God is deploying a force in this battle to make the obedience of the nations His. It is the same force that He deployed in Acts and throughout history since then. It is His force of laymen and women who deliberately move (or are moved!) out of the cozy confines of their Christian culture to take the light of the Gospel to the dark corners of the earth. In our age of globalization, it is really not that complicated. Many of us have training and skills that are prized in other countries. Doctors, engineers, teachers, IT professionals, environmentalists, English speakers, managers, etc. American employees are actually in high demand in many countries. Have you thought about simply taking the “candle” of your skills and moving it to the dark third of the world – simply by being transferred through your company or switching to a company in need of your skills? You could become a global professional—for the cause of Christ—and part of the new DELTA Force we are launching as part of REACH|13. What does DELTA stand for?

DEPLOYED You’re not just haphazardly moving around, you relocate intentionally and under the authority of your sending church. ENGAGED Your goal is to connect with your target people with the view to sharing Christ with them, bringing them to faith, and involving them in the local church. LEAST-REACHED Go specifically to the 2.7 billion “unreached” people in people groups whose evangelical population is less than 2%. TRAINED Before you deploy, you’ll be trained to understand and share the Gospel effectively with your target people. ACCOUNTABLE Be commissioned by the church, operate under the authority of the church, and be encouraged and held accountable to your Barnabas team. How do you join the DELTA Force? Start by meeting with Nate Irwin, Pastor of Global Outreach ([email protected]). He will walk with you through the process and can help you find the training you’ll need to be prepared to do ministry in your target area. As you get closer to leaving, pull together some of your closest friends into a Barnabas team and commit to the memorandum of understanding with the church. We will commission you for your assignment in the dark third of the world during a church worship service. Start your journey and listen for more during REACH|13.

MORE INFO

Well, you might be surprised to know that the children of College Park know a lot more about God’s global work through missions than most adults! And frankly, we think that that is a pretty good thing.

Every October, our whole church gets the opportunity to be exposed to the global work of God through our three week missions emphasis called REACH. And we want to our kids to catch this global vision as well. That is why we have kidREACH, a kids’ experience that echoes the emphasis our adults are getting throughout the month.

This year’s kidREACH|13 involves two elements:

On Saturday October 19, our kidREACH Global Festival will provide kids and families interactive encounters with four foreign countries in transformed church spaces. Kids from our church and community can take a mission trip around the world without leaving our church building. Families will also get to picnic, fellowship, and play outdoor activities together!

On the three Sundays of REACH, our Elementary Sunday School classes will have their own in-class “kidREACH Nuggets:” dramatic presentations about missions, missionaries, and their place in God’s worldwide work!

We want our church to be filled with men and women who are praying for, supporting, and spreading the Gospel around the world: and our kids should be a part of that too. Don’t miss the opportunities that our kids have to see and enter into God’s global work this October!

SITTING BACKAND WATCHING IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

Modern television is filled with reality programs. A viewer can flip on the TV, experience average people in exotic locales, and vicariously live through the strangers who appear on the screen.

Yet sitting back and watching is not for everyone…there are those who don’t just want to watch, they are called to do. College Park Church offers a number of opportunities for people to step out of their personal comfort zone, and travel to a mission area on a Vision Trip.

What is a Vision Trip? Let’s turn to those who know to explain

While leading Vision Trips in April and June to La Concha Nicaragua I observed God’s grace and glory in new ways:

A group of College Park women and the local church experiencing community while helping the pastor’s wife organize a first ever community cook-off competition

A College Park family sharing the power of prayer as they saw God’s hand of protection for a sponsored child while visiting the child’s home and family

The team dynamics and bonding that comes from building a water capture system; seeing

GLOBAL OUTREACH

College Park team men, women, families, together experiencing ministry in a foreign culture

Growing closer to my wife and our children as we participated in ministry together

The amazing new friendships I developed have been a unanticipated blessing. We see each other in church, continue to tell stories, and remember sharing the emotions and blessings each evening on the Vision Trip. I am thankful for being a part of the Vision Trip planning and organization done by College Park and hope every member has an opportunity to be a part of a Vision Team. DOUG ALLGOOD

This past March, eighteen College Parkers spent one week in the Caspian, but our journey to get there was much longer. As group we began meeting two months before, to prayerfully prepare for the work that the Lord had for us. We faced obstacles

when we entered the country and were forced to change our plans. While there we spent a week in the capital city reaching out to students in coffee shops, schools, and on the streets. By God’s grace, the gospel was shared with over 20 students, many of whom live among an unreached Muslim people group. Some of these students heard the message of salvation for the first time. This trip was a spring board for all eighteen members of our team into future ministry, prayer, and giving to the unreached. The love of Christ compels us to give up our lives in order to find them in Christ. JESSE BEER

LOCAL OUTREACH

The Midwest Food Bank is one of College Park Church’s strategic local outreach partners. This ministry began in 2003 with a family providing food out of their barn in Illinois to surrounding counties. Today, the Midwest Food Bank serves over 500 organizations in the Midwest, the food they give out reaches over 100,000 people each month, and they’ve even been able to provide food and aid to other countries. God has truly blessed this ministry, and its leaders are quick to give Him the glory for it. As a faith-based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to alleviate hunger and poverty by gathering and distributing food donations to not-for-profits and disaster sites without cost to the recipients. Each month they distribute over $1,000,000 worth of food to ministries, churches, and organizations that are then able to distribute the food to those who need it most in their area. If you would like to give to or help serve the Midwest Food Bank please contact Donna Kakavecos at [email protected]

You can support Midwest Food Bank this November 3 at a special benefit concert featuring Selah and the Annie Moses Band. Learn more & purchase tickets at yourchurch.com/midwestfoodbankbenefitconcert

As the mother of 6-year-old twins, Mandy was having a rough morning. Her son Brandon and daughter Abby had been rambunctious and constantly tormenting each other. It was now just 20 minutes until soccer practice, and the drive alone took over 15 minutes. Mandy rushed to get everything ready.

“Lets go…” Mandy said. However, the kids were bouncing around everywhere except where they should be. “Guys, we have to go NOW!”

Although the kids began to move towards the vehicle, they both began arguing as she tried to buckle them in their respective seats. At this point Mandy was certain she was going to lose her temper. Just then, she remembered Pastor Mark’s sermon about anger and the story of his wife Sarah.

“Grace….grace….grace….grace…” Mandy quietly said to herself.

Suddenly, Abby’s eyes got big and she shot her brother a warning look. Both children sat quietly at attention while their mother buckled them in. Although startled at the sudden change, Mandy focused on the task at hand and soon was on the road towards practice.

Despite being very thankful for the answered prayer, her curiosity as to how it happened kept growing. After a minute or so, Mandy had to ask.

“Abby, Brandon, just a minute ago you guys suddenly stopped arguing and began acting better….what happened?”

Both twins looked at each other and then Abby said, “Well Mom, we really weren’t listening, but once you started talking about trading us for our neighbor Grace, we knew we better be good!“
