Unseasonal Spring Rain - 4 vs Sth Taieri and Otago Athletics Sports – 0

While nobody can control the weather, it is disappointing that both athletics meetings have had to be abandoned, with something students and teachers have put effort into, not going ahead. Equally disappointing, the Year 7 and 8 students were expecting to be rafting down the Taieri today! Our school value of resilience is being well tested!

I hope all those families affected by floodwater on their properties dry out quickly with the clean-up completed in short time. I suspect it will be a very busy weekend for many of you.

From events this week, just a couple of reminders…

Please keep our phone lines as free as possible, we need to have open communication with the DCC, emergency services and those families who need to get important messages to us. We will keep you informed through School Stream and the school website. We have an emergency contact list and a system to contact all families if required.

Access to School Stream and / or checking the school website is important. If you can’t access either of these things, please have an arrangement with another family to keep you informed.

The school has a very large catchment. The decisions we make are based on what is happening out on the wider Taieri. Flood water, extreme ice or snow anywhere within the school zone will influence our call on 10.00 am starts or school closure.

Next week, Room 5, 6, 7 start their ‘Just Swim’ lessons at Mosgiel Pool. (An activity that should be able to go ahead no matter what the weather throws at us!) This is an important part of our Physical Education programme and we are grateful for the support from FOS and the Bendigo Trust.

The Then ‘till Now Car Show Next Tuesday 27th November

11am-12noon

The Junior School have been learning about transport through the ages. To give them a visual

picture of cars from then till now we have organised a car show. This will be open to the public

from 11am. We have a great range of cars from a 1922 Lorraine Dietrich to a 2018 Electric

Hyundai Kona.

Among the range we also have a 2016 Lamborghini. It would be worth you taking an hour out of

your day to come along and enjoy our show.

Leavers’ Dinner A request for a few hands… On Tuesday 11 December, our Leavers’ Dinner is coming up at the West Taieri Rugby Club. This is a special function where we celebrate our Year 8 students who are moving on. The meal for this function is all organized but I could really use approximately 3 people who would be happy to oversee the final stages of the preparation, putting out the buffet meal and clean up, including dishes. There is a dish washer! You would be needed from 6 pm and should be all cleaned up by 9 pm. If you are in a position to help me out, I would love to hear from you. Either send me a note or email me on [email protected] Thank you so much Janferie Tansley

‘Blue Day’ – Raising money for Diabetes New Zealand

If you are planning on purchasing a Chromebook for your child as a Christmas present for learning at Outram School in 2019 then you need to read this. If you would like them to use the chromebook over the Christmas break, then please let me know as I will get this set up for you before school ends for the year. If they are using them on our Google network they MUST be set up by school BEFORE they can be used at home. The final day for set up of Chromebooks will be Friday the 14th of December. There will be dates late January for set ups before the new year starts. Come along to the Chromebook and Bring Your Own Device evening in November to find out more.

Taieri e-Day

Last Wednesday I took 11 seniors to Silverstream School for the 12th annual Taieri e-Day. The focus is on the children teaching other children all things techie. Some of our team were there to teach Scratch to other schools. The children learned a wide variety of new skills which they have brought back to school to share with their peers. It was an honour yet again to organise this day for the Taieri schools and to have Outram participating. I look forward to hosting all the schools in 2019 at Outram! Amber Paterson

Some cool stories about the recent rain from Room 4

Yesterday it was raining when I got home. I was surprised when I saw the amount of water on my

street. I quickly put my gumboots on and walked over to one of my neighbours house and I saw a

very big sink hole. I didn’t go very close to it because I felt like I was going to fall in. The water was

over the top of my gumboots. It was scary.

By Maddie

The humungous flood. Splish! Slop! Splash! As I ran to check the spuds to see if they were drowned.

Oh no! the spuds are drowned. Oh no all of our plants and seeds are drowned. I don’t like this day.

I went to tell dad. He came out with me. When he saw the drowned things he said, “you naughtly

flood, go away, go to someone else’s home.

Fuel for Schools Fuel for Schools is a programme where people/businesses can nominate Outram School to earn points when they purchase bulk fuel supplies from Southfuels. So if you get your fuel from Southfuels

we would love you to nominate Outram School. The points we earn enable us to choose a package

which could be sporting equipment or technology. We would like to thank Sinclair Saw & Mower, Outram Contacting, Mining Construction Equipment

Repairs Ltd & Riverview Trust who have already nominated us. We look forward to your support.

Outram School Hoodies The board have designed a hoodie which is a new addition to our non-compulsory uniform items. This would be great to keep kids warm at school events i.e. touch, hockey, athletics etc. There is a sample in the office foyer for you to look at. I also have sample sizes for you to try on. This can be ordered and paid for at the school office. Cost is $67 for kids size 6-14 or $69 for adults sizes XS-3XL.

Here is a simple way to fundraise for Outram School without you having to give up your time – just buy petrol at Challenge Petrol Stations

Challenge has introduced My Challenge, a new rewards programme where you can choose to donate your fuel discount to us. A 6c fuel discount can equal 6c for us each time someone chooses to donate it. This may seem like a small amount on its own, however over time, and with lots of people donating, could add up to a lot. You can sign up here. [https://mychallenge.co.nz/communities]
