Spelling• Weekly spellings usually handed out on Friday.• Spellings – write into sentences (research

meaning).• Children need to know the meanings not just

the spellings, discuss with them - this is the most important part.

• Spelling tests take place on Wednesday.• Very useful for children to have own dictionary

and thesaurus at home (online available, English spellings).

Reading Books• Read everyday, record features of what

they have read - WOW words, ideas, etc.• Vary opportunities for children to read on

their own and with an adult.• Need to discuss reading with adult to

improve comprehension skills, can be in home language.

• Library books can be changed in the class sessions or at break time.

• Focus on developing skills rather than knowledge

• Entry / Exit Points – some opportunities for parental involvement. End of this half term opportunity for parents to be involved in class, details will follow.

Homework• Homework to be given out each day.• The amount to increase after Tet in preparation for Y7• Mon & Wed – Maths & Reading Tues & Thurs – Science / IPC, English & Reading Fri – Spellings, completing work / research & Reading• These pieces of homework should be returned, to a high

standard, on the date stated by the class teacher.• Occasionally extra homework – finishing, preparing.• Children should be doing their own homework, but with

parental assistance to ensure completion and quality.• The children should not be copying the words of a parent or

tutor.• School work must take priority over tutors or external lessons.

Homework Diary• Communication tool - make an appointment,

comment, information.• The class teacher will use the homework diary

to convey messages, parents can do the same.• Please check the homework diary everyday

and sign at the end of the week.• Alternatively, you may email with any issues or

P.E. / Clubs • Children must have their P.E. kit every

Wednesday, also full uniform to change into!• If your child does extra sports they must

have their P.E. kit at the correct time – organisation / use of H/W Diary.

• If after school club is active need PE kit, including shoes.

• Swimming kits must be brought on Tuesday (6X) and Friday (6T).

• In school, no doctors note = swim!

Attendance

• Please call the school office to let us know if your child is off for any reason.

• It is imperative that your child gets to school before 7:55am.

• Late children to go to office before class.

Behaviour

• Expectations of independence and becoming responsible for own learning: packing and carrying own bags to sitting down to homework without being told.

• House points/smiley faces and golden time• No jewellery, nail varnish, make up, etc.• Plain black leather shoes• Long hair tied back• Manners• Encouragement of children not to interrupt

Year 6 transition to Y7• Very important that the children develop

independence this year.• Homework diaries closely match those in

AP2 Year 7.• Children will have transition days /

activities prior to AP2.• Parents to encourage independence.• School trip essential part of this process.

• Numerous opportunities to mix with AP1 children throughout the year, including the compulsory residential trip towards the end of the academic year.

• Malaysia – May 2015 (25th – 29th May)

Passport (7 months validity).• Cost 2014

intially charged at 19,000,000 VND (refund of some as there were no unforeseen circumstances or emergencies to cover.)

• Cost for 2014-15 should be similar (still being priced)
