Patent filing is on the rise in Brazil,

yet…

› Gap between the number of scientific articles published and the number of patent applications filed.

› Further work is needed to raise awareness about the patent system and to encourage individual inventors, researchers and companies to patent their inventions.

› There is also a gap between the number of patents filed with Brazilian origin vs patents granted.

• In 2015, Brazil was ranked #15 and #9 respectively for resident and non-resident applications.

• This is compared to #29 and #17 respectively for grants.

›Even in categories where Brazil is an innovation leader, Brazil filings are less than filings in other countries.

›Many Brazilian universities encourage and support the filing of patents, but an even greater emphasis can yield exponentially higher dividends.

Patent search challenge:Unlocking the hidden 80%

Patent data contains a wealth of information that can provide a competitive advantage

Industry TrendsLicensing OpportunitiesUnknown CompetitorsRisk of InfringementOpportunities for EnforcementPartnership OpportunitiesInvestment Strategies

Unfortunately, the value is buried deep within complex documents

Terms are used to describe and protect through obfuscationDocuments are often complex, containing repetitive informationDense, technical text is difficult to classify, and patent classifications lag behind new technologiesInformation scattered across over 100 million documents

From: Reactive Power Billing Under Nonsinusoidal Conditions for Low-Voltage Systems (bold inserted)

Cut and paste abbreviated abstract into IQ+:

… reactive power definitions for billing purposes in low-voltage installations with high harmonic distortion levels. First, the theoretical definitions of power under non-sinusoidal conditions and their outcomes are presented and two of them are chosen as the focus to determine which one is the most appropriate for billing: non-active power and fundamental reactive power. The regulatory framework of different countries is then analyzed and compared with the theoretical definitions. Subsequently, different reactive power measurement methods are analyzed and their outputs are again compared with the definitions… regulatory comparison of the pros and cons of each reactive power quantity. It is concluded that the surplus of reactive power in electricity grids should be controlled via fundamental reactive power (or displacement power factor), since it is independent of the harmonic distortion.

Market your licensable technologies

Make university IP discoverable to other institutions

›InnovationQ Plus is the only tool that allows you to upload technologies available

for out licensing for potential partners to discover.

›This is a free benefit to InnovationQ Plus subscribers and a great promotional tool

for your University.

›Published patent grants and applications as well as non patent technology descriptions

may be loaded and a summary, non-confidential portion of the document is used for

public display.

›When users search the InnovationQ Plus Licensable Technologies collection, the full text

of all documents is searched and if matches are found, the document’s public facing

information will be included in the results.
