SEASON OF CREATIONThe Season of Creation begins on Wednesday 1st September. Pope Francis has invited the faithful to participate in this annual season “to renew their faith in the God of creation and join in prayer and work for the care of our common home.” As a Diocese we will mark the opening of the Season of Creation with a service On Wednesday 1st September in St Peter’s Cathedral at 7pm. The event is being coordinated by a newly established Laudato Si group in the Diocese and the homilist will be Fr Timothy Bartlett. Join us online www.churchservices.tv/stpeterscathedral We are all encouraged in this season to read Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ On Care of our Common Home. In this week we pray for greater attention to the Cry of the Earth and the Cry of the Poor and that we may commit ourselves to living according to the vision and values of Laudato Si’.

The second collection this week is for theGeneral Maintenance Fund
Starting post primary school can be a very exciting time for some but it can also be an anxious time for others. We recognise that it can also be a very worrying time for parents too as they help their children make the transition to ‘big’ school.As a parish family we would like to mark this important milestone by inviting all new year 8’s and their families, to come and join us in St John’s Church this Tuesday evening at 6pm for a very special ceremony. During the 6pm Mass we will have the Blessing of School Bags and invoke God’s blessing and protection on the children. It might also be an opportunity to see some familiar faces from St Kevin’s PS!Year 8’s are welcome to come in their new school uniforms. We look forward to seeing everyone. Please spread the word and remember to bring your school bag!
