2016 Program
An Official TOB Region 10 competition
The Vicendese and Manganiello Families
We dedicate this year’s Pageant of Champions to the greater Vicendese and Manganiello Families. These families have been an intricate part of the life and culture of Berkeley Heights. Their association with the Highlander Band and Governor Livingston spans decades. Over the years, they have graced the Highlander Band and Governor Livingston with their many talents. Whether as instrumentalists, color guard or singers, our musical community has been enriched by their presence. Today, we honor the representatives of these families, most especially Midge Vicendese, who remains active in the culture of the school. Their store, Berkeley Hardware, passed down through the years, always supports the Highlander Band and sponsors the score page in the Pageant Program. We salute the many members of this family today for their high level of commitment to Governor Livingston and to the Highlander Band. Their many decades of commitment inspire us and we look forward to continuing this association with generations of family members yet to come. They are an outstanding model of citizenship for all of us here at Governor Livingston. We’d like to wish them many happy years of music, life, and togetherness in Berkeley Heights.

Dear Attendees, Welcome to the 2016 Governor Livingston High School Pageant of
Champions! Since 1972, bands from all around the region have graced our field in performance and we are delighted to have them. The field shows you will see demonstrate a vast richness and variety representing time-honored traditions as well as new and bold innovations. Whether you are a first-time visitor to our school or a long-time friend, we’re happy that you are here. Speaking to Governor Livingston’s 2016 Field Show, our show features the theme of “Seven.” We are celebrating this mysterious number with the music of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, the seven deadly sins, seven as a lucky number, the seven colors of the rainbow, and seven in mathematics and science. Please take a moment to look at the ads from our various local business supporters and friends. When you patronize them, please tell them you saw their ad in our Pageant Book. Much of what happens here is thanks to them and their endless support.
Now, enjoy the show! The students in all of the groups before you have worked countless hours in the pursuit of their craft. Their hard work and skill inspires us to do better; to be better. There may be nothing more inspirational than the music of our children. They are the music of our hallowed heritage; they are the music of the future. It is a continuing story and I thank you for being here to support them.
Sincerely,
Nicholas O’Sullivan, Band Director
