WethanktheLordfortheprivilegeofeducatingchildrenthroughour

Christianschoolministry.Psalm78:4says,“Shewingtothegeneration

tocomethepraisesoftheLORD,andhisstrength,andhiswonderful

worksthathehathdone.”Thisversesummarizeswhatourschoolseeks

toaccomplishintheheartsofourstudents.

Ourstaff,whichisemployedasanextensionofourchurchministry,is

dedicatedtoeachchild'ssuccess.Youwillfindthatthesincerityoftheir

loveprovestobeanassettoyourchild'seducation.Theywillseekto

trainthe“whole”childwhichincludesemotional,mental,physical,and

spiritualaspects.Themainmissionofourschoolistoproducestudents

whoaresavedandwhopossessthemindofChrist.Weseektofulfillthis

goalwhileprovidingagood,solideducation,astrong,spiritual

foundation,andBiblicalprinciplesuponwhichtobuildaChristianlife.It

isourprayerthateachofourgraduateswouldbecomeoutstanding

citizenswhocontributeinpositivewaystosocietyasawholethrough

theirlocalchurch.

Whilethishandbookcaninnowayanswereachandeveryquestion,it

isdesignedtohelpparentsandstudentsgainanunderstandingofthe

school'sgeneralpolicies.PleasepraythatGodwillhelpyouasyouread

STATEMENTOFFAITHFirstBaptistAcademyisaministryoftheFirstBaptistChurchofSWBrowardinCooperCity,Florida.Itisownedandoperatedbythischurchundertheleadershipofthepastor.Theschoolfirmlybelievesandteacheswithoutapologyallprinciplesanddoctrinesfoundinthechurch'sStatementofFaithwhichembracestheBiblical,Baptistposition.Abriefsummaryofthechurch'sStatementofFaithcanbefoundonaprecedingpage.Amoredetailedstatementoffaithcanbefoundonourchurchwebsite,FBCBroward.com.Withthesebeliefsinmind,FirstBaptistAcademybelievesthattheBibleistheinfallible,plenary,inspiredWordofGodandisthefinalauthorityoffaithandpractice.Webelieveintheimportanceofitsinfluenceinthelivesofourstudents.ThisiswhyScripturememoryisrequiredforeachclass.Eachsubjectisbiblically-integratedwhichgivesprinciplesforthestudentsbothtoserveasabasisfortheknowledgelearnedandasaguideforfurthergrowthandstrength.BecauseofourbeliefsconcerningtheBible,aBibleclassorachapelserviceisheldeverydayforallgrades.Eachteacherandstudentisrequiredtoparticipatefullyinalloftheservicesandfunctionsofchapel.FirstBaptistAcademyusestheKingJamesVersionoftheBibleinallclassroominstruction,Biblememory,andchapelservices.

PHILOSOPHYColossians1:18says,"...thatinallthingshe(Jesus)mighthavethepreeminence."ThepurposeofFirstBaptistAcademyisnottoofferanalternativetothegovernmentschoolsystemnortoprovideonlyaprivateeducation.ItisrathertoprovideasolidChristianeducationbaseduponGod'sWordinalovingatmosphere.FBAisnotacorrectiveinstitutionbutisapreservativehavenfortoday'schildrenandyouth.ThisisaccomplishedbyallowingJesusChristtohavethepreeminenceinthelivesofallthosewhohaveapartinthisministry.Ourgoal,whichisalsothegoalofChristianeducation,istodevelopthemindofChristbytrainingstudentstoserveJesusChristfromtheheart.ThePupil:AtFirstBaptistAcademy,webelieveChristianeducationbeginsinthehome.TheChristianschoolisnotasubstituteforthegodlyteachingofChristianparentsbutratherisanextensionofaChristianhome.Christianeducationisnotanend;instead,itisjustthebeginningforyourchildtobefurtherdevelopedineveryway.WebelievethatchildrenareaheritageoftheLord.TheBiblesays,"Trainupachildinthewayheshouldgo:andwhenheisold,hewillnotdepartfromit."(Proverbs22:6)Wetaketheresponsibilityofeducatingyourchildseriously.OurhighestgoalistoseeyourchildcometoknowChristasSavior.ThisgoalisthenfollowedbytheirlearningthejoysoftheChristianlifewhilebuildingcharacterandacademicknowledge.Smallstudent/teacherratiosprovidethesecurityofacaringteacherinalovingenvironment.TheCurriculum:Luke2:52says,“AndJesusincreasedinwisdomandstatureandinfavorwithGodandman."Agoodeducationisobtainedinteachingsubjectsastheyrelatetoman.AgreateducationisobtainedinteachingsubjectsastheyrelatetoChristandthenman.OurgoalistogiveyourchildaspiritualandacademiceducationstartingfromthemandatorypledgesoftheflagsandBibleinthemorningtotheclosingprayerfordismissalintheafternoon.FBAcurriculumisdesignedandtaughtwiththestudents'

needsinmind.Curriculumforeachgradeisorganizedanddevelopedsothatyourchildwillreceivesuperiortraininginallsubjects.Kindergartenthrough12thgradeclassesreceivetrainingfromtheABekacurriculumwhichwasestablishedin1972andBobJonesPresswhichwasestablishedin1973.AllsubjectsaretaughtfromaChrist-centeredworldview.DailyBibletrainingisdesignedtoenhanceyourchild'sspiritualdevelopmentwhileprovidinganopportunityforyourchildtoknowthecompletetruthinallsubjects.Socialdevelopmentisencouragedthroughtheteachingofgoodhabits,highmoralstandards,patriotism,andrespectforparentsandauthority.TheFacultyandStaff:Ourfacultyandstaffaresaved,lovinganddedicatedChristianswhoarefaithfulmembersofthislocal,NewTestamentchurch.TheyservetheLordinministriessuchas:SundaySchool,choir,busroutes,andyouth.TheyarecommittedtoGod,HisWord,theircountry,andtheprinciplesuponwhichthisschoolwasfounded.Theyarededicatedtotheresponsibilityofsecuringthebesteducationpossibleforyourchild.Theyseektoberolemodelswhoarecommittedtosuccesswhereyourchildisconcerned.Ourpastor/principalistheultimateauthorityresponsibleforourschool.Ourteachers'jobistoworkhandinhandwithallparentstoprovideforthedevelopmentofstrongChristiancharacterandacademicexcellenceinthelivesofeverystudent.

ACCREDITATION&MEMBERSHIPSFirstBaptistAcademyisregisteredwiththeDepartmentofEducationfortheStateofFloridaandisworkingundertheumbrellaofABekaAcademyinPensacola,FloridawhichisalsorecognizedbytheDepartmentofEducationfortheStateofFlorida.WeareamemberoftheAmericanAssociationofChristianSchools,AACS,andSunshineStateAssociationofChristianSchool,SSACS,whichisaChristianaccreditationagency.WearecurrentlyseekingfullaccreditationthroughFloridaLeagueofChristianSchools,FLOCS.

ADMISSIONSAsaprivateinstitution,FirstBaptistAcademyreservestheprivilegeofsettingandmaintainingstandardsofconduct,dress,cleanlinessandscholarship.Allapplicantsseekingadmissionmustsecureaninterviewwiththeregistrar,provideallformsofimmunization,healthandacademicprogress,andsubmittheapplicationformsaswellasanyotherformsrequiredforadmittance.Theresultsoftheabovementionedwillbereviewedasthebasisforwhicheligibilityandavailabilityforadmissionwillbedetermined.ItisthepolicyoftheFirstBaptistAcademytorequiretheparentsandprospectivestudentstobefaithfulmembersofFirstBaptistChurchofSWBrowardoraBible-believingchurchoflikefaithbeforeentryandduringenrollmentoftheschoolyear.Eachmiddleandhighschoolstudentmustbeinterviewedbytheadministrativestafftoreviewcharacter,performance,andacademicsbeforebeingacceptedforenrollmentinFBA.Acceptancewillbebaseduponthediscretionoftheschoolprincipal.Aprobationaryperiodofsixschoolweeksisapplicableforallnewstudents.FirstBaptistAcademyreservestherighttoreviewtheconduct,scholasticachievement,andbehaviorofeachchild.Tocompletethistrialperiod,thestudentmustreceiveasatisfactoryconductevaluation.Asaprivate,

Christianinstitution,admissiontoFirstBaptistAcademyisaprivilegeratherthanaright.Thisprivilegemaybeforfeitedandenrollmentterminatedshouldastudent,neworreturning,failtomeethisorherresponsibilitiesasstatedinthepoliciesandpracticesestablishedbytheAdministration.Entrytotheschoolisobtainedintheorderasfollows: 1.FaithfulmembersingoodstandingofFirstBaptistChurch 2.Studentswhoareacceptedforre-enrollment 3.Prospectivestudentsonthewaitinglist 4.ProspectivestudentsinthecommunityNON-DISCRIMINATIONPOLICYFirstBaptistAcademymakesnodistinctionintheadmissionofitsstudentsonthebasisofrace,color,nationality,orethnicorigininadministrationofitspractices,educationalpolicies,athleticandschool-administeredprograms.

RE-ENROLLMENTRe-enrollmenttakesplaceearlierthangeneralregistrationinordertoguaranteeacceptance.Are-enrollmentformandfeewillberequiredbeforetheendofschooltoapplyforre-enrollment.Allapplicationswillbeapprovedatthesolediscretionoftheschool.Ifre-enrollmentisnotgranted,thefeewillberefunded.IfafamilydecidestowithdrawfromFBAbeforethestartofschool,FBAhastherightnottorefundtheregistrationfeeoranyotherfeesalreadypaidfortheupcomingyear.ACADEMICSOneofourtopprioritiesisacademicexcellence.Withthisinmind,parentswillbewell-informedofacademicprogressionthroughspecialformsandmeetings.Kindergartenstudentswillreceiveregularmaterialsupdatingparentsofdevelopment.Allstudentswillreceivequarterlyreportcards(everynineweeks).Eachchildwillbeassignedappropriate,butnotexcessivehomework.Itistheparent’sjobtomakesurethehomeworkiscompleted.ThereisnohomeworkonWednesdaysforstudentswhoattendthemid-weekchurchserviceandwhohaveshownareasonableefforttocompletetheirworkduringtheschoolday.

STANDARDIZEDTESTINGEachstudentin1stthrough12thgradeswillberequiredtoparticipateinastandardizedachievementtestingprogrameachyearwhichwillshowthestudent’sacademicprogressforthatyear.Resultsfromthistestingaremadeavailableattherequestoftheparents.11thand12thgradestudentsareencouragedtotakeSATandACT’s.If12thgradestudentshavetakentheirSATorACT’s,theyareexemptfromthe12thgradeschoolstandardizedtesting.

PARENTORIENTATION&OPENHOUSEAtthebeginningofeachschoolyear,aParentOrientationandOpenHouseMeetingwilltakeplacewhichisvitallyimportantforparentstounderstandthecurriculumandprocedures.Allstudentsandparentsareexpectedtoattendfortheirchild'seducationalbenefit.Parentsareencouragedtostayinconstantcontactwiththeirchild'steachereitherbywrittencommunicationorbyappointment.ParentsshouldsupporttheChristianschoolteacherbycontinuallyinstillingChristianinstructioninthehomeasfoundinDeuteronomy6:6-9.

CHRISTMASPROGRAM,CLOSINGPROGRAM&K-5GRADUATIONEachyearourstudentsperformaChristmasProgramandaClosingProgram.Theseprogramsgivethestudentsanopportunitytobeinvolvedinvariousfacetsofspeechanddramaperformance.TheClosingProgramisatimeinwhicheachclassexhibitsaportionofwhattheyhavelearnedthroughouttheschoolyear.Eachstudentisrequiredtoparticipateunlessprogramsarescheduledcontrarytotheirownchurchservices.Uponcompletionofallsubjectmaterial,K-5studentsgraduateincapandgownandreceivetheirkindergartendiplomaonthenightoftheClosingProgram.AK-5graduationfeewillbeobtaineduponenrollmentforthisevent.

GRADUATIONREQUIREMENTSHighschoolseniorsmustmeetalloftheschool’srequirementstograduate.Theschoolexpectseachgraduatetobeasaved,faithfulchurchmemberpreparingtofurthertheireducationwhilemaintainingagood,Christiantestimony.Inordertograduate,eachstudentmustearn24highschoolcreditsintheapprovedsubjects,meetthestandardsofconductofFBA,andmaintainagoodandrespectfulattitude.Agraduationfeeisrequiredatthebeginningoftheschoolyear.The24creditsrequiredforgraduationare:

• 4Biblecredits(orasmanyyearsasenrolledinHSatFBA)• 4Englishcredits• 4Mathcredits• 3Sciencecredits• 3SocialStudiescredits• 2ForeignLanguagecredits,mustbeinthesameforeignlanguageandinconsecutiveyears• 1PhysicalEducationcredit,includingtheintegrationofHealth• 1ComputerCredit• 2ElectiveClasses• Studentscangraduatewithmorethan24credithours.

Studentsenteringtheir9thgradeyearwillhaveameetingwiththehighschooldeantodiscusstheirgraduationrequirementsfortheirhighschoolyears.

HIGHSCHOOLTRANSCRIPTSOnehighschooltranscriptwillbesentwithoutchargeatthestudent’swrittenrequestfollowinggraduation.Afterschoolbeginsthefollowingfall,eachtranscriptwillbesubjecttoa$10transcriptfeeandwillbereleasedonlytoacollegeorplaceofemploymentuponreceiptofawrittenrequestandpaymentoftranscriptfee.

ABSENCES,TARDIES,&EARLYDISMISSALSRegular,punctualattendanceatschoolisexpectedandrequired,asattendanceisessentialtothelearningprocess.Allhighschoolstudents,grades9through12arepermittedatotalof20unexcusedabsencesperschoolyear.Afterthis,ourschoolisrequiredtorevokeallcreditforeachandeverysubject,causingimmediatefailure.However,studentsarestillrequiredtoremaininschoolfortheremainderoftheschoolyear.Failuretodoso,willforcetheschooltonotifytheproperauthorities.AllschoolstudentsinKindergartenthrough8tharepermittedtohave30unexcusedabsences.Afterthis,itcouldresultinthestudentfailingthegrade.Everyeffortshouldbemadetoscheduleappointments(doctor,dentist,etc.)afterschoolhours.Inthecaseofatardyorabsenceduetosicknessordoctor’sappointment,anoteisrequiredfromtheparentordoctortobeconsideredexcused.Withoutanote,theywillreceiveazeroonquizzesandteststhattheymisswhichcannotbedroppedfromtheirclass’sgradebook(ifaclassdropsthelowestquizortestgrade).Makeupassignmentsmustbearrangedbythestudents,parentsandteachers.Inthecaseofearlydismissals,notesmustbegiventotheacademyofficeatthestartoftheschooldayifastudentisbeingdismissedearlyfromschool.Withoutanoteforearlydismissal,theofficecannotguaranteeaswiftdismissalprocessforthestudent.Whenpickingupstudentsearlyfromschool,parents/guardiansmustgobytheofficetosignouttheirstudents.Donotgodirectlytotheclassrooms.Theofficewillsendforthestudentsfromtheirclassroomsfordismissal.Makeupassignmentsmustbearrangedbythestudents,parentsandteachers.

ForOSS,thestudentiscountedasbeingabsentandnoschoolworkmaybecompletedduringthistime.ExpulsionisthenextstepofdisciplineforastudentwhohasalreadyreceivedISSandOSS.Expulsiontakesplacewhenastudenthasviolatedthestandardsofconductaslistedbelow,whenoffensesarerepeated,orwhentheadministrationdeemsnecessary.Whenexpulsionoccurs,allcreditwillberevokedforatleastthecurrentorprevioussemesterandcanexceedonesemesterifdeemednecessarybytheadministration.Whenastudentbecomesintolerantoftherulesandisaconstantoffenderwithbehavioralproblems,hemaycausehisparenttobeaskedtowithdrawhimfromtheschool.Alldisciplineisadministeredonanindividualbasisandissubjecttothediscretionofadministration.

ItisaprivilegeforastudenttooperateanautomobileoncampusofFirstBaptistAcademy.Thisprivilegecanberevokedatthediscretionoftheadministrationinmattersofrecklessdriving,disobedienceofunapprovedriders,andthelackoftheresponsibleoperationofavehicle.Allstudent’scarsmustbeparkedonthenorthsideofthechurchparkinglotinthegrassparkingspots.StudentsmaynotdrivebackandforthbetweentheYouthCenter,modularbuildings,andchurchbuildingbetweenclasses.

INSPECTIONS/PERSONALPROPERTY

Ifadministrationsuspectsthatanyunapprovedmaterialexistsontheschoolproperty,asearchwilltakeplace.Asearchmaybeconductedatanytimebecauseregistrationintotheschoolconstitutesparentalandstudent’sconsenttoallsuchsearcheswithoutpriornotification.Contrabandmaterialswillbeheldandtheirreturnwillbebaseduponthedecisionoftheadministration.Theschooltakesnoresponsibilityforthestudent'spersonalproperty.

Studentsmaynotgothroughanotherstudent’slockerorpersonalitemsforanyreason.

CELLPHONEANDPERSONALELECTRONICUSAGEIfaparentneedstocommunicatewiththeirchildduringtheschoolday,theyneedtocontacttheacademyoffice(954-404-7706).Ifaparentneedstocomepickuptheirstudentfromschoolearly,theofficemustbenotifiedatthebeginningoftheday,andtheofficewillnotifythestudent’steachertodismissthestudentfromclassandcometotheofficetobecheckedout(seetheAbsences,Tardies,&EarlyDismissalsection).Studentsarenotallowedtobeontheirpersonalphones/electronicdevicesduringclasstimes.Studentswithcellphones/electronicdevicesin6thgradeanddownmustkeepthemintheirlockersandpowereddownduringschooltime.Studentsingrade7-12thmustkeepalltheirpersonalelectronicdevicesintheirlockersduringclasstimes.Electronicdevicescannotbeusedinclassorlunchunlesspermissionisgrantedbytheirteacher.Ifastudentusesanelectronicdevicewithoutpermissionduringschool(includinglunchtimes),thedevicewillbeconfiscatedandmustbecheckedoutoftheFBAofficebytheparentafterschool.

COMPUTER/INTERNETUSAGEPOLICYFBAhasbeenrichlyblessedintheareaofcomputerhardwareandsoftware.Thisblessingalsobringsanincreasedresponsibilitytousecomputerswisely.Biblically,thismeansusingcomputershonestlyand

Studentsmaybegivenadetentioniftheydonotcomply.Violationsoftheaboveruleswillbetreatedlikeanyviolationinvolvingdishonestyandcheating.Ifyouhaveanyquestions,pleaseseeateacher.Itmaybecomenecessarytostoresomestudents’workonindividualschoolcomputers.Whenthisisnecessary,thestudent’sfolderontheharddrivewillbetreatedthesameasexternalmemorydevices.Filesaretoonlybeusedbythatstudent.Theyarenevertobeusedbyanyotherstudentforanyreason.Usingorviewinganyotherstudent’sworkwillbetreatedthesameasusingthatworkforone’sownpurposesandisconsideredcheating.StudentsarenevertohaveaccesstotheInternetwithoutteachersupervision.Thisalsoappliestotheuseofwirelesstechnology.
