Manada Conservancy
An evening with Doug Tallamy and Rick Darke, co-authors of The Living Landscape: Designing for Beauty and Biodiversity
Presented by Manada Conservancy & the Appalachian Audubon Society
When: Thursday April 27th, 6pm to 10pm
Where: Lower Dauphin High School (201 South Hanover Street, Hummelstown)
This program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. The richness of life in any landscape is linked to the richness of its layers. Using chickadees and other wildlife as
guides we will explore how layers of native plants evolved with local wildlife. Join us as we learn to en-
hance our ability to see these layers and to create them in our own landscapes. Manada Conservancy is
privileged to present two of the nation’s leading authorities on the interplay of design, native plants and
wildlife.
Doug Tallamy is Professor and Chair of the Dept of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of
Delaware and author of the award winning book, “Bringing Nature Home”.
Rick Darke is a landscape design consultant, author, lecturer, and photographer based in Pennsylvania
who blends art, ecology and cultural geography in the creation and conservation of livable landscapes.

State of the Swatara Greenway When: Thursday, March 9th at 7:00pm When: The Perking Point (Located at 257 Hershey Rd, Hummelstown near Giant in the Meadows Marketplace shopping center, Route 39)
When Manada Conservancy first started, in 1997, our primary focus was the Swatara Greenway. In the last 20 years, we’ve worked hard to increase awareness and protection of this beautiful and important stream corridor—through outright acquisition, partnerships and voluntary landowner stewardship. In 2008 we presented a panel discussion about the Greenway and how better to protect it. A lot has changed since then! March 9th, please join us for our next panel presentation of the State of the Greenway. It will include mapping of current status, a discussion of WHY the Greenway is so important, a case study of good stewardship, and our plans for the future, through partnerships, continued stewardship, education and conservation.
Moderator: Manada President Rich Zaino Panel Speakers: Lori K. Yeich ~ Recreation and Conservation Manager, PA Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources, Central PA Regional Office, Nate McKelvie (tentative) ~ Instructional Advisor, Environmental Center, Agriculture and Environmental Education, Milton Hershey School, Jennifer Hine ~ Manada Conservancy Executive Director and Swatara Greenway Coordinator This program is free and open to the public.
