At The Crossroads ~ Community Worship Series for Lent – 2017 Many of those involved in the story of the Passion of Christ came to a crossroads and had to decide which way to go. Some chose well, some did not. The stories of these experiences at various crossroads help us to know what to do when we en-counter similar situations in our own lives. We hear how Christ and his cross lead us to follow the path of God’s will.

During the month of March, we enter the Lenten Season. We begin the 40-day journey to the cross. Lent finds its end in Holy Week.
This year we are participating in area-wide services considering the Crossroads. Join us for a special series. Each Wednesday service in the series reveals in some way how Christ and his cross leads us to decide the path of God’s will for our many crossroads in life.
Lent begins with a service on March 1 which is Ash Wednesday. In this service David reaches a crossroads of confession and confesses his sins to the Lord. We will also have the Imposition of Ashes.
The complete Wednesday Lenten Schedule is included in the newsletter on page 1. It promises to be a rewarding and renewing time of worship.
On Sunday mornings we focus on the last days in the life and ministry of Jesus. Children will have a special series and bulletin included in the service.
As Spring begins, renew your faith.
See you in worship!
Your friend and pastor, Pastor Janet Warnes

SPRING IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER
In the church we celebrate The Blessing of the Seed
on Sunday, April 2. It is important that we recognize
the role we play in caring for creation. As we care
for our environment we ultimately care for people.
Our natural resources, given by God, will provide
clean air, clean water and tillable land.
Ways to care for our environment:
(1) Recycle paper and plastic
(2) Recycle aluminum
(3) Arrange for an energy audit
(4) Turn off lights when not in use
(5) Update to natural cleaning supplies
(6) When renovating, consider using recycled building materials

February is a short month to begin with so I don’t know why it had to just fly by. We are missing three of the ladies as they are in their winter havens. But the work goes on...
We completed our Thrivent grants. We called our project “Quilting, to wrap those in need in Love”. We called the Northland Mission and asked for their most urgent needs: warm stocking caps, gloves, men’s socks, and personal care items. Ilayne Po-tucek, along with chauffeur Jack and yours truly went shopping. Two women with a $250 debit card from Thrivent— oh, we had fun! We spent it all, pur-chasing 18 stocking caps, 24 pairs gloves, 54 pairs of men’s socks, men’s handkerchiefs, deodorant, tooth-paste, and many other personal care items. We also had some donations of mittens and scarves. Thank You! We also sent 8 quilts. Gladwin Lynne delivered
P A G E 6
it all and we have received a thank-you card from the Mission.
Our second project was for the St Gianna’s Maternity Home. Our driver was Marilyn Chruzsch and we deliv-ered to Grand Forks, where a house mother met us in the Walmart parking lot. We gave them 8 baby blan-kets, 280 disposable diapers, 15 receiving blankets, 10 pairs socks, 8 onesies, 8 cloth diapers, 1 sweater and 2 outfits. We have also received a thank-you card from St. Gianna’s. Both they and the Mission are so appre-ciative of our gifts to them.
Yes, we have been busy! Now it’s time to make the Lutheran World Relief quilts. The first Saturday in May is the delivery date for them. Did I say we are busy?! Please come join us on Tuesdays from 1-4 pm at OSL.

MARCH SERVANTS
Miss ion action
Friends gather together to cut, sew, iron, and tie.
Quilting until the afternoon goes by.
Lots of stories and laughter keep us amused. Always a dish to share
from rhubarb recipes well-used.
We’re not a bunch of Legos, a group with interchangeable parts.
We’re women; friends with quilter’s hearts.
Here we treasure the gifts in each other we discover, For we know everyone has value,
offerings to finish the cover.
We gather scraps, no longer serving usefully.
With vision deep, we see the possibility.
This one with that one and ooh, ahh, oh, the resulting beauty.
Whether it is by vision, planning, or trial and error,
Each quilt is finished and sent with a prayer. This is how quilters give hugs near or far.
Simply quite amazing,
their hugs may even reach from heaven above, If only you’ll wrap yourself
in a quilt handmade with love.
A Tribute to the Quilters

Financial products for the ages ~ Choosing the right product for your life stage No matter where you are in your life, you have a lot of decisions to make. When to buy your first house. What school to attend. Is it the right time for a job change? As things change in life, those changes influence your financial decisions, too. Below is an overview of the financial information you should be aware of and consider during the various stages in your life. This is intended to be informative only, and everyone’s needs will vary based on their situation. You should always seek advice from a licensed professional when considering the purchase of financial products. 20s In your 20s, you’re usually just starting off in your first job and struggling to make ends meet; beginning to build a financial portfolio is probably not at the top of your to-do list. However, this can be a critical time as it can set your financial foundation for the rest of your life. A top priority should be building an emergency savings account to help you get through an unexpected loss of a job or a large and unexpected financial obligation. This should be separate from your normal savings and should only be drawn from under extraordinary circumstances. Also consider looking into disability income insurance to make sure your income and savings are both protected if you were unable to work due to a long-term illness or injury. Also, this can be a time to start an investment portfolio, if you have the means, as the longer you’re invested the greater potential for long-term growth. Work with a financial professional to ensure your investments align with your appropriate level of risk for your situation. 30s Your 30s are the prime time to continue building a solid financial future. Hopefully you’re comfortable in your career, perhaps have gotten mar-ried and may even have begun building a family. This is when your financial options start to open up and you may want to think about life insur-ance to offer protection for your family’s future against an unexpected death and loss of income. Term insurance for yourself and coverage for your children are usually affordable, easy to get and can offer additional financial protection for you and your family. This is also when you should be serious about your savings plans. Retirement savings should be at the top of your mind as you’ve started to make more money in your 30s and are becoming more comfortable navigating your bills and expenses. IRAs, 401(k)s, annuities and other retirement savings tools are im-portant for you since the earlier you start saving, the more you accumulate. And it’s never too early to think about college savings for children. 40s In your 40s, many people have teenage children, tackle new challenges and opportunities in their professional lives and have established a level of income they can rely on comfortably. You can work with your child to investigate the various options (savings, aid, loans, grants, etc.) to help pay for post-secondary education. This might be a time to consider additional life insurance, as your assets and need for protection have grown. Since you’re probably about halfway through your career, you should also keep an eye on retirement and your overall retirement strategy. 50s Your 50s are an exciting time in your financial life. Your children have probably left the nest and retirement is just around the corner. You should think about establishing a floor of guaranteed income, possibly by purchasing an annuity or insurance product, to meet your essential expenses that will continue into your retirement. This is the time to consider how you want to live in retirement and beyond. What level of income would you like after you retire and how will you maintain your standard of living? Are you protecting your savings from the high costs of extended care? This is also a time when you should discuss your extended care plans with loved ones, and how that might affect everyone involved. 60s In your 60s, your retirement has probably arrived or is right around the corner. This is where managing assets, investments and financial strate-gies are critical. Meeting regularly with your financial representative at this life stage will help you stay on track with your financial goals. This is also a time to consider leaving a legacy through a life insurance policy that designates your children or a favorite charity as a beneficiary. Anoth-er option for securing your future is Medicare supplement insurance, which will help with medical bills not covered by Medicare. This protection can help safeguard your retirement assets from additional costly medical bills. With a solid financial program in place and the support of a financial professional, you can be prepared for a lifetime of wise financial choices.
