HAHA 1st Panellist Irregular student (AJ): In my entire stay in college, I have never experienced being able to enroll as a regular student. I’ve always dreaded online enrollment due to the fact that DLSU’s enrollment portal is unreliable most of the time, and I’d always end up not getting into my initially planned time slots. It sounds selfish, I know, but there is more to it, really. I am quite sure that I am speaking in behalf of all irregular students when I say that where students like me end up during online enlistment has physical and psychological effects. It may vary from student to student but in my point of view, receiving a failing mark is already a heavy load in itself. Waiting for everyone else to be able to enlist first before I could (because I got a 0.0) never helped and in fact, only added up to my troubles. I’d often spend, at most, an entire day just to be able to finish enlisting. Getting past the log in page took a lot of my time. And by the time I got to the enlistment page, most of the slots had already been filled. The only ones left, if any, were either scheduled early in the morning or late at night. Question: What are the negative effects of the previous enrollment policy? Adjusting to a daily schedule of 8 AM to 9:10 PM is hard, especially when there are long breaks in between. When I’d get home, I’d feel drained and exhausted, and I’d just want to rest but I couldn’t because of all the homework due the next day. This kind of routine is not healthy, and it affects a student’s performance in school. Petitioning for a subject is another thing. There was one term when I had to petition for a course because all the other slots were full. Another section was opened for that subject, but it was later dissolved for some unknown reason. You could just imagine how nervous I was for being delayed further. Question: How did affect your psyche? In a way, the old system reminded me of the course I failed. During my first couple of years of stay in college, flunking this one course bothered me. Instead of concentrating, I spent time thinking about something that I couldn’t undo. For me, it was a punishment. An undeserved one, for that matter. That is why I am for the new system. To some extent, it gets rid of discrimination and gives everyone an equal opportunity to enlist and get into the classes that he/she wishes to take at

    2ndPanellist2ndDL(Kohl): Iama3rdyearAdvertisingmajor,andmostofmytermshereinDLSU,Ivebeena2ndhonorDeansLister.Eversince,Ivedreadedthefactthatonlythe1sthonorDeansListersaretheonesprivilegedtohavetheiradvancedenrolment.Igetit,theyhavethehighestgradesinDLSU,butitsjustunfairforus,whoarealsopartoftheDeansList,thatwerenotadvantagedtogetanadvancedenrolment.Addingtothefactthattheonlyincentivewegetishavingunlimitedcutsforthesucceedingterm.

    OnbehalfofthetheDLSUstudentswhoworkedhardandreachedthe2ndhonorDeansList,wealsodeservetobeatleastdaysadvancethantheregularenrolment.WehavereachedthedesiredGPAforthatcertaintermandwedeservetoberecognizedandberewardedjustasthe1sthonorDeansListers.Afterall,werealsocalledtheDeansListers,withgradesnotlowerthan2.0andaGPAofatleast3.0.Anotherthingwouldbethefactthatweredaysaheadofthepriorityandregularenrollees,reallyhelpsusalotinchoosingourschedule.ItalsoletsusexperiencetheluxuryofhavingastressfreeenrolmentasourprizeorincentiveformakingittotheDeansList.

    Iamreallyforthiscurrentsystembecauseitlessensthespecialtreatmentforthe1sthonorDeansListersanditseparatesusfromtherestofthestudentswhoexperiencethecrashingofMLS.Thiscurrentenrolmentsystemisreallyfairformeanditsreallyabighelpforus.

    IsharedmyexperiencesoyoucanseewhatIvebeenthrough.Mypointhereisthat,itwouldbeunfairformeandtootherswhoexperiencethesamesituationbecauseweputsomuchefforttogetahighgrade,nottofailagainandanotherreasonistheenrollmentsystemwhichreinstatedstudentsisonedayaheadcomparedtoirregularstudentswhichalsomeansthatmoresectionsisstillopenduringthereinstatedenrollment.Thenewenrollmentdefeatsthepurposeofreinstatedstudentsbecausewearenowmergedwiththeregularstudentssoitonlymeansthattherearemorecompetitionforusreinstatedstudentsingettinginaclass.

    3RDPANELLISTLasallianBrother(Jer):HellomynameisBroJer.IvebeenaLasallianbrothersince2005andIvebeenassignedtoservehereinDLSUManilasince2009.ThroughoutmystayhereinDLSU,Ihavebecomefriendswithmanystudents,andofcourse,theyvesharedtheirstrugglesinpersonallives,academics,eveninenrollment!Somesayitsdiscriminatory.OtherssayDLsgettoomuchspecialtreatment.AndIfeelfortheregularstudentsstruggleduringenrollmentespeciallythefactthatyoureatwarwiththerestoftheschoolandthefactthattheserverneverfailstocrash.ButasaLasallianbrother,IfirmlybelieveinthestatementLasallianachieversforGodandcountry.IbelievethattheDLsdeservetheadvancedenrollment.Theyworkedhardforit.Theyachievedit,especiallythereinstatedstudents.Theywereevenmoredeterminedtoexcelaftertheirfailure.Ibelievethatssomethingtoadmire.
