The ChallengeMANAGING A GLOBAL BUSINESS
Using a sophisticated computer simulation, competing teams are given the task of managing a fledgling UK-based global construction business that has been operating for just one year.
There are jobs, clients, rival competitors, risks and people worldwide, providing a challenge that is relevant and appropriate to the nature of the global construction industry today.

REALISTIC ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT
The ‘virtual’ environment the teams are operating in is based on the UK and World economies as they are today, both from a financial viewpoint, and in terms of the characteristics of different locations worldwide.
To add to the realism the environment is constantly changing to provide ongoing challenges.
STRATEGY
The new management team will need to develop a clear strategy to grow the business and improve its value.
Developing an effective strategy will involve acquiring a good understanding of :-
The economic environment in which the company is operating The current strengths and weaknesses of the business
SUCCESS OR FAILURE
Effective teamwork will be vital to ensure that the company runs smoothly, and the decisions that have to be made, and the fate of the company, lies in the hands of the new management team..
Making Key DecisionsDECISION MAKING
The teams manage their business for a number of rounds, where each round represents a quarter, or 3 months, in the ‘real world’.
Each round decisions are made to implement company strategy, and cover the key functions of the business :-
Financial management Overhead management Procurement Job progression
TIMEFRAME
There are 2 timeframes used :-
THE EARLY YEARS (Always)The competition for jobs comes from a number of simulated companies, each with their own unique profile and bidding strategy.
THE LATER YEARS (Optional)The teams compete ‘head to head’ against each other for both work and resources.
Assessing PerformanceThe performance of each team each round is measured by 10 Key Performance Indicators.
During a competition, each team’s performance relative to each other is displayed on a league table published at the end of each round, which only shows the overall KPI score of each team.
