Tuition and FeesTuition is charged according to your residency. In-district residents are those who

live within the Paris Junior College taxing district and pay taxes to PJC, while out-of-district students are those who reside outside the PJC taxing district.

Non-resident tuition is charged to those residing outside the state. Oklahoma residents are charged out-of-district, not non-resident tuition.

Students may be charged a higher fee for courses attempted a third or more times.

• Register during early registration if possible.• New students may register early but must do it in person

after taking mandatory orientation.• Request a Degree Plan when you register.• Payment is due upon registration.• Apply for financial aid at www.fafsa.gov.• Payment Plans are available.

How to Read Abbreviations in This ScheduleSubject areas are listed alphabetically and individual courses are listed

by course title. Day classes include those offered on the regular Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday schedule and those taught on Fridays. Night classes are taught after 4 p.m. This is a sample course list-ing with explanations of what everything means:

DRAM-1121 .100 THEATER PRACTICUM 2:25PM 3:40PM T R AD 160 PEEVYDRAM 1121 .100 (department/course number/section number),

THEATER PRACTICUM (course title), 2:25 PM 3:40 PM (time the class meets), AD 160 (location where class meets), T R (days the class meets, in this case, Tuesday and Thursday), PEEVY (name of instructor). In the course number, a 1 or 2 indicates freshman or sophomore course. The second number indicates credit hours - in this example, the 1 means one credit hour. For English 1301, the 3 indicates three credit hours. A credit hour is a unit of measure representing an hour (50 minutes) or instruc-tion over a 15-week period in a semester system. In the section number, the 1 of the .100, indicates location or type of class; here it means Paris. The suffix - the 00 of the .100, indicates the type of course - for instance, whether it is a face-to-face course, hybrid, ITV, 8-week flex, mini-term, or dual credit.

Important Student Information & Class Listings

Fall Schedule 2020, Page 4

FIND FLEXIBILITY WITH 8-WEEK COURSESFLEX COURSES: These are online courses that last eight weeks, beginning on either August 24 or October 19, 2020. See what classes are offered after the internet class section inside. Check the online class schedule at www.parisjc.edu for up-to-date information on courses being offered in these categories.

New Student Requirements:Orientation and Learning Framework

Are you a new PJC student starting classes this semester? All new students must attend orientation, which is available on-

line and face-to-face. Orientation class listings are at the begin-ning of each location class list. Contact the location you plan to attend to sign up for orientation. This must be completed prior to enrolling for fall semester classes.

You are also required to take Learning Framework - EDUC 1300 or PSYC 1300. This 8-week course must be taken within the first twelve hours enrolled at PJC for students in an academic program. See the classes in the 8-week flex course section, by location, for the times offered. The course covers learning styles, interest in-ventories, career exploration, note taking, test taking, study skills, time management, stress management, financial management and other life management skills for the student entering college. Call 903-782-0425 for more information.

HAD YOUR MENINGITIS SHOT?All incoming freshmen, transfer students and returning students not

continuously enrolled beginning with the fall 2011 semester need to show proof of immunization against bacterial meningitis. The law does not apply to students age 22 and over or those only in online classes that don’t require proctored testing at PJC. The meningitis vaccination or booster must have been administered within the last five years and before the start of the semester. Contact the Admissions Office for more information.

PJC Offers New Non-Course Based Options to StudentsStudents who do not pass the TSI Assessment (establishing if they

have the skills necessary to pass a college level course) now have a new option from PJC. In the past students who did not achieve the required score had to take at least one semester-long developmen-tal education course whose hours did not count towards a degree or certificate.

Now PJC is offering a Non-Course Based Option (NCBO) to help students who test within one to three points of the threshold score. NCBOs offer internet-based instruction that students may take at their own pace as they complete a college-level course. Course con-tent is limited and specific to meet students’ needs and help accom-plish their goals. Content and course length is determined by the placement testing.

If the student is one point from the threshold score, they may enroll in the college-level course plus a four-hour NCBO. This is available in math and integrated reading and writing.

Students who score two to three points below the threshold may also enroll in a college-level course plus a 16 contact hour NCBO. Advisors will place students in the appropriate option.

Those students who score more than three points over the threshold must still take the assigned developmental education course.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Paris Junior College class schedule contin-ues to be updated after printing, even during registration and up to the first day of classes. Check www.parisjc.edu/schedule for chang-es or added or deleted courses.

Building a schedule can be confusing, so below is a form to help your classes fit your timeframe. If there is only one section of a course you want offered, schedule that course first and plan the rest of your schedule around it. Next, add the course with the next fewest number of selections. Do you know your TSI status — are you required to take developmental courses? If so, make certain your schedule includes those required courses. If you have questions, see an advisor. Make sure the classes you have chosen do not have time conflicts. You cannot register for classes that overlap in time. Remember, too, that some classes have labs.

TSI AssessmentThe Texas Success Initiative (TSI), mandated by state law, requires

students whose TAKS/STAAR/SAT/ACT scores do not achieve exempt status, or who are not otherwise exempt, to be assessed in reading, writ-ing and math skills prior to enrolling in any college-level coursework. The state approved test administered at Paris Junior College is the TSI Assessment.

The testing schedule is listed below. The TSI Assessment is an adaptive computer placement test that requires a Pre-Assessment Activity prior to testing. The Pre-Assessment Activity is accessed online by going to www.parisjc.edu, then click on A-Z Links, then select TSI Assessment.

The fee for the TSI Assessment is $25 for the initial test, and $15 to retest. The test is untimed, and depending on how many sections of the test a student is required to take, the TSI Assessment may take between three and five hours.

Call to Register

Students enrolling at the Paris campus should call 903-782-0446 or go to the Testing Center located in the Alford Center to reserve a seat for the TSI Assessment. Students enrolling at the Greenville campus should call 903-454-9333, and students enrolling at the Sulphur Springs cam-pus should call 903-885-1232 to reserve a seat for the TSI Assessment. For TSI Assessment testing, prior registration is not required during the regular and late registration period.

ID/Calculator

You must take acceptable forms of photographic identification to the test, such as a valid driver’s license, state ID card, passport, school ID, etc. The TSI Assessment has a computer-based calculator and you may not bring one to the test.

TSI Assessment Testing Dates

The cost of the TSI Assessment is $25. Retests are $15 per session. On test date, applicants should bring a photo ID and a testing ticket given to them by the Admissions or Advising & Counseling offices after completing the Pre-Assessment Activity.

Paris campus applicants register in the Testing Center, located in the Alford Center, then pay at the Business Office located in the Administration Building.

Greenville and Sulphur Springs applicants should contact the appropri-ate Center to make reservations. Pre-registration is not required during the regular and late registration period.

Following is the TSI Assessment testing schedule at all campuses:

Get Emergency Alerts!Don’t Miss Campus Closings

In the event of an emergency or severe weather, you will receive an emergency alert sent by text message or email. This is a free service provided by PJC, though normal message fees may apply. To receive text messages to your cell phone, your cell phone must have text messaging capabilities. Notifications are dependent upon external providers and PJC cannot guarantee noti-fications will be received by the intended recipient. To add your email address or a different cell phone number, go to www.parisjc.edu, select the “Current Students” link, look under “Life on Campus” and select the “Dragon Emergency Alert System Signup” link. Follow the instructions.

You Have DragonMailAll PJC students have a dedicated email address that is the primary method

of contact between students and various PJC administrative offices. All PJC students are encouraged to log into their new email account as soon as possible to activate it. Once your DragonMail account is activated, you can forward it to another email account by following the Gmail instructions. A student email address is in the form of: [email protected]. Make sure the @dragons.parisjc.edu is included in the Username. Paris Junior College will create the email account for the student. The student DOES NOT need to create an account. If you already have a Gmail account that opens, be sure to click on “Sign in with a different account,” and then use your DragonMail username and password.

There are two sets of instructions for creating the proper username, depending on whether your PJC Student ID number is six or nine digits long. To learn more, go to www.parisjc.edu. Select “Current Students,” then “DragonMail.” DragonMail is hosted by Google Mail. Students will be given directions to access their email when they register. If you require assistance, contact the Help Desk at 903-782-0496, [email protected].
