Owlet | Smart control for efficient lighting

The Schrder Owlet solutions integrate the latest cuttingedge technology. The combination of LEDs and controlsystems makes it possible to achieve energy savingsof up to 85% compared with installations equipped withtraditional light sources.

Thanks to smart features such as Constant Light Output(compensation of the light output depreciation), VirtualPower Output (adapting the power output according tothe requirements) and Selective Dynamic Lumen Output(adapting to the real needs), Owlet control systemsavoid over-lighting and a waste of energy.

With this favourable energy balance, the Schrderapproach contributes to the effective management ofnances and to the responsible use of energy.

Diversions and the closure of roads during maintenanceoperations bring a whole series of inconveniences: lossof money and time, increase in distances travelled, dif-culties for residents, avoidable greenhouse gas emis-sions, etc. Thus it is very important to use modern toolsto manage a lighting installation in the most efcientway. By limiting maintenance operations, the SchrderOwlet solutions reduce operator bills and the frequencyof trafc disturbance.

The report features of our systems allow you to monitorand to assess your lighting installation independentlyand provide the necessary information to manage wiselyyour network throughout its lifetime.

When public spaces are not being used, lighting at fullpower is a pure waste of energy. Dimming scenarios andlight-on-demand features can adapt the lighting to thereal needs of the place and the time.

The Schrder Owlet range of control systems includesmotion detection sensors that can operate on eitherindividual lighting points or on a complete network.

Each luminaire level can be congured individually withseveral parameters such as minimum and maximum lightoutput, delay times from minimum to maximum andduration of ON/OFF times.

In addition, you can take control of your lighting instal-lation to adapt the parameters from time to time forspecial occasions.

By monitoring every single lighting point, the advancedSchrder Owlet systems prevent failure by detectingoperating issues (broken lamps, device temperature, surges). If problems arise, the system switches to adefault program ensuring that the lighting installationdoes not turn off. The Schrder Owlet systems is a user-friendly asset management interface allowing an opti-mised operational management of costs and services.

Interactivity:light only when necessaryTo adapt lighting to real needs, our solutions include sensors. They measure naturallight levels, movement or speed to provide light only where and when it is necessary. This feature enables you to avoid unnecessary lighting in favour of energy savings.

Daylight sensorsOur solutions can be managed by photoelectric sensorsthat switch on the luminaires exactly when natural lightbecomes insufcient (cloudy day, night fall) so as to

provide safety and well-being in the public space.

Movement sensorsIn non-linear activity areas (squares, car parks, resi-dential streets... places with a little nocturnal activity),the lighting can be dimmed to a minimum most of thetime. By using movement sensors, levels can be raisedas soon as a pedestrian or a slow vehicle is detectedin the area. This light-on-demand function enhances

the safety and the well-being of the users while savingenergy.

Speed and direction sensorsCompared to movement sensors, a speed (and direc-tion) sensor works with a wider detection area to clas-sify the identied moving item following its speedand its direction. This classication provides the right

response according to predened lighting scenarios.Solutions tted with speed and direction sensors oper-ate in large areas to ensure safety and well-being in themost sustainable way.

PhotocellPlaced on the top of the luminaire, an integrated photo-

cell switches it ON or OFF depending on the level ofnatural light. Each light point behaves independently. Aphotocell enables an out of the box installation withoutcommissioning. Thus it is very easy to retrot in existingluminaires.

Motion detection sensorsThe presence of people or vehicles is detected by motionsensors (infrared/microwaves). Besides reducing energyconsumption, this light-on-demand feature contributesto the safety of an area. Each sensor is set up to avoidunnecessary detection.

Intelligent driver with Constant LightOutput (CLO)To comply with required lighting levels, newly installedlamps emit more light than necessary in order to takeinto account the further depreciation of the ux. TheConstant Light Output (CLO) feature eliminates over-lighting and autonomously compensates the deprecia-tion.

Astronomical clock An integrated astronomical clock offers a constant adap-tation of the dimming prole according to the seasons. Itensures that the lighting meets the real needs every day.

Intelligent driver with scheduleddimming Intelligent drivers integrating optimum 5-level dimmingprograms can be incorporated into luminaires. The driv-ers work autonomously by taking switch-on and switch-offtimes as reference points.

To manage a communicating network To offer more exibility with stand-alone features and a wider scope of possibilities in terms of interaction, theSchrder Owlet range incorporates an Autonomous Network Dimming system.

Luminaires communicate together in a wireless network to offer dynamic prole dimming. The autonomous dimmingscenario can be enhanced with motion detection features. To pilot the installation, the sensors can be centralised ordecentralised. When motion is detected, the detection scenario supplants the dimming scenario in order to providesafety and comfort for the users.

LED Conversion ProgrammeSan Jos launched an innovative lighting plan to replaceits yellow sodium ttings with LED luminaires. Thisprogressive conversion started in 2011 with the goal ofchanging 62,000 luminaires by 2022. To be even moreefcient, the local authorities were keen to combine thenew lighting scheme with an adaptive control system. They were impressed by Owlets solutions and choseSchrder to help maximise energy savings. When thesolution is fully deployed, San Jos will have decreasedits energy consumption by more than 50%.

Reduced operational and maintenancecostsIn 2010, San Jos spent more than 6 million dollars onmaintenance operations. The city was forced to replaceor repair 13,000 luminaires. It was denitely time tothink differently. The local authorities decided to makeSan Jos smarter and more environmentally friendly byembracing advanced technology. San Jos has adoptedOwlet solutions to control, to metre and to monitor itslighting network in the most efcient way. Today, thecity has improved its asset management and is now ableto dim its lights in the late evening hours when there islittle or no trafc. The quality of lighting has improved, providing more safety and well-being for the inhabitants. At the same time, the energy bill and the CO2 emissionshave been signicantly reduced.
