PACKAGE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTSFeaturing Norweco’s exclusiveModulair® concept designedfor today’s needs-tomorrow’s growth
NORWECO’S MODULAIR® WASTEWATERTREATMENT SYSTEM
Norweco wastewater treatment plants employ a biologicalprocess known as “extended aeration” or “aerobic digestion.” Inthis process wastewater passes through a series of progressivetreatment stages.
Incoming sewage first passes through a pre-treatment device.Pre-treatment is used to physically break down the sewage andtrap untreatable material before it can enter the aeration chamberof the treatment plant. There are three types of pre-treatmentdevices – bar screens, comminutors and trash traps. Bar screensstrain or screen incoming sewage. Comminutors screen and grindthe sewage before passing it to the aeration chamber. Trash trapsare holding tanks used to settle out untreatable material andbiochemically break down organic solids before passing them tothe aeration chamber.
The second step in the treatment process is aeration. Pre-treatedliquids enter the aeration chamber where they are thoroughlymixed and aerated with large volumes of air. Aerobic bacteria, present in the aeration chamber, use the oxygen transferred fromthe air to convert the sewage to clear, odorless liquids and gases. To obtain such complete treatment in just twenty-four hours it isnecessary to provide just the right environment for the bacteria. This is accomplished by the controlled introduction of oxygen intothe chamber. Norweco’s unique “Evenair” diffusers are designedjust for this purpose. They are installed in the bottom of the cham-ber to provide even distribution of oxygen into the aeration tank.Stimulated by the abundant supply of oxygen, the bacteria multiplyrapidly and are thoroughly mixed with the tank contents to insurecomplete oxidation of all organic material.
After twenty-four hours in the aeration chamber the liquid flowsinto the settling/clarification chamber where the final phase oftreatment takes place. In this chamber there is no mixing; theliquids are kept perfectly still so suspended particles can settle andbe pumped back to the aeration chamber for final treatment. Thisprocess of removing the activated sludge and suspended particlesfrom the liquid leaves a clear, highly treated water at the top of thechamber for discharge from the system.
MODULAIR® OPERATION
A complete comprehensive OPERATOR’S MANUAL is supplied witheach system. This manual, along with periodic inspections by a Norwecofield technician, provides complete training of the plant operator, eliminatesall guesswork and insures highly efficient operation.

WARRANTY
All Norweco, Inc. wastewater treatment systems include a singlesource one year warranty and service policy. The equipment is warran-ted against defective materials and workmanship, under normal useand service, for a period of one year. The warranty is limited to thereplacement of any item that proves to be defective during the firstyear. Repair charges will apply if the equipment had been disassembledby unauthorized persons, subjected to external damage, improperlywired or flooded.
The initial one year warranty and service policy includes periodicservice inspections. Operators are instructed regarding routineoperation and maintenance of the equipment during each inspection. The warranty and service policy are designed to provide single sourcereliability for all equipment. Your complete Norweco Modulairwastewater treatment system is covered by the warranty and serviceprogram.
NORWECO’S MODULAIR®
CONCEPT - SATISFIESTODAY’S NEEDS -AND TOMORROWS . . .
Heavy duty reinforced concrete tank modulesprovide flexibility with each installation. They alsoprovide complete capability for adding future units.
Norweco’s Modulair sections utilize a speciallydesigned neoprene sealing gasket with tongue andgroove joint to insure a positive tank seal andrugged structural stability. Sections are transportedto the jobsite separately and set together to providea completed tank. Each casting is a monolithic unitwith no horizontal or vertical joints. All four walls ofthe tank are incorporated into each Modulair sec-tion.
Each module has all internal walls and bafflescast-in as an integral part of the tank. There are noslide in concrete or fiberglass baffles. There are noinserts or brackets fastened to tank walls below thesurface of the liquid. Transfer ports and pipe holesare cast-in each section where needed. Thegasketed tongue and groove joint runs the full widthand length of each section to lock togetheradjoining Modulair units. As an added feature - asecondary seal is installed inside the tank over theprimary seal. The castings themselves providestructural stability that is unmatched by poured-in-place concrete or steel tanks.
YOUR LOCAL EXPERTFuture expansion or modification of the system is
often of prime importance. Physical tankarrangement and knock-outs may be included ormodified wherever needed for future requirements. They can be installed to accommodate any sizeplumbing or component and will minimize ex-pansion costs.
Mechanical equipment, pumps and controls arealso important factors when considering an ex-pansion. In many cases it is possible to provideequipment for the original installation that will becapable of serving the expansion.
Your local, licensed Norweco distributor has acomplete understanding of the products and theirapplication. He is well trained and able to capablyhelp you plan for your current as well as futureneeds.
Developed by Norweco . . . the Modulair conceptis the most reliable, maintenance-free method ofwastewater treatment available today.
• Monolithic concrete tank - common onlyto the Modulair system. Eliminates theneed for a poured-in-place foundationslab in the excavation prior to installation.
• Duplex mechanical equipment - each unitcapable of operating the entire system.Virtually eliminates plant down time.
• Central control panel - permits automaticalternation and operation. Places all con-trols at your fingertips.
• Weatherproof equipment cabinet -protects motors, blowers, filters and otherequipment.
• Non-clog Evenair™ diffusers - eliminatesperiodic cleaning - reduces plant main-tenance.
• Non-corrosive precast concrete tanks -no tank pumping and repainting, noanode packs.
• Air-lift surface skimmer - supplied witheach system to simplify maintenance.
• Adjustable effluent weir - permits easyleveling from end to end and side to side.
• Master keyed locks - one key opens alllocks on duplex cabinets, controls, coversand related equipment.
• Galvanized steel grating - provides com-plete safety, allows full access to equip-ment.
• Modulair plant concept - system may beenlarged or modified - complete futureflexibility.
