2015 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS PLAYOFF NOTES

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Cleveland is back in the Eastern Conference Finals for the 5th time in franchise history (1976, 1992, 2007 & 2009). The Cavs are 79-80 all-time in the postseason, including 51-28 at home. Since 2006, the Cavs are 30-10 during the playoffs at Quicken Loans Arena.

DEFENSIVE TENACITY: The Cavaliers have displayed a strong defensive performance in this year’s playoffs, holding teams to under 100 points in nine of the 11

contests. Check out the Cavs overall defensive numbers so far in this year’s postseason: The Wine and Gold are giving up 92.3 points, which is the lowest in the playoffs.

Cleveland has the top defensive field goal percentage among all teams left in the playoffs (2nd overall) at .411. STOPPING THE BULLS: In the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Cleveland held Chicago to just .401 shooting from the field. The Cavs held Chicago to under .400 shooting in

each of the final four contests. The four consecutive games holding an opponent to under .400 shooting set a new franchise playoff record. The last team to hold an opponent to under .400 shooting in four or more consecutive playoff games was the Memphis Grizzlies (four straight from April 21-29, 2014). In Game 6, the Bulls scored 31 points in the first quarter but were held to just 42 points over the final three periods. The Bulls' 73 points represented the lowest total for any team in NBA history that scored at least 30 in the opening 12 minutes of a playoff game. The previous record was 78 by Detroit in a win over the 76ers in 2003. (Elias)

The Cavaliers are also allowing the lowest opponent three-point field goal percentage among all playoff teams at .292.

The Cavs lead all postseason teams in blocks per game at 7.3. The Cavs have two games with 10 or more blocks this playoffs (4/21 vs. CHI & 5/12 vs. CHI).

PROTECTING HOME COURT: Dating back to Jan. 19 of the 2014-15 regular season, the Cavs have won 24 of their last 26 games at The Q, which includes 17 of them

by a margin of victory of at least 10 points.

STAYING EXPLOSIVE: The Cavs have won 33 of their last 34 contests when reaching the century mark in scoring and hold a 47-5 mark when scoring at least 100 points since the beginning of the regular season. Also including the 2014-15 regular season and this year’s playoffs, Cleveland is undefeated at The Q when scoring at least 100 points (26-0) or shooting .400 or better from behind the arc (20-0).

ALL-AROUND NUMBERS: This postseason, LeBron James has seven double-doubles (tied-5th in NBA) and is leading the Cavs in points (26.9, 4th), rebounds (10.0, 12th), assists (7.7, 4th) and steals (1.8, 9th) to go along with 1.5 blocks.

20-5-5: LeBron James recorded his 100th career playoff game with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in the Game 1 win over Boston on April 19. He currently has 107 such games, which is the most by any player since 1984-85.

30-5-5: James has 52 career playoff games of at least 30 points, five rebounds and five assists, including four such games this postseason. His 52nd such game came in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Atlanta on May 20 (31 points/8 rebounds/6 assists), moving him past Michael Jordan (51) for the most in NBA playoff history.

30-POINT GAMES: James has 73 career playoff 30-point games, which ranks 5th all-time behind Michael Jordan (109), Kobe Bryant (88), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (75) & Jerry West (74).

OUTRIGHT LEADER: James has been his team’s outright leader in points, rebounds and assists in 33 postseason games. The Elias Sports Bureau notes that’s the most all time, 20 more than the player with the next-most, Larry Bird with 13.

BULLS EYE: In the six games against Chicago in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, LeBron James averaged 26.2 points, 11.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists to go along with five double-doubles. He became the first player since Magic Johnson in 1991 to finish a series with averages of 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. (Elias)

38-12-6-3-3 & ZERO TURNOVERS: In Game 5 of the Semifinals against Chicago, James registered 38 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, three steals, three blocks and zero turnovers in 41 minutes. James became just the third player in NBA postseason history to record at least 35 points, 10 boards, five assists, three steals and three blocks in a playoff game, joining Dwayne Wade (at Dallas 6/20/2006) and Elvin Hayes (vs. Buffalo 4/20/1975). Since the league began recording turnovers in 1977-78, James is the only NBA player in playoff history to record that stat line while also having zero turnovers. It was the 3rd time that James scored at least 35 points and did not commit a turnover in an playoff game (38 pts against Pistons in 2009 and 35 pts vs. Celtics in 2011). No other active NBA player has more than one such game in the playoffs.

POINTS IN BUNCHES OVER BOSTON: In the First Round series against Boston, James averaged 27.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.5 blocks in 43.0 minutes per game. With 108 total points in the series, James has scored 831 career postseason points against the Celtics. The only other players to score at least 800 playoff points against Boston are Wilt Chamberlain (1,260), Jerry West (1,254) and Elgin Baylor (1,036). (Elias Sports Bureau)

LEBRON MOVING ON UP PLAYOFF STYLE: For his postseason career, LeBron James has appeared in 169 playoff contests (all starts) with averages of 27.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.7 steals in 42.4 minutes per game. No other player in NBA playoff history (min. 20 games) has ever averaged 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. Among the NBA’s all-time postseason leaders, James is in the Top 10 in triple-doubles (11, tied-1st), scoring average (27.9, 5th), points (4,715, 7th), field goals made (1,634, 7th), free throws made (1,210, 5th), assists (1,104, 4th), steals (292, 9th) and three-pointers made (237, 9th). 2015 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS PLAYOFF NOTES (CONT.)

JAMES' BUZZER-BEATER: In Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Chicago on May 10, LeBron James drained a 21-foot

baseline jumper as time expired to give the Cavs an 86-84 victory. It was James’ third career playoff buzzer-beater, the most by any player in the past 15 years. He also has the same number of game-winning buzzer-beaters in the playoffs as Michael Jordan had in his career. Overall, James has four career game-winning buzzer-beaters (1/23/09 at GSW). (Elias Sports Bureau)

CAVS ALL-TIME PLAYOFF LEADER: LeBron James is the franchise playoff leader in games played (82), points (2,377), scoring average (29.0), field goals made (805) and attempted (1,773), three-point field goals made (114) and attempted (388), free throws made (653) and attempted (875), assists (605), steals (137), defensive rebounds (593) and minutes (3,544).

GAMES PLAYED: James surpassed Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anderson Varejao for sole possession in postseason games played in franchise history as his first appearance this year was his 72

nd playoff game in a Cavaliers uniform (Game 1 of the First Round vs. BOS on April 19).

OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS: James moved into 4th

in Cavs playoff history in offensive rebounds during Game 3 at Boston (First Round) on April 23, passing John Williams (99). He then moved into 3rd place in team playoff history in offensive rebounds in Game 4 at Chicago (Second Round) on May 10, passing Larry Nance (110).

BLOCKS: After swatting a pair of shots in Game 6 at Chicago (Second Round) on May 14, James passed Zydrunas Ilgauskas (82) for 2nd in Cavs postseason history in blocks. With 84, he is closing in on Larry Nance (93) for the most blocks in franchise playoff history.

PLAYING LIKE HE’S BEEN HERE BEFORE: Kyrie Irving has scored in double figures in 10 of 11 career playoff games, including six 20-point performances. He is also shooting a team-high .469 (23-49) from the three-point line in this year’s postseason.

BLOCKS AND POINTS: Kyrie rving has swatted at least one shot in eight of the 11 playoff games, while also scoring 56 points in his first two playoff contests as a Cavalier (April 19-21). Only LeBron James (58 points in 2006) scored more points in his first two playoff games wearing a Wine and Gold jersey.

FIRST ROUND NUMBERS: In the 4-0 series sweep over Boston in the First Round, Kyrie Irving shot .480 (12-25) from the three-point line and averaged 23.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 block in 40.5 minutes.

EFFICIENT GAME: In Game 2 against Chicago on May 6, Irving had 21 points on just nine field goal attempts, becoming the first Cavaliers player since Daniel Gibson in Game 6 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals versus the Pistons to record 20 or more points on nine or fewer field-goal attempts in a playoff game (Gibson had 31 points on 9 FGA).

DYNAMIC DUO: This postseason, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are averaging a combined 45.8 points and have each scored 20-or-more points in the same game five times in the 2015 Playoffs (5-0).

In the First Round, Kyrie Irving (23.3 ppg/5.0 rpg/4.3 apg/1.0 spg/1.0 bpg) and LeBron James (27.0 ppg/9.0 rpg/6.5 apg/2.3 spg/1.5 bpg) averaged a combined 50.3 points, 14.0 rebounds, 10.8 assists, 3.3 steals and 2.5 blocks, while also scoring or assisting on 22 of 23 Cleveland baskets in the fourth quarter the last three games of the series. They are the first Cavs duo to each average at least 20.0 points in a series since Brad Daughtery (25.5) and Mark Price (21.3) in the first round of the 1992 playoffs (3-1 series victory over the Nets).

In Game 2 of the First Round against Boston on April 21, LeBron James (30 pts/9 rebs/7 asts) and Kyrie Irving (26 pts/5 rebs/6 asts) became the first duo in Cavaliers history to each tally at least 25 points, five rebounds and five assists in a postseason contest.

DOING THE DIRTY WORK: In his first career postseason, Tristan Thompson is averaging 9.5 rebounds (2nd-best on the team), to go along with 9.0 points on .583

shooting in 33.3 minutes per game. As a starter this postseason (last six games), he has four double-doubles and is averaging 11.0 points on .568 shooting, 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 37.8 minutes.

In the Game 6 victory against Chicago on May 14, Thompson had 13 points, 17 rebounds (six offensive) and two blocks in 40 minutes of work. He became just the third Cavs player to put up at least 13 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks in a playoff game in team history (Brad Daugherty on 5/9/93 vs. NJ and Zydrunas Ilgauskas on 4/30/07 vs. WAS).

SWISH SETS FRANCHISE 3-POINT RECORD: In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Atlanta on May 20, J.R. Smith set a Cavaliers playoff record for three-pointers in a game after going 8-12 (.667) from beyond the arc, while tallying a postseason career-best 28 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 36 minutes off the bench. The previous record was held by LeBron James, who hit seven triples on April 30, 2006 at Washington. Smith's eight three-point field goals are the 2nd-most by a non-starter in an NBA playoff game (Jason Terry hit 9 3FGM against LAL on 5/8/2011). (Elias)

Since coming off the bench (last five playoff games), Smith is averaging 15.8 points on .538 shooting, including .513 (20-39) from the three-point line, and 4.8 rebounds in 30.4 minutes per game.

HOTLINE: This postseason, the Cavs are shooting .787 from the free throw line, which ranks 1st among teams currently in the playoffs. The Cavs have shot at least .900

from the charity stripe on three occasions so far.

In Game 2 of the First Round against Boston on April 21, the Cavs shot 24-26 (.923) from the charity stripe, which was their highest free throw percentage with at least 26 free throw attempts in a playoff game since May 15, 1992 against Boston (.929, 26-28).

In Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Chicago on May 10, Cleveland shot 23-24 (.958) from the foul line, which ties their highest free throw percentage with at least 20 attempts in franchise playoff history (also 23-24, .958 FT% vs. Detroit on April 26, 2009).

DELLY DISH: In Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Chicago on May 6, Matthew Dellavedova came off the bench and dished out a playoff-career high

nine assists and scored nine points in 36 minutes. His nine assists off the bench established a franchise record for most assists in a playoff game by a reserve. The previous record was eight assists by Darnell Valentine on May 3, 1989 at Chicago. (Elias Sports Bureau)

FOUR DOUBLE-DOUBLES: In Game 4 of the First Round at Boston on April 26, Kyrie Irving (24 pts/11 rebs), LeBron James (27 pts/10 rebs), Timofey Mozgov (12 pts/11

rebs) and Iman Shumpert (15 pts/10 rebs) each had points-rebounds double-doubles. (Elias Sports Bureau)

It was the 1st time in team playoff history that four Cavs players posted points-rebounds double-doubles in a single game.

It was only the 2nd time in team playoff history four Cavs players notched a double-double of any type, with the only other time being May 1, 1993 against the Nets in Game 2 of the First Round (Brad Daugherty, Larry Nance, Mark Price and John Williams)

The last time any team had at least four players with double doubles in a playoff game was May 14, 2004 when the Pistons accomplished that feat against the Nets in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals (Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace, and Rasheed Wallace).

They are the first quartet of teammates to each grab ten or more rebounds in an NBA playoff game since May 15, 2007 when Utah’s Andrei Kirilenko, Carlos Boozer, Paul Millsap and Mehmet Okur did so in a second-round series-clinching victory over the Warriors.

The Cavs are the first team to have four players post double-doubles with points and rebounds in an NBA playoff game since 2002 when the Lakers' Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, Robert Horry and Rick Fox did it to eliminate the Kings in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.

STRONG POSTSEASON DEBUTS: In the win over Boston in Game 1 of the First Round on April 19, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson each had strong

playoff debuts.

In his first career playoff appearance, Kyrie Irving registered a game-high 30 points on 11-21 (.524) shooting from the field, including 5-9 (.556) from three-point range, in 41 minutes of play. He became the first player in NBA history to record 30 points and five three-pointers in a postseason debut. Irving’s 30 points are the 2nd-most points scored by a Cavalier in their playoff debut (LeBron James 32, 4/22/2006 vs. WAS). He also became the first Cavalier to hit at least five three-pointers in his first postseason contest.

Kevin Love recorded a double-double in his first career playoff appearance after finishing with 19 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, four assists and one steal in 33 minutes. Love is the first Cavs player to tally at least 19 points and 12 rebounds in their playoff debut and the first Cavs player to post a double-double in his first postseason game since LeBron James in 2006.

Tristan Thompson had a solid first playoff game with 12 points on 4-6 (.667) shooting from the field and six rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.
