HISTORIC INN & RESTAURANT

The Oxford House Inn is the third building on this site. The original structure was built inthe late 1700’s & served as a tavern & inn for guests including Daniel Webster andEastman Johnson. This burned down in 1887. A 100 room grand hotel, “The Oxford”, wasbuilt in 1894 for $20,000. It burned to the ground in 1906. The current building wasdesigned by renowned architect John Calvin Stevens and built in 1913 on part of theoriginal hotel’s foundation. The house was a private residence for Charles & Blanche Fox,lumber barons from Portland, ME. They resided until the late 1970’s, after which it wasbriefly the home of Dr. Bell’s family and medical practice. In 1985, John and Phyllis Morrisrenovated the building and opened The Oxford House Inn. They ran the inn until 2007,when is was purchased by current owners Natalie & Jonathan Spak from Salisbury, CT.We have many original photos, menus, brochures and artifacts from The Oxford and moreinformation is available at the Fryeburg Historical Society.
