Mission of IAAS

To train competent manpower in agriculture and allied disciplines, and to promote research, development

and technology dissemination in agriculture.

History of IAAS The Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) - Nepal,

began as a School of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture in 1957 to train Junior Technical Assistants (JTAs) in agriculture

In 1968, the school was upgraded to College of Agriculture and a two- year Intermediate of Agricultural Science (I.Sc.Ag.) program was started.

In 1972, the College of Agriculture was given the status of the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science under Tribhuvan University.

Until this time, the institute did not have its own buildings and facilities and was operated at "Jagdamba Bhawan" at Pulchok in Kathmandu. In 1974, the institute was relocated from Kathmandu to its present site at Rampur in Chitwan District where 110 hectares of land, buildings and facilities of then Panchayat Training Center were endowed to the institute.

Ministry of Agriculture was handed over to IAAS for teaching.

At present the institute has its central campus at Rampur and two branch campuses. The Lamjung Campus, located at Sundar Bazar in Lamjung District was established in 1975 and The Paklihawa Campus located at Bhairahawa in Rupandehi District was established in 1978.

Started with a few permanent faculty positions in 1972, the IAAS now implements teaching, research and extension programs through a core of over 150 trained and dedicated faculty members at its central and the branch campuses.

Students study about animal diseases, their cure, surgery and many more just like in

human

Students are eligible to write Dr. after they complete B. V. Sc./A.H.

Program.

And near about 50 students are studying B.Sc.Ag in Baitadi Campus which is totally private under affiliation of Tribhuvan University.

Students must pass S.L.C. of equivalent level.

S/he must pass 100 full mark of English, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2 or I. Sc. or Equivalent.

Also S/he must pass 50 full mark of physics and Mathematics in 10+2/ I. Sc. or Equivalent.

S/he must obtain at-least 50% aggregate marks in 10+2/ I. Sc. or Equivalent.

Direct entrance carries only 80% of the total full marks. Rest 10% is from S.L.C. percentage and another 10% is from +2 level percentage

Now lets get some information about AFU which also helps in production of agriculture scientist and veterinarian in Nepal….

Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) has been established as a result of a bill enacted by Nepalese Parliament on June, 2010 at Rampur, Chitwan constituting two campuses under Tribhuvan University ; Agriculture Campus, Rampur, Chitwan and the Forestry Campus, Hetauda, Makawanpur.

widely believed that this university will be instrumental in transforming traditional and subsistence farming system into a vibrant professional, commercial and an industrial enterprise so as to enhance food security and economic growth and sustainable development.

AFU has its own specific and standard organizational structure, academic programs and curricula developed by well experienced and qualified professional involved in the academic development since several decades.

AFU is the first University in Nepal that is based on Land Grant Model, with the mandate of conducting instruction (teaching), research, and extension programs for agriculture and forestry development in the country.
