PROGRAMS

Peace Essay ContestYoung peoplesubmitted essayson the theme"Inspiration for a Better World." Winnersreceived cash prizes and had theopportunity to read their essays onthe radio. RPEC's Peace EssayContest encourages young peopleto clarify and organize their thoughtabout a critical topic related topeace. By participating, the studentsexpand their own views on peaceand justice.

Global Peace ProjectsRPEC has a vision of a more peaceful world. In 2015 the Peace Center led apublic forum offering peace perspectives on the war in Iraq & Syria. The forumfeatured speakers Raed Jarrar and Larry Syvverson. The Peace Center alsosponsored a discussion of the book 'The Lemon Tree: An Arab, A Jew, and theHeart of the Middle East' and supported other programs to educate around theconflict in Israel-Palestine. In addition, the Peace Center urged support for theIran nuclear deal.

Each year, RPS reports hundreds of violent incidents,yet few programs empower youth to address theunderlying issues in their own communities.

RPEC is unique among local community organizations,using peer education to empower youth to work forpeace and community change.

and younger children using nonviolence and conflictresolution techniques they have learned.

Our leaders help us organize and lead everything fromregular monthly meetups, to regional youth events, andare given the opportunity to make their voices heard.
