Wireless Control System for Street and Area Lighting
Dimming street lights during off-peak times can save up to 30% in energy. Utilities need a reliable method
of metering a city’s street lights in order to credit the city for their energy savings. Owlet’s on-board
Metering Chipset monitors and reports power usage within a ±2% accuracy which is acceptable to most
utilities, so why invest in controls if your utility does not accept the metering!
Owlet is Schréder’s telemanagement system for monitoring, controlling, metering and managing
outdoor lighting. Based on open technologies it saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions,
improves outdoor lighting reliability and lowers maintenance costs. Owlet is ideal for street and roadway
lighting, college and corporate campuses, city centers, parking lots, boardwalks and other area lighting
applications.
Our controls work with any lighting manufacturer’s luminaires and we partner with all LED luminaire
manufacturers on projects.
Each individual luminaire can be switched on or off and dimmed at any time. The luminaire’s operating
state, energy consumption and component malfunctions are reported and stored in a database, noting
the time and geographical location. Owlet incorporates open architecture technology, with modern web
based applications for a system that can be upgraded and interfaced with other systems as technologies
evolve in the future.

Energy Saving Strategies
Reduce your energy consumption for lighting by an average of 40%
• TIME BASED SAVINGSSave an average of 40 percent of
energy costs by adjusting the
lighting levels to the time
and local conditions. For
example, lower levels
late at night and higher
levels when pedestrians
are present.
All controlled luminaires are monitored
so alerts can be sent for outages or other
equipment problems. Adjustments can
be made remotely to on/off schedules
or light levels.
All field information is stored in a
database for energy analysis, lamp life
forecasting and other evaluation.
• VIRTUAL POWER OUTPUTDetermine the exact wattage
required for the lumen output
required instead of having
to choose a higher wattage
lamp for minimum light level
requirements.
• CONSTANT LIGHT OUTPUTSave up to 10 percent of
energy costs by reducing the
power and lumen output for
new lamps that deliver more light
compared to older lamps nearing the
end of their life cycle.

Luminaire Controller
The luminaire controller is a small, compact design that can be
installed in the light fixture housing. Current, voltage and power
factor are continuously monitored and logged. A built-in backup
astronomical clock provides switching after sunset and before
sunrise, even when disconnected from the rest of the system.
Pole Mounted Luminaire Controller
This controller contains two independent controllers with one
dimming output for both luminaires (loads), each individually
energy metered and ideal if more than one load is attached to
a pole, such as double brackets, festive lighting, advertising
signs, etc. The energy consumption of each output is individually
metered through Class 1 meters on board. Current, voltage and
power factor are also continuously monitored.
Segment Controller
A segment controller manages up to 150 luminaire controllers.
It collects the data through a ZigBee® self healing mesh network
and then transmits the data over the internet to the Owlet web
server. Data is securely exchanged through a VPN connection. The
controller can also acquire data from the meter for monitoring
energy usage billing purposes.
