Thank you for being apart of our #1thing4oakleaf campaign!
Did you that 1 in 4 of us in the UK will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of
a year? It is likely that mental health has touched your life in some way or another.
We believe that mental illness should not be a barrier to living a fulfi lling and productive life. As a social
enterprise, we are able to provide training and support in an environment where our clients thrive,
many moving on to meaningful employment or further education.
By taking part in our #1thing4oakleaf campaign, you will make an enormous difference to the lives of our
clients, and we will be 1 step closer in reach our goal of delivering 1,000 more training sessions in 2016.
Are you ready to do 1 thing?
Follow the steps in this Fundraising Kit to get started and let’s work together to
make your 1 thing count!

you’ve got an idea of your own, that works too! If you’re struggling, check out our
A-Z list of activities on page 9 that you and your team can choose from!
Your 1 thing can be a personal challenge, a corporate activity, community
event, anything you like, there are no limitations! All we ask is that you comply
with fundraising regulations and safe practice (see page 7 for more details).
Once you’ve decided what 1 thing you’re going to do, follow step #2 and set up
your fundraising page!
Oakleaf has guaranteed places for, is involved with, or is organising the following events. If you wish to sign up to any of these for your 1 thing, please let us know and we can help register you and
your team.

#3 Tools and Tips - making the most of your fundraisingConsider these fundraising tools to help collect further sponsorship money and
tips to make your support and donations go even further!
5 Online Sponsorship: now that you’ve set up your fundraising page on Virgin
Money Giving, don’t forget to tell people about it and share it on social media!
The page is an easy and simple way to share your activity and collect sponsorship
money. Virgin Money Giving also reclaim Gift Aid on eligible donations on your
behalf. Personalise the page with photos, videos and your Twitter feed and share
why you have chosen to support Oakleaf with #1thing4oakleaf!
5 Offl ine Sponsorship: it’s good to remember that not everyone likes to donate
online. Find a Sponsorship Form on page 13 that you can print off and use to collect
any offl ine donations. You can add any offl ine donations to your fundraising total
on your page as well by logging into your account and editing your page. This
way you can keep track of all of your hard efforts all in one place and set targets
easily!
We want to
see photos of
your amazing
#1thing4oakleaf
activities!
Remember to
take snaps and
videos and
share them to
your campaign
page & with us!
6
5 For any offl ine donations, ensure your sponsors Gift Aid their
donation if they are able to. This means we can claim back 25p for every £1 given,
at no extra cost to the individual, which makes their donation and your support
go even further! Use the Gift Aid column on the Sponsorship Form on page 13
5 Employer Matched-Funding: Many companies have a matched-funding
scheme where they will match the amount you raise. Find out if your employer
does this, and you could double your fundraising total!
5 Share, share, and share again: Social media is the way forwards with letting
people know what you’re up to and promoting your fundraising activity. Remember
to spread the word by sharing your page link to encourage sponsorship and get
people talking about #1thing4oakleaf and better mental health!
5 Keep us in the loop: let us know how your fundraising is going so we can help
promote your activities and page to our online communities as well!
5 Hashtag it: if you’re on social media don’t forget to use the campaign hashtag
#1thing4oakleaf and let’s get it trending!

#4 Staying safe and best practice To ensure your fundraising goes as smoothly as possible, with no unexpected
surprises along the way, here is a checklist of things to think about when organising
your activity!
5 Promotional Material: let us know if you would like to use our logos on any
promotional materials you are creating. We can send you all you need along
with our handy Branding Guidelines! Make sure to also use our registered charity
number 1064524 and state on the materials that you are fundraising ‘in aid of
Oakleaf’
5 Collections: if you are hosting an activity in a public area, you will need
permission from the local council to collect donations. In some cases you may
need a licence. Please contact your local council to fi nd out what the rules are
as it may differ between regions. If you would like to collect on a private property
8
5 First Aid: you might need fi rst aid provisions if you hosting your own activities.
Some activities require fi rst aid cover and some don’t - it usually depends on the
number of people involved. Ask your local council or speak to us if you are unsure.
It’s a good idea to do a risk assessment when planning your activity; this will help
you plan ahead and think of any potential hazards or diffi culties
5 Food Hygiene: If you’re holding a lunch or selling food for your activity, you’ll
need to make sure that the vendor/caterer is licensed. If you’re making food
yourself, make sure the public know what ingredients were used. Writing a card
with a list of the ingredients for each item is a good way of doing this. For information
about food hygiene regulations, please visit www.food.gov.uk
5 Licensing: you may need to obtain a licence for some activities; this can be
gained from your local council for a small fee. You will need one if you are selling
alcohol (even if the venue is licensed you will need permission for your activity);
you are planning to serve food after 11pm; or your activity takes place in an
unlicensed venue and involves live music and/or alcohol
If you have
any questions
or concerns,
we are here to
help with, so
just get in touch
and ask away!
