In the Story of Stuff it was explained that the current method of production and consumption does not help the environment which it got the resources from. Moreover the corporations abuse the environment by not providing sustainability efforts to replenish the resources that they procured for the production of their product. In that first step explained in the video the main lesson I learned from that step is that to maintain the environment that you work in and work with. This key to any business may it be in the retail sector or in the manufacturing sector as it helps the company develop better relations with it customers in that area and the inhabitants in that area. For example a foreign corporation moves in to Philippines to set up a mining facility here that company must take care of the inhabitants in the immediate areas that may be affected by mining operations and when mining resources are depleted they must provide the area with rehabilitation fund and plan for them adjust to area. The second part of the video focused on the production of the items often with corrosive chemicals that harm the potential consumers and directly affects the factory workers that deal with the product on hands on basis. A lesson that I gained from that part is that companies focus on the product rather than the human aspect of it all. The workers and consumers, the workers must be taken care as they have the first contact with product and help with the products creation. The workers must not be exposed to elements that are adverse to their health. In the third and fourth part of the video centers around distribution and consumption of the product, here we see the effect of consumerism to the people. We as consumers we buy products but sometimes we are a part of the cycle that contributes to negative culture. There is nothing wrong about gaining profit but there is something wrong when it is the primary consideration for everything and that is apparent in corporations. So now we have countless amounts of products with the same use and few consumers. We as consumers are contributing to a negative culture that are happiness hinges upon the item advertised on the television sets and on the things our friends have for us to fit in. The lesson is that I as a person apply the concept that I should only buy items that I need for me to help the environment and also help myself by not spending money and putting it to use for other important things. It is hard to apply that lesson but I need to make small steps like ascertain which things do I value the most is it the material aspect or the value aspect. The last part of the video focused on the garbage incurred by us in this type of consumption. The old method is that of landfills and burning of garbage. The former method is not sustainable so we need to use more sustainable methods like recycling and purposing materials for it not to contribute to the mountain of garbage incurred by us. This is to prevent environmental problems like climate change to happen or affect us in the near future. The main lesson is to help the environment now by using small steps like recycling and lessening consumption. In the triple bottom line framework the main thrust is people, planet and profit. These aspects could work harmoniously by applying more sustainable methods that could help the environment the people around us that are affected or maybe affected by the old system. By using the triple bottom line framework we can move to more sustainable business model that is good for the environment and profit based. It could be seen in projects like social entrepreneurship. We can move a better future by applying this framework as it puts the planet in a better place for people and in turn for people to profit.
