Sons of Confederate Veterans Charge

To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication

of the Cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the

defense of the Confederate soldier’s good name, the guardianship of

his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those

principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals

which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is

your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to

future generations.

I want to greet all of our members, and to express how honored I am for your service to this camp, and to the cause for which we are called to honor our Confederate ancestors. For our camp to go further into the future we are going to need maximum efforts by all of us to recruit more members. I have some new ideas that I will offer to the camp for some programs in the community to have a speaker talk about Confederate history. Our camp could sponsor an event maybe in the early fall.

I would also like to say that our Texas Division needs for the members to be tolerant of our individual differences within our organization, in order to advance to cause to honor our Confederate Veterans. Our society at this time is very intolerant of opinions and beliefs, and disrespect to others that leads to divisions. I have these concerns in recent months outside of our camp. I AM GLAD THAT OUR GROUP OF MEN IN OUR CAMP RESPECTS EACH OTHER.

This is a short report and I hope each of you are doing well, and look forward to our meetings

Thanks Gary Holly Camp commander

Let’s start working on scheduling grave surveying when it gets cooler.

We all know that the summer is not the best time to be out in the heat.

While we are not out in the heat, let’s remember that we still can be

active in the community. Remember the charge….It is your duty to see

that the true history of the South is presented to future generations.

Friends, let me say that as of this writing, the men of the “Scurry Camp” are in

fairly good health. If anyone of our number is in the hospital, I am not aware

of it.

Past Commander Haynes was back in for some more tests and another procedure on his leg recently. All is well, and he is on the

mend. Chaplain Loyd appears

to be doing well, and is only suffering from the drought. Mickey Croxton has had

a few problems, but I understand he is better. Compatriot James Brock has had

some tests done in Lubbock, but no reports at this time. I think that compatriot

Kent Neville is recovering well from knee surgery. We are not young men!

Please remember men that our physical health is of utmost concern, but our

spiritual health is also of great concern. The good Lord can give us the wisdom, courage, and spiritual strength to overcome and

win the battle over ignorance,

bigotry, and hatred which we fight daily.

Let me paraphrase: Chaplain J. J. Renfroe 10th Alabama Infantry in his sermon on

August 21st 1863. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, will pray, seek my face, and turn from

their wicked ways, I will hear

them from Heaven, forgive their sins and heal their broken land.” Let us always

be mindful of the Lord's wishes for us.
