Edition!
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time each week to read the Panther Post. This is an important
communication tool from school to home. This week’s edition has our monthly class-
room updates. There is also information and details about several other upcoming
school activities. Please call the school office if you have any questions.
Spring Picture Day: Thursday, April 11. These are “casual” pictures, so
this will be a dress-down day. Students may wear school-appropriate clothing
of their choice for the pictures and may also bring a “prop” to have in the
picture with them.
Spring Concert: Wednesday April 17, 7:00 p.m. Students are to be here at
6:30. Complete information is contained within this Panther Post. All fami-
lies are asked to bring 1-2 dozen cookies for the refreshments after.
School Panorama Picture: Monday, April 22. We try to “color coordinate”
our students, so would like students to wear either a navy blue or white uni-
form shirt on that day.
Home & School Adult Trivia Night: Saturday, April 13, doors open 6:30
p.m. Come join in for a fun evening! Basket Raffle drawings are that evening,
too! Raffle tickets are being sent home today with students. You can get a
peek at the baskets and buy tickets after Masses this weekend.
The 7th grade class is having a Flower Power flower bulb fundraiser for
their eighth grade trip. They will be selling perennials and spring flower
bulbs through April 12.
May Fling: May 4. Each school family is
asked to sell at least 3 May Fling tickets.
Come join the fun that evening, complete
with prime rib dinner for two and dancing!
May Fling Committee meeting: Thurs-
day, April 11, 6:00 p.m. in the Profes-
sional Room.
Thank you for all you do to support St. Peter
School!

Thank you to everyone for supporting the 2013 Math-A-Thon!
We only need $405.87 to make St. Peter School’s lifetime total
equal $40,000! Money is due to school by April 10.
Due to the February
Home & School meeting
being postponed until
March, the April meeting
will now be on May 7,
6:30pm.
May Fling—May 4
For the newer families, you may be wondering what is this thing called May Fling. It is a $100 dinner, dance, and $10,000 give away. Each ticket pro-vides two Prime Rib dinners (buffet style), dance, adult beverage, and a chance to win up to $10,000. Even if you don't win the big money, the evening is well worth the ticket price and all losing tickets are eligible for a chance to win a door prize. We are asking each family to sell 3 tickets this year.
We will have a May Fling meeting on Thursday, April 11. We will meet at school at 6:00 p.m. Have a great weekend!!
Spring Concert Cookies The Home & School Association asks each family to bring 1-2 dozen cookies to the Spring Concert, or send them to school with your child, for the reception after the program. Thank you!

Spring is really here! The kids have enjoyed the great weather we have been having. It helps us
work harder when we get some fresh air. We will be very busy in April. We started out in
April growing some donuts!! The kids really enjoyed April’s Fools Day. We also are doing a
unit on butterflies. We just received our caterpillars in the mail and we are enjoying watching
them grow. They will soon turn into cocoons and we will transfer them into our butterfly
house. The kids are practicing our songs for their concert and sounding great. The concert is
on April 17th. On April 22nd we will receive our chicken eggs and they will hatch sometime that
week. The kids will enjoy watching the chicks working to get out of the eggs. Make sure you
stop in class to see our butterflies and chicks. The April book order will be due back on Mon-
day April 9th. There are some great books that all the whole class will enjoy.
God Bless

Pre-Kindergarten
Kindergarten Happy Spring!! Hope everyone enjoyed their time off last week. With about six weeks of
school left the kindergarteners are putting in their best effort to get ready for first grade. We
were able to finish our Stations of the Cross booklet before break. The students enjoyed learn-
ing and watching the other classes participate in the stations each Friday. We are
also beginning to sit in church without our eighth grade buddies to get us ready for next
year. We will be reading in mass next Friday, April 12th. We are currently focusing on being
part of God’s family. We are on unit 8 of our reading series with only two units lefts. We have
begun a writing workshop with journals each day to practice our sentences. In math we are
learning about addition and then moving on to subtraction. We will end with larger num-
bers. We are beginning to phase out the rest time and move to a quiet reading selection of our
book boxes. We look forward to a productive six weeks before graduation on May 17th.
God Bless.

3rd & 4th Grades Congratulations to Mrs. Neudecker on the birth of her baby, Luke! While she is home, Mrs.
Holmes is teaching her classes.
In third and fourth grade, we are learning about land formations in Science. In Social Studies,
the students are studying Missouri history. They recently received cabbage plants to grow at
home, and this week have received white oak trees to plant for Arbor Day. I am enjoying work-
ing with your students! Enjoy April!
Mrs. Terri Holmes
Dear Parents,
We are rapidly coming to the end of the year and, of course, we have lots left to do.
The second graders are looking forward to First Communion and their banners are due next
week. The spring concert is the 17th, First Communion the 28th and May Crowning May 3rd.
On top of that, I have sent home a Reading Project for both first and second grades. Ask them
about it!
Our room has a new look. The Rembish family donated a large piece of carpet and
thanks to The Robert Pezold family and Mrs. Barr and Jacob, and Katherine Holmes it got in-
stalled one night after school. We are enjoying our bigger carpeted area.
The yoga balls in our room also add to the look. After reading research about using
these balls in the classrooms, Mrs. Arms gave me permission to begin purchasing these balls.
The research says that the “balls force muscle engagement and increased blood flow, leading to
more alertness.” My classes are the guinea pigs. So far we have 8 balls, 6 that we have pur-
chased and 2 donated ones.
With everything that is happening in the next two months, the children still need to meet
deadlines with their homework and projects.
Thank you,
Mrs. Markway
1st & 2nd Grades
HAPPY SPRING!
We have been very busy this past week and it promises to be even busier over the next
few weeks. As I mentioned at parent/teacher conferences, students may need to be reminded
that fourth quarter is NOT the time to quit. It’s time to dig in and pass the finish line!
In English, 5th grade is working on Mechanics and 6th grade is wrapping up a unit on
Modifiers. For reading, we have been reading passages and working on finding the main idea,
details, point of view, and drawing conclusions. I have been reading a book to the students that
was brought to my attention at our Religious Retreat called, Kisses from Katie. It is truly in-
spiring and demonstrates how one person can make a difference. It is an example of someone
listening to God to figure out His plan for them.
In Math, 5th grade is wrapping up a chapter on data and statistics and will take a Unit
test on Monday which will cover measurement, data, and statistics. Sixth grade has just fin-
ished a chapter that was really difficult on customary and metric units of measure.
In Science, we have wrapped up our study of the skeletal system and now we are study-
ing the circulatory system.
In Geography we just finished a map study of Europe. We are now learning more about
North Africa and Southeast Asia. We recently learned that this area was the birthplace of three
religions. We had someone visit us who is from England on Thursday. She gave us an idea of
what life is like living there. The students asked many questions and enjoyed learning that
some things are similar and others are very different. Thanks to Belen and her family for hav-
ing her come visit.
Thank you to those who sent in more notebook paper. I believe we can get through the
year now. Most recently, we have run out of Clorox wipes. If anyone can send in a few canis-
ters, that would be very much appreciated! Just a reminder, Math-a-Thon donations are due
April 10th.
Thanks for your continued support,
Mrs. Wilson

Happy Spring! Finally.
Only six and a half weeks of the 2012-13 school year remain! How did that hap-pen? Eighth graders are more than excited about wrapping up their career at St.
Peter’s, and the seventh grade is preparing to be the “upper” classmen. However, we still have a great deal of academic material to cover for fourth quarter.
We are wrapping up Jacksonian Democracy in history, and will begin the Civil War
unit next week. I hope to include a field trip and guest presentations for this unit, making history relevant to the class. We live in the “middle” of this history unit, but many Missourians do not realize how important our state was in the history of
the war. This unit will include map rubrics and other minor projects, so please continue to visit with your student about daily work and homework.
In literature we continue to work with poetry, and I am very pleased with how hard the students are working with figurative language and sound devices. I will begin supplementing the literature text with a novel unit set in the time of the Civil War.
Some students will be exploring Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin, a look at the institution of slavery and the damaging consequences to families in-volved; both free and enslaved.
With the improved weather comes Spring Fever, and some things seem less impor-tant than ball practice and being outside. Please continue to look for and sign Fri-
day Folders. We have field trips and fund raisers coming up, as well as finals week. All things are important and require attention. If ever you have a question or concern, please contact me. I work very hard to respond to emails immediately,
and am always open to meeting with parents after school hours.
Eighth grade parents, if you did not receive a letter and calendar from me this
week, ask your student! More information about Spring Carnival, May Crowning, and Finals will be forth coming.

Pre-Algebra & Algebra I
Panther Post Page 10 April 5, 2013
Pre-Algebra students are finishing up a unit on Real Numbers and Right Triangles,
where we’ve simplified square roots, worked with the Pythagorean Theorem, and learned about
irrational numbers. We will move on to Polynomials and Nonlinear Functions as we head to the
end of April. I continue to be so pleased with these students and their thinking skills…I even
think on some days they are enjoying math! J I am excited to think how much they will be capa-
ble of doing next year in Algebra 1!
Algebra 1 students are in the midst of multiplying polynomials and will soon be factor-
ing polynomials. We have a few more topics to complete before we finish the year with a final
exam. As they have met with the high schools they will be attending next year, I’m feeling the
push of “so much math, so little time!” They have done really well and I have confidence they
will each be successful in their selected 9th grade math course.
I have truly enjoyed returning to the classroom this year with the Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1
students!

Hello All, The Spring Concert is coming up fast. The show is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17th at 7pm. All family members and friends are welcome to attend. I have two important bits of information to pass along: 1. We will be setting up/decorating for the concert on Sunday, April 14th at noon, or when-
ever 11am Mass is over. If you can come and help, we would greatly appreciate it. The two main parts of the work will involve attaching the stairs to the stage and hanging decora-tions.
2. As we have stated previously, all students are expected to participate in the concert and stay for the entirety of the show. This concert is an important part of each student’s par-
ticipation grade in music class and should not be missed. As we required for the Christmas concert, the dress code for this concert will be nice, dressy clothes. This means no jeans, no t-shirts, and no tennis shoes. All clothes must be school appropriate (see dress code). On the night of the concert, the students should be in their classrooms, dressed and ready no later than 6:30pm.
Also, each family is asked to bring 1-2 dozen cookies for refreshments after the concert. If you have any questions about the concert, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] God Bless, Mr. Cerneka
