CLUB COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT
From Community Service Chair Lori Villarreal: YMCA Play Day Well, the sun wasn't exactly out Wednesday, June 10th but the weather was fierce. The kids managed to find a safe spot in the YMCA gymnasium while Greg Moore, Jackie Barnett, Jeff Thomas, and Lori Villarreal served ice cream sundays. M&Ms, Gummy Worms and Nerds candy were piled high over chocolate and caramel sauces and more. Thank you for coming to play at the Richardson YMCA. Rotarians Pick A Cause Twenty-one grant applications were submitted for this unique opportunity. All grant applications had to be submitted by Rotarians naming a cause they would like their club to support. The ad hoc committee convenes later in the week with anticipated outcomes reported in the June 22nd meeting. Thank you for your participation.

NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT
From President Gene Ingram: Baseball, Fathers, Family and Raffles As we prepare to celebrate Fathers Day next weekend, our Rotary Family will meet in Frisco to share a family outing to the baseball game. Something tells me, there will be no shortage of hotdogs at the ballpark to be enjoyed. As we celebrate together as a Rotary Family, let’s remember our Dad’s too. I remember when my Dad took me to my first “real” baseball game as a small child to see the Chicago Cubs defeat the St. Louis Cardinals in Wrigley Field. The experience was one I will always remember. Another experience I will never forget was when my father loaded my belongings into his car and drove me out to Lubbock, Texas. After we arrived, we quickly unloaded my “things” through the blistering dry heat, up the stairs to my new “home”, a college dormitory. I walked with my Dad back to his car, he wished me good luck, gave me a hug and kiss and took off, leaving me standing there in conditions that felt like a giant blow dryer was blowing down on me from the heavens. But, I had worked hard and had pulled the pieces together to get an opportunity to attend college. The road was a hard one, but somehow I made it with the help of scholarships, hard work and God’s blessings. The Richardson Rotary Foundation was established to provide scholarships to outstanding Richardson graduates to Help Make Dreams Real of attending college. Each year selected students facing financial and often other hardships are given the opportunity to apply for these scholarships to help them continue their education at the college level. With just two weeks remaining to sell your raffle tickets, please remember that this important initiative can make the difference to a financially struggling student. If you prefer, simply make a financial donation to the Richardson Rotary Foundation. Your generous contributions will help extend our Richardson Rotary Family by contributing to Make Dreams Real, the Rotary Theme for 2008-2009.
