Pope’s Universal Intention For April, 2017

Young People: That young people may respond generously to their vocations and seriously consider offering themselves to God in the priesthood or consecrated life.

Encounter Lent Encounter our Neighbors

We encounter Jesus this week in Jerusalem, a community he knew well. We prayerfully enter into our own communities

too, encountering those who are hungry and thirstt,y, and others who need our help. How does our Lenten journey mo-

tivate us to serve those we meet in our daily lives? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord April 8 & 9, 2017

Isaiah 50:4-7 The Suffering Servant speaks to the weary.

Psalm 22 “My God, my God, why have you abandoned Me?”

Philippians 2:6-11 Jesus emptied himself, and accepted death on a Cross.

Matthew 26:14-27:66 or 27:11-54 The came to a place called Golgotha and Crucified Jesus there.

The glorious entrance into Jerusalem that we just experienced in our procession finds an echo in the centurion’s word near the end of our Passion proclamation today: “Truly, this was the Son of God!” In between, we will hear proclaimed Isaiah’s

prophetic description of the Suffering Servant, St. Paul’s great hymn of praise, and the dramatic unfolding of the Passion according to Saint Matthew. Let us take time to

absorb it all, reflecting on the very great love of God for us, revealed in the man who was truly the Son of God.

Next Week’s readings: Acts 10:34a, 37-43; Psalm 118; Colossians 3:1-4 or 1 Corinthians 5:6b-8; John 20:1-9 or Matthew28:1-10 (#41) or in the afternoon Luke 24:13-35 (#46)

The Pontifical Good Friday Collection

Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps

Christians in the Hoy Land.

Your support helps the church minister to parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious

education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines.

The wars, unrest and instability have been especially

hard on Christians. In these tines of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides

humanitarian aid to refugees.

When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity

with the Church in the Holy Land.

PLEASE BE GENEROUS!

Catholic Relief Services to Highlight Chuuk

As a part of their “CRS Rice Bowl” campaign, Catho-lic Relief Services (CRS) will be highlighting the peo-ple of Chuuk who currently live in the USA. As a part of this campaign, our Young Adult Ministry and the

Hawaii Chuukese community will be hosting an event after the 11am Mass on Sunday, April 9 in the Parish

Pastoral Center. A video which documents an ongoing project in Pahoa, called, “ONE OHANA: Food & Housing for All” has been produced by Bernadette

Baraquio for the Office of Social Ministry and is being shared nation-wide. We will be viewing this short doc-umentary and the Hawaii Chuukese Community will

be sharing other aspects of their culture as well as some samples of breadfruit dishes! Please join us in

our efforts to strengthen our Parish Ohana through this sharing of culture and community!

To view the video and for more information, please visit: www.officeforsocialministry.org.

The great paradox of Christianity is that a death is the remedy for Death. It was in losing his life that Christ brought us new

life.

However, Jesus’ death doesn’t mean that we escape the Cross. Jesus didn’t suffer and die so that we would not have to suffer and die. He died on the Cross so that He could transform the

inevitability of death and suffering.

Jesus embrace Death and Death could not hold him. Jesus embraced the Cross so that our own crosses can be changed - from instruments of death into healing tools that bring forth life. This is what Jesus meant when he said, “Whoever does

not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”

Could Jesus speak any more plainly about not eliminating suffering from our lives? No. Jesus didn’t come to abolish the

cross but to transform the crosses our lives bring us.

Suffering is inevitable. We will all suffer. We will all die. But at the heart of all this suffering and death is a wonderful truth. By Jesus’ death on the Cross, we are freed. What was

once our doom is now our salvation.

Diocese of Honolulu

On APRIL 23, 2006, Bishop Larry Silva consecrated the

Diocese of Honolulu to The Divine Mercy.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Jesus requested to St. Faustina Kowalska that the first Sunday after Easter be celebrated with great solemnity as the “Feast of Mercy“, also known as “Divine Mercy Sunday“. Je-sus said to St. Faustina, “I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. The very depths of My tender mercy are open on that day. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon souls who will approach the font of My Mercy.” “The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion (on DM Sun-day) shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment … Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scar-let.” I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish.”
