“I like how I can tell the difference between my honors classes and my regular classes. My professors explain the lectures so much better and if I have any questions I know they'll respond immediately. I like how I feel encouraged and helped.”
“The honors professors did more with students than the regular ones. In addition, they would use different techniques to teach and at times have students teach the class or present the material to the class.”
“I really like how the classes are discussion based. It helps me work through areas in the curriculum and chapters that I was previously unsure about, but was talked through and we figured it out as a class. It also made me feel more comfortable with my peers, instead of just a bunch of people in a room, I feel like we're all friends.”
“This semester my professors were very delayed with grading homework and paper.”
21
“Some honors courses were really well put together, while others seemed to be disorganized or not challenging.”
Student Concerns vis a vis courses● Limited selection or lack of courses continue to be a problem
○ This impacts students perception of ‘cost and value’■ Students equate value of the program with enrollment in at least
one honors course each term
● Solutions○ Over the last year, we’ve been working with Campus Deans to identify
high demand courses that would satisfy different pathways, especially STEM majors
○ But building out new classes takes time○ Alternative approaches? Clusters, independent research, shared courses
