Letter from the Primary Principal

s we enter the last week of term we can take a moment to reflect on the learning in Term

1. For me the highlight has to be the 3-Way Confer-

ences, which have gone from strength to strength over the last five years. I am always amazed how well our children are able to articulate their learning by sharing their successes but also their next steps. This is certainly matching our school development plan where our focus is to develop assessment capa-ble learners.

The focus on the digital citizen and what is a digital learner has been a focus for our Primary parents led expertly by Brian Taylor. There is more to do within this area, so please look out for further workshops within Primary and Secondary.

As we enter into the last week, we have some won-derful Christmas events that we would like you to be part of:

16th December - Foundation Stage Singalong, 8.00am Foundation Stage area

16th December - Christmas Concert starting in the Theatre at 6.00pm

18th December - Whole School Christmas Assem-bly, 8.00am. Students are already asking how Santa will arrive this year. I wonder if any of them will get it right?

School closes on the 18th December and will reo-pen on Monday 11th January.

We wish you an enjoyable and safe holiday wher-ever you and the family may be.

Clare Sharp Primary Principal

ust 29 more amazing volun-teers are now needed to

achieve our challenge of rowing for 24 hours non-stop in order to raise money for the Syrian Refugee Crisis. The event will take place from 7.55am on Thursday 17th Decem-ber until 7.55am on Friday 18th De-cember. Each volunteer is asked to row for 20 minutes and raise 300 baht. Please do get involved and help make a real difference to peo-

ple's lives - staff, parents and stu-dents are welcome, sign up today! Slots are available from 8.00am un-til 3.10pm.

Anyone who has signed up will need to hand in their 300baht spon-sorship/donation next week (Parents can hand it over when they arrive for their slot). Parents can sign up by emailing Dr Polly Sinnett-Jones on [email protected].

group of eight Year 12 stu-dents are making an extra

push to help those in need over the Christmas season. The stu-dents, motivated by what they had learnt about the plight of ref-ugees, considered their fortunate lives and wanted to directly help communities in need, specifically inspired with the refugee crisis.

The Christmas Food Donation Project involves all tutor groups in Senior Studies. Each tutor group either donates a certain amount of money and/or they make up a food box to support one family for a few weeks. The food boxes con-tain essential items such as rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar and wash-ing detergent. These items are supplemented with canned goods and other non-perishable items. Some tutor groups add things like toothbrushes and toothpaste or toys and stationery for the chil-dren.

The collection has already been going for the past three weeks and the response from the tutor groups has been really good.

There are about 100 boxes ready, but more donations next week are really welcome. The donations will go to two communities in the Phra Athit area of Bangkok; one is a slum community and the other is a community of asylum seekers who are waiting for their papers to be processed.

The donations will be delivered to the two communities on Thurs-

day 17th December. Kudos goes to all the students involved, who never wavered in their enthusi-asm and energy to make this Christmas season a little easier for those less fortunate. A big thank you as well to all those who have donated.

If you have items you would like to donate, please contact me via email: [email protected].

s part of a CAS (Community, Activity, Ser-

vice) Project that aims to raise awareness on AIDS and support financially limited families, ‘Hand2Heart’ decided to cele-brate World Aids Day at Bangkok Patana School on the November 30th (Originally scheduled for De-cember 1st but rescheduled due to clashing events). Over the course of planning this event, we were divided into four depart-ments – Art/Design, Event Man-agement, Public Relations and Make N’ Bake. This division of la-

bour became very useful as each team could focus on a certain as-pect of this upcoming event. In the end however, all four teams enthusiastically collaborated their ideas and put their hands together to make this event special.

On the day of the event, after gathering all the essential posters, baked goods and stalls, we all huddled by the Lounge at 12.15 with a large ‘Hand To Heart’ poster draped in front of the desk. Alongside, we had a tray of delicious brownies and specialised heart-shaped cookies for

those students who placed a col-ourful hand print inside the large reproduction of our heart-shaped logo. These students also partici-pated in an interactive question and answer session based on HIV and AIDS. Additionally, we stamped all the kind-hearted stu-dents participating in the interac-tive questionnaire with our cus-tomised logo. As the event went on, members of Hand2Heart switched rounds within 15

minutes and each took different roles such as stamping, stall moni-toring, photography and manag-ing the hand art to make sure it didn’t get too messy! Although this event didn’t get onto the Dai-ly Notices ahead of time, we still managed to give out all our cook-ies and brownies and received a lot of hands on our paper heart shaped logo.

It was absolutely wonderful to watch our members from

Hand2Heart actively contribute and dedi-cate themselves thoughtfully towards this event, as they have done for the past four months, when we started up with absolutely noth-ing. Together we are making a difference and working towards a happier, healthier and HIV-free future!

Louise Truslow A Retrospective

Opening Reception January 14, 2016. 7-9 pm. January 14-31, 2016 Marking 20 years since she started painting, the Neilson Hays presents a Retrospective of British artist Louise Truslow; featuring works from many of her exhibitions of the past two decades and encompassing all of the media she now works in. The exhibition opens with a Reception on Thursday, January 14th from 7-9 pm. and continues until the end of the month. Over the years Louise has become well known for her evoca-tive oils and watercolours - particularly those depicting monks, umbrellas and South East Asian scenes. More recently she has started working in glass and to a less-er extent, bronze. Her glass is kiln-formed and all her work is created using recycled crystalline glass, which she sources from a local manufacturer. Some of the works in this exhibition are from the artist's pri-vate collection and the latest paintings were exhibited at the Royal Overseas League in London during 2015. Louise came to Thailand in 1990 and has lived in Asia for over 30 years. Her background is in Performance Arts and although she has no formal training in painting or glassmak-ing, her work has been exhibited in several cities and is held in private and corporate collections around the world.
