“OVATIONS” is the inter-departmental cultural extravaganza of Loyola College. It lays a platform for the Loyolites to exhibit their talents and skills with great enthusiasm. OVATIONS focus on student’s togetherness towards the common interest. “OVATIONS” is stepping into its 28th year with great joy where it culminates the talents of students of varied departments. This year, OVATIONS 2019 is organized by the Loyola Students Union and the Deans of Students Office. “OVATIONS” develops team work as students participate as a department and the team with highest points will be declared as “Champions”.

The Curtain raiser for the OVATIONS 2019 is scheduled on the 5th September, 2019. Every year, OVATIONS is organized with a theme and the stage is set for portraying the skills of the student community.

OVATIONS 2018 was based on the theme “UBUNTU – HUMANITY TOWARDS OTHERS”.

The ultimate goal of our society is the promotion of ethnic cohesion and peace. We should learn to live in a collective society in order to promote Harmony. “Euphony is result of solidarity of Instruments” is the saying which has to be instigated in young minds.

This year the theme of Ovations 2019 is

“Solidarity of Euphony – Harmony among the society”

ABOUT OVATIONS

• Registration will be completely online & it will be allowed only once for each event.

• College ID cards have to be produced for verification prior to the event.

• Participants have to report to the venue 30 minutes prior to the event. Late comers will not be permitted.

• All music tracks (mp3 format only) are to be brought in a CD. Pen drives are not allowed Kindly label your disc with your lot number and department name. Always have a backup.

• Vulgarity in any form is strictly prohibited and will lead to immediate disqualification.

• Religion / Caste / Gender sentiments should not be hurt at any cost.

• Judge’s decision is final and binding in all cases. Any argument with the judges will lead to disqualification.

• Event rules, timing and venues may subject to change. In the event of change if any, prior information will be given.

• All union members are strictly restricted from participating in any of the events.

GENERAL RULES

• All materials submitted as work by participants during Ovations 2019 becomes the sole property of the Dean of Students Office and can be used for any promotional purposes.

• Minimum and maximum number of participants should be strictly adhered to.

• The team selected for the Grand Finale from the prelims has to be retained.

• Any sort of malpractice, like trying to influence the judges, will lead to disqualification.

• In case of a tie, Judge’s decision is final and binding.

• No outsiders shall be brought inside the college campus on any account.

• The contestants should not reveal their department name to which they belong. Failure to adhere will lead to immediate disqualification.

• The general rules of the college should be adhered to.

• Any grievance during the off – stage events/prelims should be reported to the Dean of Students as a written request within 30 minutes from the announcement of results.

GENERAL RULES

• All grievances should be signed by the association president and counter signed by the Department Head/Coordinator

• Any grievance during the main stage events i.e., during the GRAND FINALE should be reported to the grievance committee before the announcement of the result as a written request.

• All events involving costumes should get their costumes approved by the Dean of Women Students 24 hours prior to the event.

• Misleading content in all the main stage events will be severely dealt with and such department will be disquiet in all the events.

• Use of any type of reference materials including gadgets during the event is prohibited and will lead to disqualification.

What is the first thing coming to your mind after hearing the word Rangoli? It could be an imaginative expression

of art with the usage of colors, right. Here is a chance for you to splash your talent. Rangoli is an art form

originating in the Indian subcontinent in which patterns are created on the floor or the ground using material as

dry flour, colored flour.

2. Usage of words in Rangoli is prohibited

3. The participants will not be allowed to refer to any printed material etc. For preparing Rangoli.

6. Lyrics for GRAND FINALE has to be submitted to the Deans of Students Office on 20th September 2019 between 4:00 p.m & 5 p.m

6. Lyrics for GRAND FINALE has to be submitted to the Deans of Students Office on 19th September,2019 between 4:00 PM to 5 :00 PM

Rules:

4. Original compositions are allowed.

5. Usage of 2nd participant for beat boxing is optional.

Rules:

The music of junk is a fun, energetic, musical adventure of original music performed on instruments built out of

waste products

1. Participants must bring their own junk materials.

2. Maximum 5 junk materials can be used as musical instruments

3. Use of any Non- Junk instruments will lead to disqualification.

4. Junk materials will be reviewed one hour before the commencement of the event.

DANCE is developed by people to reflect their life of a particular country or region. In a country heavily

populated with various tribes, we have a vast number of ethnic dance forms that we hardly see.

Can you reflect your regions dance...?

1. Prelims will be conducted and 6 teams will qualify for the GRAND FINALE

2. No backdrop is permitted but properties are allowed.

3. Only pure folk is allowed, cinematic folk is strictly prohibited

4. Performance with live instruments can also be done.

5. Audio CD for prelims should be handed over to the DJ at the console 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the event.

6. Audio CD for Grand Finale should be handed over to the DJ console at the time of registration of the event.

Folk Dance(Main Stage)

Rules:

When words fail. DANCE!

Portray your message through a well-choreographed dance.

1. Prelims will be conducted and 6 teams will qualify for the GRAND FINALE.

2. No Backdrop is permitted but properties are allowed.

3. Audio CD for prelims should be handed over to the DJ at the console 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the event.

4. Audio CD for GRAND FIANLE should be handed over to the DJ at the console at the time of registration of the event.

5. Dancers should perform according to the theme of Ovations.

Participants: 1 Team per Department (8 to 12 Participants per Team)

Theme Dance(Main Stage)

Rules:

A traditional way of expressing stylish dance movements of various countries will have an enthralling experience. Let your feet do the talking. Make Ovations

bigger and better with Salsa, Samba, Meringue, Jazz, Hip Hop and Jive. Sweat to the beat at the ultimate war

of dance…!!!

1. Prelims will be conducted and 6 teams will qualify for the GRAND FIANLE.

2. No backdrop is permitted but properties are permitted.

3. Use of inflammable articles and heavy objects are strictly prohibited.

4. Audio CD for prelims should be handed over to the DJ at the console 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the event.

5. Audio CD for GRAND FIANLE should be handed over to the DJ at the console at the time of registration of the event.

6. Only pure western dance is permitted

DRAMATICS

We all have dreamt of going up onstage and delivering the performance of our lives.

Monoacting! Where the stage is yours, the spotlight is on you and you alone will be remembered for the amazing

performance you are about to put up.

1. Vulgarity/profanity will lead to the disqualification.

2. Properties and costumes are not permitted.

3. Verbal and visual portrayals/expressions hurting the Religion/caste/gender sentiments will lead to disqualification

Rules:

Theatrical techniques to express their action or character using only gesture, expression and

movement. Mime makes the invisible visible and the visible invisible. Show us the beauty of silence. Use your

2. A theme pertaining to this year ovations should be used for portraying.

3. Properties are not allowed.

3. Languages allowed – English &Tamil

6. Vulgarity in any form is strictly prohibited.

7. Verbal / caste / gender / expressions hurting the religion / caste / gender sentiments will lead to disqualification.

8. Ovations theme-based concepts should be taken to portray their performance.

9. Use of inflammable articles and heavy objects are strictly prohibited.
