The church is open for private prayer Monday – Saturday from 7:45 a.m. – 12 noon.
Mass Reservations A reservation system for Sunday Masses is in place with
a seating capacity of 80 per Mass. This reflects 25% of
our official capacity. Although the capacity was raised to
34%, OLS will continue to retain the 25%. If a particular
Mass “maxes out” at 25% for three consecutive weeks,
the “Re-opening Task Force” will be consulted as to how
to best accommodate the additional attendees. We
continue to encourage all parishioners to use the
reservation link which is located on our website
www.olscc.com Please print your confirmation and
bring it to Mass with you. Members of the Task Force
will be on hand before and after Mass to assist attendees.
Family “units” may sit together.
Remember…You do not have an obligation to go to
Mass during the coronavirus pandemic. Cardinal Dolan
has dispensed us from the obligation to attend Sunday
Mass at this time. Please join us for Mass in the church
only when you feel safe and comfortable to do so. As an
alternative, you can watch Mass on-line or on T.V. and
make an Act of Spiritual Communion (see below) when
you are unable to physically receive the Eucharist.
Prayer for a Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most
Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I
desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you
sacramentally,
Come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there
And unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.
Please Support our Bulletin Advertisers
Last weekend we returned to “publishing” our weekly
bulletin on our website (Covid-19 regulations do not
permit printed materials in the church). Please show
your support by patronizing our advertisers. Let them
know that you appreciate their advertising in our Bulletin
especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 2, 2020
AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT On Tuesday, July 21, the Governors of New York, New
Jersey and Connecticut announced: "People traveling to
the tri-state area from 31 U.S. states are now instructed to
self-quarantine for 14 days." Those states are: AK, AL,
AR, AZ, CA, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, LA, MD,
MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, OH, OK, SC, TN,
TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.
In good conscience, please follow this important health
directive before returning to Mass.
Thank you.
Baptism Prep-Assistant Needed: Baptism is the rite of initiation into our church and a
welcome into our parish family. We are looking for a
welcoming parishioner who is willing to share his/her
faith story with families as we discuss the rite, talk about
being members of our faith family and the role of
Christian parents and godparents in the life of a new son
or daughter. We are asking for a commitment of about an
hour each third Wednesday evening of the month, which
can be shared with another parishioner. If you are
interested in helping, please contact Fr. Tim. Thank you.
Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace
A Prayer for Civility Lord make me an instrument of your peace.
Where uncivil words prevail, show me how to model
love.
Help me remember the God-given dignity of all and
invite others to do the same.
Show me how to build bridges and not walls and see first
what unites us rather than how we diverge.
Let me seek to understand before asking to be
understood.
Give me a listening heart filled with empathy and
compassion.
May I be clear in sharing my own position and respectful
and civil in describing those of others.
Let me never tolerate hateful ideas.
May I invite all to charity and love.
Lord, help me to imitate your compassion and mercy.
Make me an instrument of your peace.
Amen. Inspired by Nine Rules for Civility from the Catholic Tradition,

In thanksgiving for being able to receive
Holy Communion… “As two pieces of wax fused
together make one, so he who receives Holy Communion
is so united with Christ that
Christ is in him
and he is in Christ.
–St. Cyril of Alexandria
Our Lady of Sorrows,
Pray for Us.
Transfiguration of the Lord---August 6 He might be babbling, but Peter gets it right: It is good to
be atop the mountain. Of course he doesn’t want to leave.
The glory they may have sensed in Jesus is now fully
revealed. And he’s in good company: Moses and Elijah,
the embodiments of the Law and the Prophets that are
now fulfilled in Jesus. Such an experience is worth
extending; it should be fully revealed in and absorbed.
Storm clouds are gathering over Jesus as his passion
approaches. But here, the cloud that hovers thunders his
praise and demand we listen to him. It is good for us to be
here. (Graziano Marcheschi)
We are called to be transformed from our sinful ways.
We are also called to accompany Jesus; only then we
will be transformed and share in his glory.

This Sunday’s Readings
Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time First Reading: Isaiah 55:1-3
With great enthusiasm and fervor, God urges his people
to come to him and to accept the gifts he extends to them. Second Reading: Romans 8:35, 37-39
In words that are both stirring and courageous, Paul
exclaims that nothing will separate him and his followers
from the love of Christ -- neither trial -- nor persecution--
nor death. Gospel: Matthew 14:13-21
Matthew gives us a straightforward and convincing
account of the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Because
the crowds following Jesus were hungry, he took five
loaves and two fish, blessed them, and gave them to the
crowds. Although the people numbered about five
thousand, there was still food remaining. ©1999 Bon Venture Services, Inc.
