BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MANAGEMENT STAFF

Happy Fall! It was a great September at our club! From our largest couple’s glow ball night to a healthy schedule of private events, it was a

fun place to be all month long! The golf season isn’t over. I am excited for two new events this month; the “Hot Ball” and Cross Country Scramble! Keep those clubs handy and take ad-vantage of all the beauty fall golf provides! The golfing window is becoming noticeably shorter, but that makes us savor our time on the course even more. The date for our annual Men’s Stag Party and Auction has been set for Thursday, November 21

st! This year’s proceeds are be-

ing earmarked for new greens and grounds equipment. Last year’s event was the most successful in club history and we are looking forward to an even bigger and better year this year. Our fall wine dinner is also coming up Friday, November 8

th.

Our food and beverage team has spent time gathering feedback on past dinners and attended two wine dinners to learn from the best; one locally and one in the Twin Cities. Our goal is for our wine dinner to be considered one of the best as well. We hope you can join us! We are already in the planning process for next year. Dates are being set for club events, work has begun on the 2014 member-ship marketing strategy, and booking outside events is a priori-ty. A large part of the planning process requires us to look back at our performance this past year. Department heads along with our committees will review accomplishments, problem areas, systems, procedures, budgetary items, and membership feed-back. Preliminary departmental budgets and goals will be devel-oped and advanced to the board over the course of the next two months. As always, we value your feedback. If you have any ideas, sug-gestions, comments, or concerns please don’t hesitate to con-tact me anytime. We look forward to providing you with an ex-ceptional club experience! See you at your club, Joel

Fall is officially here and September has been a great month for golf so far! League concluded this month and we want to congratulate our Men’s Champions, “Team Noonan” who edged out the “Dew Sweepers” and ladies champions, the “Golf Bags” who defeated the “Fairway Gals.” Congratulations to all teams that made the playoffs and everyone who made league a success again this year! We look forward to another exciting season next spring! If you have any suggestions on how we can make it better, please let us know.

September also played host to our newly formatted Ladies Invitational which included several mem-bers and guests from all across the Dakota’s and western Minnesota. The format was a two person best ball and our own LeAnn Townsend and her partner Sue Kenney took home the win. We would also like to congrat-ulate and thank all of the ladies that represented our club well in Inter Club this year; Shelley Kappes, Wendy Frappier, Sheri Champ, Carol Morlock, Cindy Fisher, Dee Sandvig, Jane Mattson, Kristina Mattson, LeeAnn Townsend, Mae Tonsfeldt, Mary Johnson, Marie Talley, Rhonda Grenyo, Kerry Brothers & Rhonda Menze. Ox-bow won the summer long event for the second year in a row! It was Kristina Mattson’s first year playing in inter-club and she encourages other ladies to sign up next year. She said “Interclub gave me an opportunity to play courses I had never played & was also a great way to meet members from other clubs. I thoroughly en-joyed my first year experience, & hope those who have considered playing will join us next year.”

Our popular couple’s glow-ball tournament was held on September 13th with over 90 participants who came out on a beautiful evening. Congratulations to the winning team of Bryce & Kristina Mattson, Jim & Cas-sie Huesman and Kim & Shelley Kappes! The evening was a success with were no casualties and lots of good fun! On the 16th and 17th Oxbow played host to NDSU’s Erv Kaiser Golf tournament which was won by the Uni-versity of Manitoba. NDSU finished second as a team with Oxbow’s own Bill Carlson taking home the individual title! He was the only player in the field to finish the three round event under par. Congratulations Bill!nSeptember also featured the end of the year “Stag Day Derby.” Paul Benson defended his title holding off strong contenders Paul Hilt, and Bill Sholl who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Congratulations to all of our top ten finishers! Remember to get your team together for the Oxbow Hot Ball this weekend! Stop in or call the pro shop for more information and to sign up! While you’re in check out the new fall lineup of Paige & Tuttle orange and navy pullovers and polo’s featured on our front table. Don’t forget to use your credit before October 15th! Finally, congratulations to Paul Hilt for making a hole in one on hole #1 this past week! It is the first recorded hole in one on a par 4 in Oxbow’s history!

See you on the course!

Play Well, -JD

With staffing levels low this time of year our focus will be on mow-ing and mulching the falling leaves. The growth rate of the grass has started to slow down with the shortened day light hours and the leaf cleanup will keep us busy for the first half of October.

Winter preparations for the course will also begin soon. At the end of the month irrigation lines will be purged to prevent any ice damage from occurring. This pro-cess normally takes two days for a thorough job to be done. After the irrigation system is winterized. Snow mold protectants will be applied to the greens, tees and the fairways to help prevent fungus from causing damage during the snow cover. Sand topdressing will be applied to the greens to help insulate the crown of the grass plants from desiccating winter winds. Snow fence will be erected around all the exposed greens to collect snow for additional cover. The Board of Directors has approved the purchase of a winter green cover for the putting green. The last two springs we have had large areas that did not survive the winter. This cover will be large enough to cover the new and old part of the green. The upcoming Men’s Stag Night is always a great event for the club. This year’s proceeds will be allocated towards new equipment for the Grounds Department. Please come out and help by donating and purchasing some of the great items. We still have some great days for golf; hope to see you out here. David Wood
