OUR SERVICES All services and activities are provided free of charge to participants. Students accepted into the TRIO/Student Support Services program are required to meet with their assigned advisor periodically throughout the academic year and are expected to attend at least one workshop per semester and one cultural event per academic year. Support services include:

u Academic Advising and Coaching u Career Exploration u College and University Visits u Cultural and Social Engagement Events u Financial Counseling u HP Notebook and TI Graphic Calculator Loan Program u Scholarship Award Competitions u Service-Learning Activities u Skill Development Seminars/Workshops u Transfer Support u Tutorial Services and Supplemental Instruction

SUPPORT SERVICES Academic Advising, Coaching, and Career Exploration Personal and academic advisement is available on an individual and/or group basis. The contact is frequent and continuous throughout the student’s tenure at the College, and can cover matters such as: academic advisement, career exploration, college policies and expectations, course selection and registration, employment searches, fnancial aid application processes, personal coaching and transfer planning.

Cultural and Social Engagement Events TRIO/SSS participants are encouraged to participate in Cultural and Social Engagement Events sponsored by TRIO/SSS and DMACC. These activities may include educational feld trips to museums and exhibits, concerts, musicals, plays, sporting events and service-learning activities. Transportation and admission to these events are at no cost to the participant and are accessible on a frst-come, frst-served registration basis.

Laptop and Calculator Loan Program HP notebooks and TI graphing calculators are available for checkout to TRIO/SSS participants who are in good standing with the program. There are a limited number of laptops and calculators available; therefore, items are loaned out on a frst-come, frst-served basis.

OUR MISSION

The directive of the TRIO/Student Support Services program is to provide underrepresented

student populations with the added support mechanisms needed to meet the challenges of higher education. Through the development of academic and personal skills, the program

focuses on deepening critical thinking competencies, increasing student retention and promoting degree completion and transferring.

Scholarship Award Competitions Sufcient fnancial aid packages are crucial to college students. The TRIO/SSS Federal Student Scholarship Award is provided by the U.S. Department of Education to support the educational pursuits of outstanding TRIO/SSS participants. Scholarship amounts are dependent upon program funding. Candidates must complete the mandatory application process and qualifying requirements.

Skill Development Seminars/Workshops TRIO/SSS administration organize a variety of seminars, workshops and group coaching sessions that address topics such as: career discovery, efective communication, fnancial literacy, fnancial aid, healthy living, stress and time management, study skills, test anxiety and transfer planning. Other group sessions may be designed depending on the needs of participants.

Transfer Support For those who plan to continue their education beyond DMACC, there is assistance and information available to enable their successful transfer as they continue their education. Students will have the opportunity throughout the year to visit a variety of in-state colleges and universities.

Tutorial Services and Supplemental Instruction The TRIO/SSS Success Lab provides free peer tutoring and supplemental instruction to all SSS participants. Our program strives to provide quality academic support for most courses ofered at DMACC Urban Campus.
