PANMURE

POST 63no.

As we continue to take small steps back to some type of normality, or this could be the new normal, depending on how long this pesky virus continues to wreck havoc on the Country, we are delighted that the Club is starting to feel like Panmure again.

Craig and his team are ecstatic to welcome you back to the Clubhouse and the ability to enjoy some fine food and drinks, along with a social game in a fourball, feels almost like before the lockdown ever reared its ugly head.

The revised fixture list has now been published, and we look forward to the major trophies being contested and the worthy winners crowned. If you have not received the updated document, please contact the office for an electronic copy.

The Club’s 175th birthday came during lockdown, but we still have a weekend of celebrations planned for Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August. Final plans will be issued and they will be in line with the Scottish Government’s guidelines for social gatherings. We hope the current regulations will be extended prior to the celebrations.

We would like to thank you, the members, for the ongoing support during these extremely difficult times, it is greatly appreciated and we look forward to enjoying the remainder of the season.

Yours in golf!

WELCOME BACK…

How to play from the rough by Andrew Crerar Picture 1 - Never get greedy, make sure you take plenty loft with your club selection.

Place more weight on your left leg than normal which will promote a steeper takeaway. Set up with a weaker than normal left hand grip to avoid the face from closing too quickly. To also help that open the face more than normal as the long grass stems will grab the shaft.

Picture 2 - Having taken a steeper start to the backswing you are now in a better position to hit a hard descending blow. The extra loft that you hopefully selected will in reality be less lofted at impact than normal and it’s amazing how far you can move it out of the rough sometimes.

Picture 3 - If you try to take a normal backswing there is potential for the grass to grab the shaft early and you don’t get normal momentum into the swing.

Special tip - start your swing from this position, don’t waste energy dragging the head through the rough. This will also promote the steeper angle of attack required.

PRO TIP OF MONTH

Spring Meeting The rescheduled Spring Meeting will take place on Saturday 8th August.

This is one of our most prestigious competitions with a number of prizes to compete for including the MacLachlan Medal which was presented by the Club’s first Captain in 1845.

This is a drawn competition and entries will close on Sunday 3rd August.

To enter after this time, please email [email protected] with a request for AM or PM.

Entry can be made at the Professional shop and the staff will record your preferred time within 1 hour blocks, with 18 spaces available within each time zone.

Earlier times have tended to be popular in the past and it is reasonable to expect that there may be pressure on these again.

Enjoy a great day’s competition.

Please note this competition is not open to student members.

Knockout Competitions

The draws for the Buist Cup, Kyd Cup, Vulcan Cup and Barry Quaich have now been completed and published to all competitors.

Due to the reduced time, please arrange your ties as quickly as possible and it is the responsibility of both parties to arrange the tie.

Traditionally challengers will offer at least 3 dates of which one should be a weekend date.

No extensions to the due date will be permitted unless under exceptional circumstances. Application for any such extension must be made well in advance and supported by information as declared in the Panmure Fixture card.

IT IS NOT ANTICIPATED THAT ANY SUCH APPLICATION IS LIKELY TO BE APPROVED.

If you have not already done so, please pay your entry fees to the professional staff. £8 per pair and £5 for the singles.

COMPETITION ENTRY FEES As we have returned to competition golf, a number of members have queried the competition entry fees, the allocations to sweeps and the prize distribution.

The medal / stableford entry fee is £1 and this is mandatory and covers the costs specifically attributable to competitions including engraving.

The additional charges are optional and include £2.50 for the overall sweep and £1.50 for the 2’s sweep.

100% of the sweep and 2’s money is paid out in prizes.

The 2’s sweep: a hole in one gets half the entry money, with the remainder split evenly between the 2’s.

Uneven entries: when split into two sections, the monies are split as per the number of entries in each section.

The sections are split 0 to 12 and 13 and above. We hope this clarifies all of the entry fees and allocations.

Over the years, the Club has worked hard to mitigate the risk of golf balls entering the adjacent caravan park. Tees and fairways have been moved, trees planted, but the incidents continue, and we have experienced an influx since the return to golf.

Therefore the Board have approved the installation of an internal out of bounds to the right hand side of the 8th fairway, over the hillocks and adjacent to the track. White posts clearly define the boundary.

Whilst we all have the best intentions to hit the middle of the fairway, I know my abilities does not match up with my expectations. The new out of bounds will hopefully help focus the direction of play away from the caravan park and into the middle of the fairway!

Club V1 app

The prize winners for the gents competitions are now available to view in the documents section of the Club V1 app.

You will also find the revised fixture list, along with policy documents and the terms of competition documents.

The Club V1 members app has recently been updated and now includes a today’s golf option on the homepage.

Clicking on this option takes you directly to the Howdidido website and allows members to enter their competition score or view the live leaderboards, without having to access the separate Howdidido app.

Members entering scores in the MSi (mobile score input) feature of Howdidido, will now be asked for their markers name. This information is logged on your electronic scorecard within the competition data.

The knockout competition draws can also be viewed in the Club V1 app and match results can also be posted by clicking on your name and then following the on screen instructions.

If you do not have access to the smartphone app, please report match results to [email protected]

NEW PLAYING PARTNER SCHEME

I S S U E #63

During the first part of the year and since the return to golf commenced, we have been very fortunate to welcome a number of new members to the Club.

As some of these members and numerous other existing members do not have regular playing partners, we have been trying to come up with a concept to help join members up for general bounce games and medal competitions.

Therefore, we are launching a new scheme, where you can simply add “partner required” to your BRS online booking.

Other members, looking for a game can then view this request and can contact the professional staff to be added to the reservation.

Andrew Crerar remains delighted to make introductions, but we hope this will add another option for single members to get more games and meet other members.

CLUB V1 APP UPDATES

I S S U E#63

It is an absolute pleasure to see everyone again and thank you to all who have dropped in to say hello, your support is greatly appreciated.

With the return to being open, we have made a few tweaks to the menu, introducing some some new dishes and the feedback has been very positive.

With the continued demand for the takeaway service, we have added a new option including a sandwich or hot filled roll, a piece of fruit and a hot drink for only £5.

For those members with a sweet tooth, we are starting a dessert menu from the beginning of August. If you would like to see your favourites added, we would be delighted to receive any suggestions, my vote is already in for profiteroles!

At last it is hello and welcome again to our fabulous Clubhouse!
