroquia y le invitamos a traer al niño Jesús de su nacimiento en casa
para compartir la bendición.
Se puede ver entonces que tenemos una temporada hermosa planeada para que
podamos entrar en su totalidad en el gozo de la Navidad, cuando nos reunimos para
celebrar el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador. ¡Ven y únete a nosotros!

Thanksgiving Day Let us Give Thanks!
There will be only one Mass (multilingual) celebrating Thanksgiving day at 10 AM on Thursday,
November 27, 2014. The offertory collection at Mass will be to assist our ministries that help the poor.
All children are invited to dress as Pilgrims or Indians, or in their native country costumes for Mass this day.
Immediately following Thanksgiving Mass, we will be having a pie and cider reception at the entrance of the Church. We invite you bring a pie before Mass, to the Sacristy, and share a few minutes together afterwards with
your parish family, for this, our delicious celebration.

Why Catholic? Our Journey Through the Catechism Why Catholic? provides us with a way to deepen our faith and expand our knowledge of the faith as we work and study together in small groups.
Sessions are held in the Parish Hall on scheduled Wednesdays from 8:00 P. M. until 9:45 P. M.
Participants need to register for the program and obtain a copy of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults and a copy of the Catholic Readers
Edition of the New American Bible (Revised Edition). The catechism ($25.00) and the bible ($10.00) are available at the Holy Boutique store at Our
Lady of Lourdes or from any Catholic source. The registration fee of $35.00 helps offset the cost of bringing the program to you.
You can register for Why Catholic? during normal office hours at the Christian Formation office or at the door when you come to the session. Our next Why Catholic? sessions will be on “Prayer in the Old Testament” on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in English or on December 10, 2014 in
Spanish as we explore this essential aspect of our Heritage of Faith. Prayer in the Old Testament - The patriarchs and other people of faith in the Old Testament were steeped in prayer as they responded to God’s call in
faith. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Hannah, Esther, Tobiah and so many others teach us to pray in so many ways and under all sorts of circumstances. Their
prayers and the Psalms are still very much part of our daily prayers, especially in the Liturgy of the Hours and at the Mass.
