Year 7 – Mrs Stonach

Attendance - This week’s form attendance of the week is awarded to 7E with a group attendance of 97.6%

which is pretty good – well done to them. As a year group however year 7 attendance has fallen last week,

this is due to 2 main reasons;

1. There are some nasty bugs around at the moment

2. Holidays in school time.

Could I please politely ask that where possible pupils are in school, if they have the sniffles or a sore

throat, I am more than happy to keep medication in my office for as and when they need it. On the subject

of holidays, please keep them in the school holidays as much as possible. If, for any reason, you must

remove your children in term time, please make a request in writing to the Principal.

The MFL student of the week last week was awarded to Stephen Mahoney – well done Stephen! Sporting

starts of the week last week were awarded to Abbie Upton and Harvey Long.

This week in tutor time, tutors have been discussing uniform i.e. what is and isn’t acceptable. Year 7 are generally a smart and tidy bunch, if you have any problems regarding your child’s uniform, please send a note in with your child explaining what the problem is and when it will be rectified. As from this week, if

your child comes to school in incorrect uniform, with no note from home, they will be issued with a 30

minute detention that day after school – please see the slides below for clarification.

As always a big well done and thank you to those pupils who wear the correct uniform and look smart

every day!

This half term has flown by, with only one more to go before the summer holidays, I would like everybody

in the year group to give 100% effort in everything they do and end Year 9 on a positive note. Have a

Lates:-

Should your child arrive late to school, it not only affects their attendance but also disturbs the learning of

other students which is clearly unacceptable. Please therefore ensure your child arrives to school no later

than 8.35am.

Uniform:-

Please remember to check your child is in the correct uniform every day. If for any reason they are not

then please supply them with a note to show to members of staff on request. Girls uniform – skinny

trousers are not allowed despite sometimes being sold in the “uniform section” of high street department stores, traditional school trousers or knee length skirts please.

Year 10 – Mr Waring Year 10 students have been given instructions on how to apply for a 1 day taster day at the College of West Anglia on the 27th June. In order to attend they must register their details using the information given by Friday 26th May. Further details regarding the taster day will come out in a letter after the half term break. But do please ensure your child registers. As our current Year 11 students fast approach their leaving date, I expect all our Year 10 students will need to step up to the plate and be positive role models for the younger year groups. Looking good, behaving positively and being here every day on time, improves self-esteem and self-worth which in turn breeds success. Please help us to help your children become the best they can. Our higher expectations start after the half term break. Top attending form class this week goes to 10R with a fantastic attendance figure of 98% and leaving the joint winners 10A in their wake but still managed an impressive attendance figure of 97%, well done to both form classes and their form tutors. On the subject of positive achievement points, our year 10 students once again worked hard and produced some great work to achieve 6075 positive points, so well done to them all. This week the top achievement goes to Angel Benefer who accumulated 85 points whilst in a very close second place with 80 points goes to Caitlin Saddleton, well done ladies for being our year 10 shining stars. Congratulations go to 10D for the second week on the run for being the year 10 champion achievers with an accumulation of 860 positive achievement points. As you can see from the table below, 10G came a close second with 845 points. Well done to all students in those classes with the remaining results being;

A huge thank you to Rebecca Barber, who wrote in to tell us all about the North Wootton under 15 football team for which a number of our students play for and who were awarded the fair play award for 2017 during a presentation at KL Corn Exchange. Well done lads you have once again done KES Academy proud. Year 11 – Mrs Wright

Year 11 students are continuing to present themselves in a mature fashion during the exams. This is very

pleasing and they all deserve the credit they are receiving. I must emphasise though that students must

bring black pens, water only in a clear bottle with the label removed and maintain a high standard of

uniform until the very end. The younger students of the school do emulate the elder students and their

fashion choices so for them to continue to look smart and follow the school ethos is very important. I thank

you for your continued support of the school.

Prom ticket sales have now closed and final number’s been given to the caterer’s. Time has passed by so

quickly it is strange to think that in 4 weeks we will be holding our final school assembly to say ‘goodbye’ and finishing the day with the Year 11 prom.

Year 11 attendance is holding steady. It is still really important, now more than ever due to revision

sessions that held prior to exams that Year 11 students attend school regularly and on time. Also, in the

future when references are requested the school can make note of excellent attendance and punctuality.

A trait that most employer’s hold high in their list of priorities for future employees.

I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very restful and relaxing May holiday and hope this

gorgeous weather to stay with us.

Year 11’s keep up all your hard work. You have been amazing!!

Sixth Form

Year 13

Year 13 students had their final assembly and left for study leave this Friday. I know I speak for all their

teachers when I say that it has been a pleasure to work with them over the past two years. We wish them

the very best of luck in their exams and every success in the future.

Students should be aware that although they are now on study leave and are not required to attend

lessons their teachers will still be available to support them during their normal timetabled lessons.

Year 12

I recently sent a letter home detailing the activities we are putting in place for year 12 students to help

Year 12 Work Shadowing Week

Students will be undertaking a work shadowing week between 10th and 14th of July. Students have been

given a presentation and booklet to guide them and sixth form mentors have been working with them to

support them in this. It is however, up to students to secure their own placements.

Year 12 Exams

End of year exams for year 12 will start on Monday the 19th of June. Students' performance in these

exams will be used as the basis for the discussions we will be having with them at the end of year 12 and

beginning of year 13. They will also be used by subject teachers when providing students with

the predicted grades that will go on their UCAS references.

Senior Prefects

The date for nominations for senior prefects has now passed. Year 12 students and teaching staff will now

vote for the students they think are best suited for the role. Successful applicants will then be invited to

interview for the position of Head Boy and Head Girl.

Sixth Form Dress Code

As the weather warms up students often seem to find it more difficult to adhere to our dress code which

In particular can I remind students, that ripped jeans, cut-off jeans and flip flops are not permitted.

What a difference a week makes. Today the sun is shining and it looks to be a great afternoon for our

postponed Junior Football and Junior Rounders.

House captains are busy gathering names for sports day so please sign up if you want to be involved! This

is planned for Monday 3rd July and looks like being a really fun day for the whole school. More information

Last night saw a number of certificates and prizes awarded to students selected by the house team for

their outstanding contributions to events. It's not too late to get involved if you haven't so far. We really do

have something for everyone and if we don't, then tell us and we will try and add it to our events!

After half term work will begin on our new topics. These are:

These topics will be launched by PSHE tutors in assemblies the week after half term. You may want to

discuss these topics with your child.

UNICEF day for change

The sun shone for us! There were some great activities going on in lessons around the academy today, all

with a UNICEF theme. The English department analysed UNICEF posters, the maths department

calculated how much money was needed to support the various causes and the music department did

some African drumming, to name but a few. The picnic was a great success and many of our students

organised extra events to raise money. These included a bake sale, ice cream sale and a guess how

many shirts game. Our students are truly amazing. Final numbers are to be confirmed but it looks like we

should have made our £800 target.
