BCAAs – Video 3 of The Science Behind Our Paleo Proteins Perfected Line
Branched Chain Amino Acids are simply amino acids with a specific side chain (branched), there
are 3: Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine.
What makes them special?
The branched side chain of course!
Branched Chain Amino Acids
Every amino acid has various properties based on its shape. The branched chain structures of these
3 alters the way they are digested, absorbed,
and used by the body.
That’s what accounts for their special properties.
Here are some of the Special Functions associated with BCAAs:
They have been shown to Enhance or Trigger the process of muscle protein synthesis
(with or without exercise).
Leucine - the most special of the BCAAs?
When Leucine comprises at least 40% of a BCAA mixture, it helps to significantly
enhance muscle repair & building in older people to levels comparable to young
people.
I.e., it seems to restore one’s rejuvenative abilities to those of a much younger person.
Have been shown to increase fat burning & glucose sensitivity thereby
enhancing body composition.:
They improve hormone balance (esp. Testosterone : Cortisol; increasing T while decreasing C); they
also reduce the biomarkers of inflammation; both of these things help to speed recovery from exercise, injury, or general wear and tear..
They’ve been shown to enhance Endurance Performance and
Decrease Fatigue (including mental fatigue by competing with
tryptophan uptake and serotonin).
They’ve been shown to enhance Endurance Performance and
Decrease Fatigue (including mental fatigue by competing with
tryptophan uptake and serotonin).
They decrease muscle soreness & delayed onset muscle soreness,
thereby allowing for greater training frequency
They prevent muscle loss or breakdown during long
duration endurance exercise.
They help to improve Neurotransmitter balance: Increasing glutamate & GABA
while reducing serotonin.
They are used medically to treat the following conditions:
liver disease, sarcopenia, cardiac problems, in burn patients, and to reduce mortality in cancer patients.
They have been shown to increase the formation of new mitochondria
which, of course, are the energy powerhouses of the cell and body.
So, do you think it is a good idea to add some BCAAs to your diet?
We think so, and that’s why we’ve beefed up the amount of BCAAs in our
Paleo Proteins Perfected line.
They are believed to increase lifespan comparably to calorie restriction.
