Saint Anne School and Parish are grateful for the talent of Mr. Fabian Debora who created this beautiful mural of Our Lady of Guadalupe. On March 14th, at 2:00 pm, the Little Free Library will be on display in front of this fabulous mural of Our Lady. A small ceremony will take place with our band playing to thank the different orders of Sisters who have served at Saint Anne School over the years. On March 19th, after the 8:30 am Mass, celebrated by Bishop Kevin Vann, the mural will be blessed and roses will be presented to our Lady.

Fast and Abstinence During Lent Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat and binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. www.usccb.org From Bishop Vann’s office: Dispensation and the Lenten Fast The Lenten season calls all the faithful Catholics to remember in heart and mind the redemptive self-sacrifice of Jesus for the life of the world. From the earliest days of our faith. Christians have been called to special penance and sacrifice during not only the 40 days of Lent but especially on the significant days of the Lenten liturgical season, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday as well as all the Fridays of Lent. In light of this, all Catholics in the United States are encouraged to enter into sacrificial penance during these days and specifically to refrain from the eating of meat on all the Fridays of Lent, with the added penance of holy fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. While this discipline of penance and fasting is serious, it no longer binds one under the pain of grave sin. For a sufficiently good reason. (e.g., a special family celebration, an ethic festival, Lunar New Year, etc.) one may dispense oneself from this serious obligation and may legitimately substitute another day of the week to fulfill this penance. It is for this reason, that there is no need for a specific “dispensation” from the Bishop, lifting the penance for these days.
