Letter from the P-TECH Program Administrator

As our first year of P-TECH in Rochester comes to a close, I want to take this opportunity to thank our parents and families for their support and commitment to attendance and academics. A Note from the PTO

Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year,

the Edison Campus will be united. There will

be one principal, unified organizations, such

as the PTO, as well as combined fundraising

efforts. Although P-TECH will remain a separate

program in the school, we are pleased to join

forces with other parents and school staff

to build a strong and effective PTO for

the campus.

We are currently accepting volunteers for

the upcoming school year and would like

to encourage our P-TECH parents to participate in this important organization.

If you would like to be part of the 2015-2016 PTO, please contact Mary Lovejoy

at [email protected].

Summer School

• Rochester City School District (RCSD)

Summer School runs from July 7

to August 14.

• Any student who fails a class must enroll

in RCSD Summer School.

• In order to receive credit for the failed

class, students must attend summer

school every day and pass the course.

Courses not passed in summer school

will not earn credit. If a Regents Exam is

needed to pass the course, the student

must also pass the exam to earn credit.

Ninth Grade Summer Enrichment

Summer Enrichment is for students

entering P-TECH from eighth grade. It is

a skill-building program that focuses on

math and English. We will also be using

Arduino boards, so students can learn

some basic coding skills.

Staff Advice

As the end of the year approaches, here’s

some advice from the P-TECH staff to

make the most of the rest of the year.

• Remember that in order to earn credits

and stay on track with P-TECH’s course/

sequence, you have to pass your

classes and Regents Exams! If you have

questions about credits, final exams, or

Regents Exams, contact Ms. Cattat.

• See your teachers for extra help – if your

teacher is not available, there are others

who are willing to help!

• Start studying for exams NOW – it’s

never too early.

• Use online tools to help yourself:

regentsprep.org, MyFoundationsLab, etc.

• Check with your science teacher to make

sure you have enough Lab Minutes to sit

for the Regents Exam!

• Keep the drama, drilling, and silliness

outside of school so you can be

successful in school!

Meet Harris Corporation

Harris Corporation is a leading

provider of advanced communications

and information systems for

government and commercial markets.

The company has approximately

$8 billion in annual revenue and

about 23,000 employees supporting

customers in more than 125 countries.

Locally, the Harris Corporation has provided P-TECH with 12 mentors for our students

and one very special professional mentor, Samantha Eaton. After meeting her mentee,

Samantha contacted P-TECH with a desire to start a program specifically for young

women. She then organized a presentation in which female professionals from Harris

shared information and fielded questions about careers in Information Technology and

Engineering with our 40 female P-TECH students.

A big thank you to Harris Corporation for providing time for these professionals to speak

with our young ladies!
