Understanding My ValueTo My Church Community

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled;but whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Mt 23:12

I was speaking with a friend recently who works withpregnant, homeless women. I was in awe, amazed by themany ways that he is helping them right their lives andbegin again. But all he could talk about was how humbledhe is by the whole experience and how moved he is bybeing in their presence. Through his humble and often difficultexperiences of working with these women who are strugglingto provide by themselves and their newborn children, myfriend has been exalted—not to a position of power orinfluence but, rather, to a place nearer the heart of God.Such exaltation—rooted in humble service—is the only kindworthy of our walk with God. For the work we do throughGod begins when we kneel before our Creator. It comes tofruition when we kneel before those in need, offering ourlives in service.

An excerpt from Living Faith

Our walk with God, I really think that is a beautiful phrase. Iwalk just about everyday (if it wasn’t for my Gracie girl, myyellow lab, I probably would skip a day or two) and duringthose walks I talk over things with God. This time with himis special and it helps me stay focused on what is reallyimportant - that I need God desperately in my life.

Jesus calls us to follow him, to spend time with him andwhen we do we receive great benefit from it. Our faith lifegrows and we can learn to be a disciple of Jesus, helpingothers, loving others, seeing others as God sees them, ashis sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters. Normally,we all want to help our families and if we look at others asour family we will want to help them. There are lots of peoplethat need us, that need our care and love. We must find away to help them, and it is a personal decision to do so. Itis definitely good for us as well because we must serveothers to reach heaven. In helping others our faith can grow. What can we do today that will help another person?

Encounter Jesus, Serve Others.
