The Spanish classes have been learning about some of the cultural concepts of the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead, which is not Mexican Halloween, but is an ancient Mayan and Aztec holiday adapted by the Spanish. Culturally, it is very interesting and not at all scary!! 7th and 8th grade students will create their own altars or tombstones, dedicated to a famous Hispanic that has passed away. Some of the work will be done in class, but a lot of the work should be done at home. The projects are all due Friday, November 3. I have plenty of markers, crayons and glue, but if they’d like anything extra to decorate their altars or tombstones with, that should be provide on their own (i.e. glitter, construction paper, etc.). El Día de los Muertos is celebrated on November 1 and 2, but we will present our projects Friday, November 3 & Monday, November 6. If there are any questions, comments, or concerns about this project, please do not hesitate to contact me. Again, we are really looking forward to opening our classes to a wonderful opportunity for a cultural experience. Thank you, again, for sharing your children with us. We at The Anthony School certainly enjoy them! ¡Muchísimas gracias! Señora López [email protected]

We run at Two Rivers Park, on the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Christ Lutheran school campuses and on the infield at Oaklawn in Hot Springs. Cross Country season is my favorite time of year! REPTILES! PreK3 had a visit from the Museum of Discovery! The children learned

about reptiles and got to pet a blue-tongued skink from Australia! CHESS CLUB The Anthony School Chess team started their season with two

tournaments. Nikolaus Franco, Ethan Haslauer, Christian Kasten, JP Lyon, Dylan Patel, and Jacob Razer are members the 2017-18 team. We are proud to announce Dylan Patel placed 1st in the opening middle school tournament held this season. As the season progresses students will participate in tournaments held around the city. The players meet on Tuesday and Thursday during A & E to

complete against their own teammates. KINDERGARTEN BUILDS ANTHONYVILLE Kindergarten has been very busy constructing their own town while learning

about different communities. Anthonyville was created using the talents and imaginations of some amazing kids. We recycled boxes to make our buildings: a school, house, hospital, toy store, zoo, museum, police station, vet’s office, grocery store, and an airport. Then we added roads, parks, people, cars, animals and plants. This was such a fun project that helped us learn all about communities and what makes them so special. You can visit Anthonyville in the atrium between Kindergarten and First Grade.

PREK4 LEARNS ABOUT COMMUNITY HELPERS! During the month of September, our PreK4 and Transition

classes learned about the helpers in our community. To enhance their study, parents and friends were invited to share details about their job. The children learned to decorate a cupcake from a pastry chef and how to approach an unknown dog from Able Paws. They have also learned what an analyst, doctor, scientist and policeman do to make our community better.

After learning about those jobs

as well as the jobs their parents do, our PreK4 students decided they wanted to do. The most popular careers were: police officer (6), doctor (4), firefighter (3), daddy (3), ballerina/dance teacher (3), scientist (2), teacher (2), mommy (2), and Barbie (2). Other careers that interested this PreK4 group include: author, bath tub washer, businessman, chef, construction worker, guitar seller, ninja, nurse, painter, Pokémon, queen, Rescuebot, soldier and zookeeper.
