Pool Information

Academy members are invited to go to the Memorial Pool any day that there is not a planned field trip for the Academy.

The Academy will be bringing members to Pool Orientation at the Memorial Pool from 9-11 AM on Tuesday, May 29 or Wednesday, May 30. During this time, Academy members will be learning about the rules and the different areas of the pool. This will help ensure safety for all of our Academy members. If you need to pick your child up from the Academy from 9 AM - 12 PM on either of these days, please let the front desk know that your child should not go to Pool Orientation.

At this time, the pool is tentatively scheduled to open on Friday, June 1. In order to go to the pool, members will need to have purchased a summer pass through the Summit Activities Center. The members Pool Pass # will need to be provided to the Academy and confirmed by the City of Yankton prior to attending pool excursions. Members will walk to the Memorial pool and escorted by Academy staff. For safety reasons, it is required that if youth walk to the pool with Academy staff, they must also walk back to the Academy with staff. This means that youth may not be picked up from the pool or walk home from the pool. Lifeguards will monitor all pool activities with the support of the Academy staff.

LUNCH INFORMATION The Academy Program will be collaborating with the Yankton School District to offer a lunch program at Stewart Elementary School beginning on Tuesday, May 29th and ending on Friday, July 27th. On the days the lunch program is not offered, youth will be provided a healthy lunch made by the Academy and pizza from Dominos on Friday (menu below). Lunch costs are included in the cost of membership. Lunch will be served between 11:00 AM - 12:00 AM, Monday-Friday. Youth who do not wish to eat Academy lunch may bring their lunch from home, but the Academy does not have a microwave or refrigerator space. Therefore, we request that you plan your child’s lunch accordingly and use cold packs and/or insulated lunch bags as appropriate. Due to severe peanut & tree nut allergies, The Academy strives to be nut-free program. Please do not send lunch or snack items with your child containing these ingredients.

Be a World Traveler! Tuesdays in June Explore different countries and cultures during our Be a World Traveler program! We will create a World Traveler Passport Book as we talk about 22 different countries. Writing and literacy activities will teach about peace and acceptance of other people’s differences. Math activities focus on different forms of transportation. Activities will be aligned with Kindergarten Common Core Standards.

A Bully or a Friend Mondays throughout the Summer

Interactive lessons will teach members about being a friend instead of a bully. We will think about the things we say, create rules for being a good friend, and learn how to stand up against bullying! Lessons will include writing and craft activities.

Brush Up…with Dental Health! Tuesdays in July Time to brush up on dental health knowledge with this unit for kindergarten and first grade! We will be doing reading, writing, math, science, and art activities all related to our teeth!
