Other January 2011 happenings ...• Joint Base San Antonio-

Randolph entry controllers began scanning all ID cards using the Defense Biometric Identification System this week. DBIDS is used for accountability and activity of those gaining entrance to the base.

• The Air Education and Training Command third floor conference room was dedicated to a 43-year servant of the Air Force, James Robinson, AETC deputy chief of the resources and requirements division.

• Wellness Wars, a 12-week challenge that began Jan. 17, 2011, is designed to encourage healthy lifestyle changes such as physical activity and fruit and

vegetable consumption that will help participants lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

• Chemicals used to make the synthetic cannabis known as Spice, or K-2, were added to the controlled substance list by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Admin-istration under an emergency scheduling authority.

• Leaders implementing the federal government’s new consumer protection agency met with Joint Base San Anto-nio service members Jan. 18 at the Gateway Club to discuss the unique financial issues facing military families.

• Members from the Air Force Recruiting Service hosted “Recruit the Recruiter” Jan. 27 at the base theater.

tary force management programs Feb. 2 to reduce personnel.

• Gen. Edward A. Rice Jr., Air Education and Training Command commander, visited the 12th Flying Training Wing Feb. 3 for an orientation as he began his command.

• Playing their best game of the season, the Randolph Ramblers held off the Fort Sam Houston Rangers 92-90 to win the Rangers’ basketball tournament.

• The Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Rising 5/6 hosted the first Joint Base San Antonio Dodgeball Tournament at the Ram-bler Fitness Center Feb. 25.

San Antonio sexual assault response coordinator, was recognized by the Department of Justice for outstand-ing work on behalf of crime victims during the National Crime Victims’ Service Awards ceremony April 8 in Washington, D.C.

• Members of the U.S. Air Forces Escape and Evasion Society, allied air-men who were forced behind enemy lines and avoided captivity or escaped from captivity, visited Joint Base San

Antonio-Randolph and JBSA-Lackland April 15, a highlight of their four-day reunion in San Antonio.

• Staff Sgt. John Hatzidakis, a pararescue instructor with the 342nd Training Squadron, received the Distin-guished Flying Cross with valor during a ceremony at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland April 18.

• April 29 was a green day at JBSA-Randolph Elementary School, where dozens of second- and third-graders donning Earth Day T-shirts celebrated Arbor Day and the planting of a tree.

Other May 2011 happenings ...• Air Force officials announced

May 2 that Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph is the preferred location for consolidation of the Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals’ training units. The Air Force is closing IFF units at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, and Vance Air Force Base, Okla., as part of actions to consoli-date the IFF training mission from five locations to three.

• A group of 15 former military aviators gathered May 10 to salute

one of their own – Lt. George E. M. Kelly. Kelly was the first member of the U.S. military killed in the crash of an airplane he was piloting May 10, 1911. In 1917, a new flying field south of San Antonio was named Kelly Field in his honor.

• Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph and the rest of the Air Education and Training Command installations hoped to duplicate last year’s success – a fatality-free summer – as this year's Critical Days of Summer safety cam-paign began May 20.

• The 12th Operations Group earned an

“Outstanding” grade on its 2011 Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation Visit inspec-tion June 6-10.

• Members of the 81st Tactical Fighter Squadron (Wild Weasels) gathered with mem-bers of the 435th Fighter Training Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph during the the 81st TFS reunion June 17.

Center softball team took the championship trophy at the base’s intramural softball cham-pionships July 13. AFPC’s team was undefeated.

• The Air Force’s instruction on dress and personal appear-ance received an upgrade with the release of the updated instruction July 18.

• Joint Base San Antonio leaders asked the base com-munity to step up efforts to conserve energy – not just for this year, but continuously – to contribute toward a cultural

change in conservation.• Air Force officials named

the Joint Base San Antonio-Ran-dolph Bowling Center the best bowling center in the Air Force in 2010.

• The 12th Flying Training Wing hosted 13 U.S. Air Force Academy cadets as part of the Operation Air Force summer program from June 19 to July 7 and July 10-28.

• Members of the 435th Fighter Training Squadron be-came the aggressors during the last week of July at Dissimilar Air Combat Training in Jack-sonville, Fla.

Special Needs Resource Fair and Activ-ity Day at Morgan’s Wonderland Aug. 5 offered special-needs families from JBSA installations an opportunity to learn about programs that meet their needs and enjoy the rides, games and other features of a

25-acre facility billed as “the world’s first ultra-accessible family fun park.”

• Col. Richard Murphy, 12th Flying Training Wing commander, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesite of former U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson Aug. 27, during President Johnson's annual birthday ob-servance at the LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, Texas.

359th Medical Group superintendent, was awarded the Bronze Star Sept. 1.

• Joint Base San Antonio senior leaders kicked off the 2011 Combined Federal Campaign during a ceremony Sept. 7.

• To remember those who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001, Joint Base San Anto-nio military installations and organizations from the greater San Antonio area hosted many commemorative events.

• The 12th Flying Training Wing and the base community gathered Sept. 16 to pay tribute to all Americans who suf-fered as POWs in distant lands and those who are still missing in action during the National POW/MIA Recognition Day Cer-emony at the Missing Man Monument at JBSA-Randolph. The ceremony honored the Freedom Flyers, the Air Force pilots who endured the horrors of prisoner-of-war camps like the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” during the Vietnam War.

energy awareness mascot, made his debut Oct. 3 as Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph kicked off Energy Awareness Month.

• The 12th Flying Training Wing received the first two of 20 T-38C Talons from the 47th Flying Train-ing Wing at Laughlin AFB, Texas, Oct. 4.

• During Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 11-15, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Fire Emergency Services

teamed up with the National Fire Protection Association to spread the word on fire safety, urging people to protect their homes and families.

• The Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Airman’s Council volun-teered at a basketball tournament for Wounded Warriors Oct. 15-16 at the Jimmy Brought Fitness Center on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.

• Joint Base San Antonio-Ran-dolph hosted its 2011 Airshow Oct. 29-30. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels were the main attraction.

took first place in the Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Intramural Flag Football Tournament for the third year in a row Nov. 1. The Med Group advanced to the JBSA tournament at JBSA-Lackland, where the 359th MDG took the second-place trophy.

• Air Force Staff Sgt. April DeLuna, Provin-cial Reconstruction Team Paktya medic, from Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, received an Air Force Achievement Medal Nov. 4.

• The Defense Lodging System began offering online reservations and a feature that allowed customers to leave online feedback about their stay at any of the Air Force lodging facilities.

San Antonio commander, Chaplain (Col.) Paul Cannon, JBSA Wing chaplain, and Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Robert Wido, JBSA instal-lation chaplain, officially opened the recent-ly renovated Chapel 1 at JBSA-Randolph during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Dec. 2.

• The 558th Flying Training Squadron hon-ored one of its own when members dedicated

the Capt. Benjamin F. Danielson Auditorium in a ceremony Dec. 2.

• The Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Base Exchange Food Court, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and Charley’s Grilled Subs hosted JBSA-Randolph’s sec-ond annual Breakfast with Santa Dec. 10. The free breakfast featured activities and music. More than 150 children and their parents attended.

2011 Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph photo gallery

An appointment is designated as a no-show when a patient does not keep a scheduled ap-pointment or cancels less than two hours prior to a scheduled appointment.

Patients can cancel their appointments by se-lecting the cancellation option during the audiocare appointment reminder call, canceling via TRICARE online or simply calling the Consult Appointment Management Office appointment line.

For any no-shows, patients will be contacted within 48 hours of their missed appointment. The reason for missed appointment will be de-termined and follow-up recommendations made based upon the patient’s clinical need.

For two or more no-shows within a six-month period in a specialty clinic without valid justification (example: sudden acute ill-ness), all future specialty appointments within

that clinic will be canceled and the patient’s Primary Care Manager will be contacted. The patient will require a new referral from the PCM if the specialty care is still needed.

Patients who arrive more than 10 minutes past their scheduled appointment time will be considered late.

Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph T-1 Jayhawk

at the Parr O’Club pool July 8 for a Survival,

Evasion, Resistance and Escape class. The class consisted of one hour of academics, then hands-

on training on how to survive in the water and be successfully rescued.
